  1. Already got an account ther....don't seem to be that many mio users there, and they don't talk much! there is a whole section on tmc on the web forum there, did you heck it out m8  yeah....I hecked it and checked it ;-) Looks like I might be well and truly stuffed.....don't look like it decodes properly in the uk :-(
  2. If you go to the "useful links" section at the top of the technical section, then to the Rosstech Wiki you get:- 18074/P1666 - Valve for Pump - Jet: Cylinder 1 (N240): Electrical Malfunction [edit]Possible Symptoms Irregular rpm [edit]Possible Causes Wiring and/or connections to/from the Valve for Pump Jet Valve for Pump Jet [edit]Possible Solutions Check wiring and Check / Clean all connections Replace the cable-tree to/from all the Valves for Pump Jet Replace Valve for Pump Jet (replace them all !) [edit]Special Notes For each Valve the ECU checks the Begin of Injection Period (BIP) via a voltage. That voltage is very small (less than 0.0001A). Each extra resistance in the cable is fatal. So, in case of any doubt, just replace all cables. Retrieved from "http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/18074/P1666" You can check the others there too. John
  3. Already got an account ther....don't seem to be that many mio users there, and they don't talk much!
  4. I think you are talking about the Traffic Master system. This is not traffic master, it uses (I believe) channel 20 and messages are received from radio stations. I used to ave an AA pyramid on the dash that used that....it was very good at telling you that you shoulda taken the last exit!
  5. Have just finished installing my Mio 269 in the centre box of the Gal. I also got a TMC receiver (spec'd for Mio 269+) on ebay. Now, mine is not a 269+, but I have flashed the firmware to Rev 21 and loaded up MioMap V2. I have split off the car ariel signal to feed the TMC receiver, and there is now a good signal showing if you click the TMC icon and scan through various radio channels. The question is, I can find no documentation as to what to expect to get from this. At the moment, the TMC icon occasionally flashes white but so far (ok, its only been hooked in for 4 hours) it still indicates a zero. Never having had such a thing, what can I expect from this? Is it all working and I just need to wait for an event....or what? There's a lot of confusion about what works in the UK and what does not. Having got this far, does it mean that mine is working but just has nothing to report at the mo?? Thanks for any input, John
  6. EEerrr sorry..... Is what a good one?
  7. hi what would a newer one do that this one will not? ....just out of ignorance :bigemo_harabe_net-196: First of all, have you reset these codes? If not, do so and then go for a drive and see how many of them just "disappear". Also, get Vag-com 409.1. Its free to download and try out, but 99 dollars (50 quid-ish) to register for the full functionality. John
  8. There are a couple of options, having just done it myself. 1) You can go to the local car radio shop and buy a DC/DC converter made for the job for about
  9. Don't expect the mk2 to be more reliable than the mk1. If you go to www.whatcar.com and check out the reliability figures, you'll see that the pre-2000 models score much better! (cf 114 for the ealy ones, 200 odd for later lower is better)!
  10. I described a mechanism whereby batteries could be designed to fail predictably. I certainly remember buying a battery with a 2 year guarantee some 10 years ago or so, and having it fail at 26 months. The battery supplied on my old Volvo lasted 6 years. The replacement only 3. The designers of such products do have an input into how long they last! I think generally people are more environmentally aware these days and designers have to be conscious of this and not make it too obvious. Generally speaking, products tend to become obsolescent these days due to customers' expectations changing and technology being superceded. Just wondering how well something like....say...a Sanden air-con compressor was tested prior to release and how they managed to come to the conclusion that an L10 failure of about 2 years would be acceptable to customers! They seem to have just about got away with it. If it was any worse I'm sure Ford would have had to do a recall!
  11. cheers will let you know how i get along ,spacecowboy And make sure you've got the right size clutch alignment tool! I spent hours trying to get a Volvo 440 box back on a couple of years ago. In the end, I went and bought a new alignment tool. It then popped straight back on in a couple of minutes! Sometimes, its a false economy to try and make do! Good luck, please take pics for the rest of us! Cheers, John
  12. based on the last free database available - but not updated Mio 269 is not directly supported by poiedit, so needs a file conversion and messing about. With POI-warner using POI-handler.com it is supported so is a fully automated sync. Just plug in load the app and push the button! If you charge via a USB cradle its so easy you can push the button everyday just to make sure!
  13. tried using them last year but the overlay info for cams was sure dodgy - actually had a traffic camera (gatso) marked which would have been visible from our landing window - guess what - no camera, never had been (road had only been open 2 years). Stuck to Pocketgpsworld camera database - seems quite good I know what you mean about the pubs......I tried a different route to work this morning, and the 3 pubs that were marked were all 100-200 yards out of position! All the local speedcams and red-light cams are spot on though. I haven't found any missing ones yet.
  14. Probably true. Reckon they hardly ever put all 6 screws back in! Looking at the service record, the worrying thing in the light of recent posts is that it hasn't had drive shafts replaced yet! Hmmm......how long have I got?? Knowing my luck it'll go mid-way to the alps in a blizzard!
  15. It's worth going back to take a look....it has caught on big time. There's loads of good overlays available, and also a validation system so you can tell which ones have been proven. I found it has some traffic cam info that is only a few weeks old!
  16. OK, here's an option that's not been mentioned yet, and I think gives the best value for money (as far as I can see anyway!). I got a Mio 269 2nd hand on ebay (cost
  17. Just thought I'd collate all the various bits of service paperwork that came with my Galaxy. See attached spreadsheet (zipped) if you're interested. Looks like the previous owner got off fairly lightly for nearly 100K miles! Other than tyres (1 tyre every 6400 miles on average!) and brakes it was just routine services and 3 engine undertrays! Now for a motor with this much ground clearance, how can it get through 3 engine trays??? John PS. Wonder how long he lived with the knackered compressor?? Must get round to that in the spring! 19. Can you check vag-com for faults?? Mine seems to take up to 5 minutes/3 miles or so.
  20. may find some more info here I had "14-00 adaptation limit exceeded" on mine once..... I cleared it down and it hasn't re-ocurred. Be interesting to know what it means though... I couldnt find anything sensible.
  21. Dunno.... I'm hoping someone else will know more about it!
  22. Right, got this little project back on the road now. I got another one (Mio 269) on ebay for
