  10. well not in a galaxy :( ;) :D
  11. Better safe than sorry I'd say. If you're not bothered about your own back then at least think about covering that of others that can be held accountable for your actions on this forum. I'm not personally against giving codes out but agree that it shouldn't be done in an open forum. Good to help others in need though, so maybe the AUP should be updated to reflect Glen's rules? agreed - the AUP needs updating - Glens only real public comment on this was not really descisive see here although I do recall some discussion in live chat, I think that as a moderator has ruled that this is not allowed then we should respect this (I'm sure glen would support this) - interesting to find VR6! on the side of te establishment :(
  12. just to confirm that you didn't have any faults cleared - I presume that it would have been the glowplug open circuit dtc if it was disconnected
  13. IIRC it only gives the warning as it changes to 4C if the temperature is below 4C when you get in the car I don't think it gives a warning - the only time we have more than one warning is when the temperature fluctuates :(
  14. dont really want to give those who may be less than honest a reason to register and expect to get help for codes for kit they've recently acquired also some recent debate indicated that glen did not want this to happen
  15. dunno about a serch but the first item on the faq is the one doing aux heater And of course a Vag-com system to reset the fault codes and get it going afterwards. John only needed for certain fault codes though If its a mk2, then if the problem is reported as glowplug o/c, and you have the full complement (5 attempts) then you'll have to clear them to make it go. Not got experience of others. For anyone without Vag-com, I THINK they can be cleared with an ECU reset though (power down) can't they? certaibly on ours we DIDN'T need to clear the glowplug o/c dtc - worked straight after changing the plug  There is a temperature sensor in the heater - all my diagrams are at home though  - will post a pic tonight if nobody else has  Ahhh....bliss....nicely toasted tootsies! I can only think that the temp sensor - signal high message is not really a fault code, but indicative of normal operation?? Or perhaps just a spurious phantom error. In any case, I just had to go home (10 miles) to let in a cooker engineer, and the Gal was up to 90 degrees in about 2 minutes flat! Great job, John 2 - flame sensor 5 - temp sensor 6 - overheating sensor 12 - temp sensor 13 - overheating sensor
  16. who said anything about not helping - I was suggesting that you should be a bit less obvious in the case of radio codes
  17. crushed sills - crouch 5 meters away at each side of the car and look at the line of the sills - common to have a kink just behind front wheel or in front of back - jacking point not used not too serious but negotiating point (
  18. no, but in some cases praise should be heaped on those that have gone to the trouble of posting a pictorial epic on how to strip out a dash, stip out an AUX heater and replace a glow plug, these people work from the same info that other members have access to and which in some cases is still poor! and yet they take time out from a difficult job to take pictures and notes for the benefit of others :) in my opinion these guys deserve some form of recon-ism! so here's some flag waving for those guys http://www.smaxownersclub.co.uk/forum/images/smiles/uk.gif and a sign to say thanks http://www.freedomtrailriders.org/forums/style_emoticons/default/heresyoursign.gifhttp://www.freedomtrailriders.org/forums/style_emoticons/default/yourock.gif and for the cut n paste merchants http://www.freedomtrailriders.org/forums/style_emoticons/default/sign03.gif :) happy to give accolade but calling somebody lame for helping indicates how far your skills fall short of being able to teach anybody :D :) :D
  19. car/age/variant are you using a remote/key inside/ouside need some more details
  20. be quicker if you flicked the starter a few times :D :D  :D
  21. no personal offence taken - I have demonstrated my ability to 'do' and have worked in several 'professions' - as an engineering technician, designer, design draughtsman, heat and ventilaton fitter, 8/10 of a PhD (I'm not that keen in writing it up :D ) in chemical engineering all in my 30 years at work - I have settled in my present profession - teaching - for 2 reasons a) I don't get bored every 4/5 years :D it pays for the mortgage, if I could try something else and still provide for my family I may be tempted. I'm good at teaching apparently - as a profession it has changed since you(or I even) were at school and whilst there are still some who I have little respect for still in the profession I am impressed with many and know that the skills to do it are not in everybody - unfortunately everybody has been to school and thinks that qualifies them to comment/ pass judgement. You may value practical skills but to be able to fit/repair a lift someone has had to sell that kit, finance the factory that makes it etc From my point of view adding posts to a faq is just putting links to useful posts in one place - for example the bumper bits posted today - somebody needed to know how to - quickly so its useful to have a link quickly to some instructions. Some people need (or will only attempt) some instructions others will have a go a something and its useful to know any gotchas beforehand. Perhaps the term FAQ is not correct here but trying to collect the links to posts is useful for others, having read most of the posts made here since 2003 I can often remember that a post has been made but can't always find it, the search facility here does seem a bit hit or miss so its easier to have the links in one place. I don't think that inclusion in the faq is an accolade to the original poster :D ;)
