  1. Personally, I prefer the look of the black ones! I f I had chrome ones I'd paint em! ;-)
  2. In the heater over the passenger side rear wheel arch! The pipes are mostly steel, with rubber connecting hoses (on my Tdi anyway). I can't imagine yours being different.
  3. Don't forget you've got another matrix at the back! Also a very long pipe run with several connectors (although granted, not the diversion through an aux heater!) As a last resort you could just sling in an can of radweld (ok, purists will condemn me for this!). I had a duff matrix on a 406 and it bailed me out for 2 years before I got around to fixing it.
  4. Could always consider an engine swap :D I clocked over 50 mpg on a 60 mile motorway trip the other week! (TDi 115) :D
  5. Paul...just ignore Bleeno here..hes the resident pet...feed him carrots and nuts and he'll be your friend... :D :D Just dont let him rub up against yer leg....i hear he moults. :D :( Welcome! Only been here a couple of months myself. It's a nut house really, but some of the nutters here know tons of stuff about Gals!
  6. Had allsorts too. Thinking about it, the last ford I had was about 1982. I remeber saying "never again" and I didn't either until this summer. The Gal is a great motor, and not really a Ford for the most part. I bought it partly because of the almost bombproof VW engine. Come to think of it, the only motors that I didn't say "never again" to were a BMW 318 and a Volvo which were both indestructable. Worst was a Peugeot which was plagued with electrical probles for the 6 years I had it. That really is a "NEVER AGAIN"
  7. ??? lots of us have the 1.9TDi (115)'s don't we?? Lookis interesting....but am not volunteering to be first. Especially with such comments as: "Backup of the ECU memory is not supported for some of the models listed." How much is a replacement ECU if you screw up?? Hmmm.....
  8. Hmm..I just checked the TIS. For our 6 speed TDi's, it spec's ford p/n's for 2 different greases for the outer and inner C/V's respectively. It gives a grease quantity for the tripode joint of 130 gms but doesn't say which grease to use! As far as re-greasing goes, I think I'd go as far as splitting the bottom knuckle, and then try to get enough slack to squirt in the grease with a 50cc syringe and long flexible tip. (if you microwave it for a few seconds to warm it up it flows easier!) One problem that's just come to mind (a few years back now, can't remember which car it was) was repacing a c/v and re-using the snap ring! Very bad idea! It popped out and permitted the spline to pull out causing damage. Since then, I'm always careful to fit a new one, and make doubly sure that its engaged!
  9. I was checking mine out last week with a freezer spray and it went down to -25.5! Hehe John
  10. Yes, quite an ommision! :) I was also a bit put of by straight-laced regimental bands playing latin jazz and also trying to play Birdland (Jazz-fusion piece, Weather Report, 1970's) Just didn't seem right to me, and as a jazz musician I can tell you that it didn't really come off either. Why is there always an urge to do something "different"??
  11. whotcha got up yer sleeves then??? ^_^
  12. I don't know which it is - I have after all got 100K plus on the clock - but its worth noting that with VR6's help I found at least 4 other incidences of this on the forum - so whatever it is it ain't rare!! As I said before - the fact that a dealer stocks the parts says it all - Dealers don't stock non moving parts they have to pay for them!! Its difficult to tell from the pictures, but my impression from them is that the parts are blackened and the grease dried out. I haven't checked in the TIS, but is there a spec given for the grease? or any instructions to re-pack? Those of us with high-milers (mines got 95K) might want to consider a prophylactic repack!
  13. Excellent link! And what a fantastic place for a sat-nav! Oh yes, I've just got to do it! Well I just got a Mio 269 GPS on ebay 2nd hand for

  15. bump No one going to flog me a knackered Sanden SD7V16 model 1245 then......sniff...sniff....wah!
  16. I will fit the new half shaft this morning so no doubt will find out if this is the definite problem. Thanks I'd see if you can get in with a torch (and mirror if necessary) and have really good look at the mating splines if you can!
  17. Hey, watch out...I've got Anagram Genius 2000 as well ;-) Hmmm...... Hairy Plate Eater = .................... Yes, I did that a couple of weeks back. That was where I found the
