ahh definitely sounds more like a thermo switch/thermistor than a thermal fuse - wonder if you went to a vw parts place whether they would have a replacement - any chance of a picture/any writing on it? I yu could work out a spec perhaps could source an equivalent. Will have a look on a well known tech info disc for the circuit when I get home

Without seeing how its wired I couldn't tell, from my initial interpretation I got the impression that the 'component was in line with the heating element so assumed that it was a thermal cut out - permanent if the pad got damaged and too hot, in other words the resistance of the pad was such that it would run continually from the 12v supply - loosing all the energy as heat (at its raised temperature). Does it conect to the relay and so forms the temperature sensing part of a thermostat.????

could you have done that whilst sorting out the bulb last night ? Was flashing before I starting fiddling with the cluster. Has stopped now though since reseating the plugs? Oil level is fine now thankfully. I just wonder how they did this? Would I be stupid to think that they redid the oil change, draining it all out and filling with the correct amount, replacing the sump drainage plug again? Or would I be more realistic in thinking that they would have drained some out, stuck the same plug back in, checked the level and repeated this until they got it low enough?!? :( sucked some out through the dipstick tube if I were them :) diy vacuum oil extraction professional vacuum extraction

rather than that I would try an axial one at 71p each its hardly a massive outlay - try a few different temps with the squab disembled - make sure that it lies parallel with the element - wire it in place - :)

yes mk3 diesels are ford tdci

Was dubious - first auto but happy enough - wouldn't insist on another though - not so economical and I don't tow - folk who do seem quite happy with it (tiptronic - more choice rather than traditional auto ) cam belt is 40K on ours but I think that upgraded parts means that on a 05 it will be back to 60K engine is not a ford (not is the rest of the car ) engine is Vw 1.9 TDI pd 115 130 OR 150 flavours but I dont think you can get auto in 130 or 150

initially I'd hoped they were sleeping gas vents :( :)

:( not having had a mk1 can't be specific but I'd have the one you are looking at no problem :) exact timings of changes such as the chrome roof rails seem a bit variable :(

or something like this

sounds more like an older style thermal cut out/fuse - seen them in power brick type power supplies - wonder if you could replace with an axial moderm thermal fuse see examples from maplin here

unlucky :) :D :D :D

umm how easy does it restart - - possibly air in the fuel line causing starvation and damage/corrosion to them allowing air to be sucked in intermitteently

based on the last free database available - but not updated Well thats strange because I download updates usually once a week. :) I've done that but when I ran a check the cameras are not in the same place - this may have changed the crosschecking was exhaustive but done a while ago now I'm not sure if we are talking about the same place/site I am registered with poisync/poihandler (uses a different database) rather than poiedit which is the editting program-linkon this site takes you elsewhere). I know that when pocketgpsworld database changed to the pay model theywent to great lengths pursuing illegal copies of the updated database esp on ebay - they have a way of identifying te source of leaked/copied files which I guess is built into the minor digit positions of certain cameras - a guess since the discussions in the member fora obviously restricted how the information was unique. btw the autoupdate in poiedit does not use the pocketgpswoorld database (or couldn't up to a couple of months ago since I last checked) the autoupdate from pocketgpsworld hasn't worked since the pay database was implemented :) which is irritating)

maf probably u/s for a start whether damage done at the time or after :) whats it like on a hill ? fuse blowing should prevent wiring burning out - thats their job ! glowplug light often brought up by brake pedal switch malfunction - cheap self repair may be a start -
