  1. Some 4x4s can pull more than their own weight, my 2 tonne SWB trooper can pull over 3 tonnes, its the limit you need for tachograph that soon kicks in you have to worry about then!
  2. I had a mondeo one fitted, (new replacement), made by pilkington, after 2 years half the elements in random places had given up, they dont make them like original equipment it seems.
  3. Eh?, mine had a black tray held in by four 6mm ish bolts, underneath there was a silver alloy casting with 2 big bolts at each side and a nut in the middle holding the engine, remember it well, due to grinding noise when accelerating on a left hand turn, it was this casting that hadnt been fully tightened after accident repair and moving making filings.
  4. If the cvable is loose etc, would this makeit feel soggy !!? also do you think the gear box is ok ?? Cheers Gary Yes as it will all become loose and gearlinkages need fine tuning to work spot on, if it is so then the gearbox is still ok. You may have to take off battery and tray to really see whats going on, of course it may also be an issue at the gear stick end, but less likely.
  5. Would vag com tell you which one it is? I suggest you disconnect the wires and test for open circuit on each glow plug, ie power should flow through it to earth.
  6. Gear linkage/cables loose at the gearbox top?... look under battery tray.
  7. Davec, do us all a favour and go and hitch your caravan and weigh the outfit at a public weighbridge and report back! Do bother with passengers/luggage, it can be worked out after.
  8. Its the total load of the train that matters for the 4000 figure, will you be putting over half a tonne of people, clutter in the car?
  9. Pull the small (1cm) rubber pipe off the EGR and block both the pipe and actuator, this will eliminate this issue, dont worry about it, mine run 8 months in this configoration to save fuel and possibly increase power after finding kits to remove the whole system were available!. (long story but it was found choked after turbo failure... which came first???) It will pass the MOT with flying colours also, mine had half the emissions of the first 2 MOT's
  10. The original question.... "A long shot but if i buy a tdi 130 bhp what would be the maximum i could pull on a braked trailer? " The answer is still 2000kg Practicalities alter the answer according to circumstance, but if you have a 1999kg gross boat trailer, and you are taking it to the boat yard on your own with no other items in the car, you are legal according to the car plate.
  11. When you take the outfit on a weighbridge it will be the gross train that matters first, so if the car is empty of extra load then the trailer gross can be more or less 2000kg, providing the trailer is plated to that weight. If you take everything out the caravan and compress it into the boot (up to the car max gross) then your towing limit will drop. But the car engine, brakes and body are built to tow a 2000kg braked trailer
  12. So how does it know a trailer light is working if a bypass system is fitted? (as it should be)
  13. Alko brakes do take alot of power, and i think its suggested they have a seperate supply to the fridge etc.
  14. But what was you running in the caravan ? Radiotwo Charging battery and running fridge while engine running, it shut off automatically when the engine stopped, ( 2007 Lunar)
  15. I used the socket power supply for 3 years on a newish caravan without issue.
  16. Presumably, you meant "can't". Well, here goes for starters: 1) Rear seats far better. 2) Load area much better with seats removed. 3) Car actually bigger on the inside and considerably smaller on the outside. 4) With the Eberspacher working (and mine, like most, always has - 8 years old and 120,000 miles), heating much quicker to warm up. 5) Better fuel economy. 6) Spare wheel. 7) Rear suspension sags much less when fully loaded. 8) Metal tailgate can be used for carrying bikes. You also have to bear in mind that you're comparing new with old - any perceived advantages of the newer car have to be offset against the much higher running costs of a new car. Rear seats are not better, at 6' 1" I had to crouch, suprisingly in an Smax i dont... it was the clincher over a new Galaxy I take your point on the load area, but lifting Mk2 seats in and out was such pain 1 never went in it until sold.. they are Heavy ! Seems just as big on the inside, OK in the middle of 2 child seats anyway. My aux heated was very tempremental and was pleased when it stopped trying. Fuel economy is the same 2.0tdci = 130ps 1.9 (on 2 tankfulls measurment), and lower
  17. The Smax and the Galaxy Mk3 are the same car ? Unless you are referring to the Smax and the MK1 & 2 galaxys... In which case yes the Smax is very nice...however the olg Gals have reliable brakes. Think Toyota....think ABS....Think Smax Yes refering to old VW galaxys. Why do you say smax brakes and toyota brakes are assosiated?... never had an issue with abs in any car. apart from a MK1 mondeo always coming out of the MOT bay with it on, and going off after a few miles!
  18. I take your point but what about wiper spindle seizures? all car have wipers, only shalaxies need a relube every 4 years, I have always had fords and the galaxy has been the only car with so many issues and stopped on the side of the road. It has been fords worst car for reliability... as they didnt make it presumably.
  19. Big mistake!, I have changed to a Smax and its great!... can find anything thats not as good as a Galaxy yet.
  20. You need to set phone to ALLOW paired connections, and the radio can only take 6 paired phones in its memory, delete previous owners?
  21. Finally given up the battle of keeping a galaxy going, bought it at 27K miles and sold at 60K miles, in between; 1 turbo 2 reverse light switches 2 regasses driveshaft gaiters frt suspension mounts drop links fuel pump seal alternator pulley Maf sensor 2 door switches spare wheel cable system rebuild wiper linkage relube headlight levelers sort of repaired Aux heater played up and thankfully gave up trying! other normal costs; cambelt 4 tyres Pads fr+rear rear exhaust battery oil/filters Now got a 2.0tdci Smax, and its fantastic, nothing not as good as the galaxy yet... would like a spare wheel though... looking for a mondeo spacesaver
  22. Smax, no spare unfortunatly, but they are 9" ish longer, and back seats have more headroom would you believe!... and above all drive most unlike a MPV
  23. Remove air filter assembly first, but why do they need bleeding?
