  1. Hi Again I think you need to check when you have replied to a post, as you have now replied with NO text ! Can you please try again Radiotwo
  2. Hi rosemount I think you will have to give a bit more info! You say it goes flat every two weeks ! and that you do not do short trips !! but how many miles do you do and do you use it every day ? but as the other poster says you also need to do some voltage checks, first measure the voltage of the battery without the engine running, then start the car, and measure with it running at about 2000rpm, and then report back on here Radiotwo
  3. Why don't you try Witter ? Radiotwo
  4. Hi and welcome to the group What I would do is just get the garage to do the job, as it sounds to me as if they are trying to get out of it ! Radiotwo
  5. Remove Pollen filter ! radiotwo
  6. Hi And welcome to the site You say the battery has been checked ! what was done to check the battery ? and results?? and the timing belt has nothing to do with charging, but before you do anything with the alternator, check out all the wiring relating to charging, make sure all connections are sound and there is no broken or shorting cables. Poss it could be the brushes and or regulator, but again there could be other things in the alternator, like wires burnt out, so I would check out the external wiring, then just get a Alternator and fit the whole thing, and hope that cures it, if not take into a garage and let them diagnose the problem. 7. I still can't believe they are that bad,but I don't want to question your expertise, but are you sure the flywheel was flat up to the engine mount ? You only need a bit of swarfe or some thing behind the flywheel before you tighten it up, and that would give you a uneven surface for the clutch to go up against, so this would give you judder. But as I am not a expert on the matter, I will now shut up, but I still say you had a Friday afternoon made flywheel ! Radiotwo
  8. I have just read your post with interest, not that I have had personal experience, but my son has, he had a 1.9lt Skoda Octavia (basically same set up as yours) and he needed a clutch, and was informed it needed a new flywheel, and was quoted a silly price for a DMF and was told that a solid one could be fitted at much cheaper price, so went for that, and to be honest he did not notice any difference, (nor did I for that matter when I drove it), so up to your post I would have said they are fine. But the only difference between a DMF and a solid flywheel is the DMF has a rubber mounted center, so when you let out the clutch there is a bit of give in the clutch operation, so as you are saying a solid flywheel is out of balance then it might be the flywheel itself or there is something else causing the vibration ! I think if I was you I would take the fly wheel back and get it exchanged, but you should not get any vibration, I would (while you have it stripped down) check the main engine bearing, and also the input shaft of the gearbox, and it can only be one of the three problems, difficult to check the gearbox, but start up the car without the gearbox attatched and see if there is any vibration with the flywheel on/off ! 9. Ricky I am not a expert with the galaxy, but a couple of questions to be asked and poss someone else could help ! You say the fans are not working, but what is the temp reading on the temp gauge ? if it is normal the fan(s) won't cut in. also you say that when you plug the fan in does the fan run or not ? Radiotwo
  10. Hi Vinny Yes you need to rotate the piston (not sure if it is clock/inti-clockwise) but you need a wind back tool, (as they call it) there is a couple of types, but you can get a simple one car only unit, and a kit that does all cars, I think they are about
  11. Hi Harry As you have poss gathered I don't have a galaxy, but have wired tow-bars etc on many cars, and I always run the cable down from the battery down the chassis leg to the rear of the car and bring it up in the boot area, and attach the cable along the route with cable ties to brake lines/fuel pipes or any thing I can, but keep away from any heat, like the exhaust, and away from sharp edges. But one big tip is to use as thick cable as you can, at least 10mm2 ! The reason is as you are running the cable a long way, there is a chance of a volt drop, and by the time it gets to the caravan and you measure the voltage it will be too low to run the fridge and charge the battery. One other thing, you don't say what the "supplementary harness kit" is, but make sure it has some type of split relay device, as you need to isolate the caravan when the engine is not running, and only supplies power when it is running,so as to stop running the car battery down when hooked up to the caravan Radiotwo
  12. As you state in your profile it must be a wind up !
  13. No, its the new MOT requirement as required by the EU. Also aftermarket HIDs will be failed automatically. Sorry but you are talking through your pants, how can they fail on something that is legal ? admitting if the emissions are out and find the cause is the box then yes it will be a fail, but just because they spot a box ! Any way how does a MOT person know what one is (or for that mater qualified to say) I have a small box under my bonnet that to someone who does not know about electronics would poss say it is a tuning box bit it has nothing to do with tuning. and what are they going to do with cars that have had the internal ecu's re chipped, are they going to interrogate the CPU's with a computer to see what BHP a car is putting out (I don't think so) And you mention about HID's they have been saying that for years and I have never heard of a car with after market lamps being failed. As I see it it just a load of scaremongering from people who have nothing better to do or are jealous of people who can have these bits on the car. Radiotwo
  14. Why will it fail ? they are not illegal, as long as you inform your insurance there is no law broken Radiotwo Changes to the MOT as mandated by the EU law. It will be illegal to modify a manufacturers control unit and engine as this contravenes the certification of the vehicle. So its just a wind up then ?
  15. Why will it fail ? they are not illegal, as long as you inform your insurance there is no law broken Radiotwo
  16. It does say its for 1.9 TDi so poss not, but why don't you do as he says on the web site and email the chassis and engine number, he might have one to fit Radiotwo
  17. Hi The picture is a little dark, so not sure, but is there not two nuts(one as a Lock nut) so you need two spanners, one to hold one nut while undoing the other ! Does that make sense ? Radiotwo
  18. Just take a feed from the back of the reversing lamp in the cluster ! Radiotwo
  19. Hi ! If it is just sized up, you should not need to buy any parts, just strip down and lubricate the moving parts, (but when stripped down, check the motor works ok) Radiotwo
  20. Fuse might be wrong amp for lights check Fuse31 is 15A or wires broke in tail gate rubber shorting fogs or rear blown bulbs.. . Sorry Mate, having the wrong fuse will not cause a volts drop, plus the fact the OP is talking about the Front lamps not the rear. Radiotwo
  21. Hi and Happy new year Greg But whats all that you have put on ? Radiotwo
