Not normally no Matt ...... did you hear it running? Sounds like a mini jet engine by the way...... If you didn't, it sounds like yours has tried to ignite but has "flamed out". It will try 5 times and then lock itself out. VAG COM has to be used to reset the fault. The usual cause of this is the glow plug and will need to be changed before you have the fault reset. There is a good thread on how to do this if you do a search.

It could be the timing chain but more than likely the bearing on the water pump is about to fail ...quite a common fault on the Ka.

Anna they should turn off when you switch the radio off in the front ..... otherwise you have a problem me thinks. How long ago did you buy it because you could always take it back and get them to sort it? I had 2 remotes with mine .......

Dean ..... what you need to do is to isolate the problem which could be caused by a number of things. Check that all the external lights are working first (fog lamps we know aren't working) Then, if you can, get hold of a wiring diagram (TIS) and then start disconnecting and then reconnecting plug by plug to see if the fog lamp indication goes out. I would start with the headlamp switch bearing in mind that you are operating relays when doing this and will lose the power. You can then put a shorting link in the disconnected plug using a small piece of wire to provide power to the various parts of the circuit. Best of luck matey.

If you get another radio you may well need to buy a parrot wiring adapter to convert it to ISO. You should have a 3 month guarantee if you buy it from a dealer so anything that needs sorting get it done asap. If it's a private sale then be meticulous so you can knock down the sale price or even better, get someone to go with you who knows the tricks. Good luck.

Tim ....... sounds like glow plugish even though the weathers still warm. Does the VAG-COM check the plug resistances? Fuel quality of last refuel? Injection pump timing is another thought? .... Thats what the good Bosch book suggests anyway.

Sorry I haven't replied earlier ... The system fitted to the Mk 2's is based on the VW Navi systems but rebadged to the Ford Radio Navigation System and uses a TeleAtlas CD. The New Galaxy is a totally different system IIRC and has a touch screen system. The maps are again on CD or DVD produced by Teleatlas. To be honest, if I was buying a new Galaxy I would shell out on a decent OEM Nav system......they're better than the portable systems from my own experience. Blaupunkt manufactured the old systems ...... not sure about the new. Its Denso ..... and no you can't add speed cameras to it unless your a whizz at programming and overcoming copyright protection.
