Anyone added a bluetooth handsfree system to a factory fit sat nav radio system? If so what sort and which connector did you plug it into?

Richard gal replied to ALARM MAN's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
I fitted a changer in my car (factory fit sat nav and no changer), the cable already there was no good, it needed a new cable to the head unit, i will try to get the part numbers. -
Just get a small grinder and taper off the end you hit until the nut will "start".

Egr Valve Cleaning
Richard gal replied to psolak's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
And once you get it clean disconnect it, to stop it getting gunged up again, bung the pipe and cap the operating device, mine has done 5,000 miles like this and uses a little less fuel and has a little more power. -

OIL TYPE USED - TDI ONLY
Richard gal replied to jkspoff's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I wonder now where Ford stand legally if you have an engine failure at 3+ years and full Ford service history? Surely you can say the maker of the engine insists on this oil and you have used this every time, which led to premature wear, and wont there be lots of cars at this stage now? -
OIL TYPE USED - TDI ONLY
Richard gal replied to jkspoff's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Well talking to the next Ford dealer nearest to me, it has been Ford policy to use Formula E in these engines since it was available. So how many galaxy engines have ground to pieces?, he said they dont have problems, (better than actual Ford engines) its always an electrical related problem when they have an engine problem -
OIL TYPE USED - TDI ONLY
Richard gal replied to jkspoff's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Out of concern for my engine i rang another main ford Dealer today. He has been in Ford main dealer workshop foreman for his whole working life (he tells me!), anyway then says they also ONLY put Formula E in eveything (except the odd old cosworth), and Ford recomend this, so both dealers are consistant. I pointed out a sharan would get different (synthetic) oil at a VW dealership, and would be recommended, he agreed, it would. He said this is more to do with other vw engines (polo and golf and some audi) that have real problems without it, and it is more of a blanket recommendation to keep it simple. He then said he honestly knew of no Galaxy PD engines ever having a problem attributable to the wrong oil, (warranty or not) and pointed out they would often get alot worse than Formula E in backstreet garages. So there you have it... He did say when the Escort cvh came out castrol GTX (liquid engineeering) was launched, and caused the biggest load of problems ever because people believed it was better than the Ford recommended oil. -

My Ford Garage (Grimsby) in both parts and workshop, insist they only fit/supply Formula E 5w30 oil in Diesel galaxys, and everything else i believe. Is this correct or not? they insist its Ford recomendation. -
New Turbo .....egr Valve
Richard gal replied to muppetofdoom's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I take on board your points but fuel cannot be burnt properly with exhaust fumes, clean air is better, as in engines pre EGR. I hate this burning extra fuel to clean up emissions idea, agricultural tractors fuel economy has been decimated by this law. The emissions may be cleaner but the CO2 output is higher. -

If possible (another car) take the pads with you and measure the discs to a motor factors, mine took alot of investigation from the lists they had of different variants. -
New Turbo .....egr Valve
Richard gal replied to muppetofdoom's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Mine is running without the egr working though still fitted,IE capped off and pipe blocked, it seems to be a little more economical on fuel (got to 500 miles before warning light for the first time a few weeks ago), it feels it may have more power but cant be certain on this. I did this after a Turbo replacement due to exhaust vane coming off, and after being advised to replace the EGR at the same time i had a look and it was 50% clogged! It will also pass the MOT easier, as they dont test NO2 which is what a EGR reduces -

From the top of the screen where glass meets rubber, to the wiping edge of the top (drivers) wiper its 96cm
-
I have needed 2 reverse switches due to internal corrosion, but you can use the switch to activate if that is suspect.
-
My well lubed ones wipe right to the edge of the vertical part of the screen, if not a little beyond as a guide, but when parked are dead horiziontal with about 20mm between them, and you cannot see the lower one from the drivers seat.
-
Its not too bad a job, just basic tools, mark where the wiper blades are on the glass in Park position first. Then its wiper arms off and the bulkhead panel thing. Your biggest problem will be getting the spndles out, they may come ok or need penetrating oil, but be careful and take your time not to damage threads etc.

Exhaust Blowing Around Turbo
Richard gal replied to Scorpiorefugee's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
No experience of the straight though pipe but has to be better than a bloked off system that still has a valve stem restricting air flow a little like mine. I didnt fit one as i am a cheap skate, and wanted to be able to reinstate it if there was a problem, but as i said up to now its fine. -

My 54 started leaking fuel from the pump (end of the Cyl head), the seal had disintegrated, but i could smell it, are you certain its not leaking, as the under tray may hold it until driving?

Exhaust Blowing Around Turbo

May be worth taking the EGR valve body off and cleaning it out, my thinking is that it will react to the throttle off quickest, or even (like mine is now permanently) disconnect and block the vaccum pipes to it and give it a try before you do anything else. -
Is it the heated type?

Turbo (well Noe An Ex-turbo
Richard gal replied to muppetofdoom's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Garrat and borg warner do not sell spares, i am told, so refurbs are done with copy parts, yes they have a warranty but do you want to do it again in 3 weeks time?. I got my new one from Midland Turbos overnight, and a price of about 40% of a dealer supplied turbo. Depending on model/engine they are about -
Can I Remove The Middle Seat In 2nd Row?
Richard gal replied to spheroids's topic in MKIII Technical section
In that case, slacken off all the bolts, and see if the retaining nuts/plates are staying solid, if so you should be OK, maybe a good idea to put the bolts back in after the seat is out.
