  1. What temperature does the coolant have to be for the thermostat to allow waterflow through the radiator?
  2. does anybody know if the mk2 has a higher rating than the mk1? apparenty 2000 onwards the galaxy was built in a whole new different way, im wondering whether they changed anything for more safety..... the only difference i know of is the 2 extra side airbags.
  3. whats happpened to the edit button?
  4. I know now what is means BUT at the time it took a bit of figuring out..... do you know how i fixed it. BTW the car is runing 100% perfect now, temp gauge sits at 90 deg C after a 6 mile spin PS: If any of you have a TDi engine that takes 10/15/20 miles ot heat up i'd advise replacing your engines thermostat....
  5. Not too bad El Dingo, been quite busy so haven't been able to visit this site much  Shouldn't it move faster without pressing the gas because the new oil has less manky bits in it? The problem I'm getting is causing a slight wheelspin when moving away from a standstill... Basically what randomly happens is: after coming to a complete standstill and then, when ready, letting go of the brake pedal (to move foot to gas), sometimes the car doesn't move forward like any normal automatic would do, without gas. Then, when pressing the gas, the engine momentarily revs like it would in Park or Neutral (gets high quite quickly, about 2000 RPM), then the gearbox suddenly comes into action (because of the relatively high revs) which causes the revs to drop down due to the sudden load it puts on, which in turn sends a surge of power to the wheels, which cause it to spin a tiny bit. This mainly (rarely, although around once or twice every journey) happens when stopping at the lights or at a roundabout but sometimes it has happened when moving away for the first time after starting it, i.e selecting D for the first time for the day. If there are any questions or things you'd want me to clarify, then feel free to ask. Thanks
  6. El Dingo: by 3, do you mean that the speed at which the car moved without pressing the gas (i.e, press brake, select D, let go of brake and don't press anything) was faster?
  7. If you've answered yes, please can you tell me: 1) What problem (assuming there was a problem) you had with the gearbox 2) Did changing the oil solve the problem 3) Regardless of making the original problem better or worse, did it have any other effects i.e better gear changing, smoother gear change etc... etc. Thank you very much
  8. In my opinion, insurance companies will jump at the chance of telling you "its a write off", so that they can get it repaired cheaply (obviously, insurance companies have big (and therefore cheap) deals with garages) so that they can then sell it on..... I mean, when my dad had a small accident (his fault, therefore the opposition would have told his insurance company anyway), a recovery company sent a letter stating "we have recieved information from your insurance company to take your vehicle as it is being assumed a write off. please remove tax disc and all other personal belongings etc. they HADN'T even seen the damage! my word!
  9. This: http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...indpost&p=70133 took me half an hour per alloy, a dust pan brush and a toothbrush! but boy did them alloys look good!!! I have seen round rubber(i think) pads which are made especially to go between the brake disk+ pad and wheel. I saw these in the euro carparts mag. All you have to do to install them is take the wheel off, put the pad on (as if you were putting a wheel on) and put the wheel back on. I haven't tried them myself.
  10. PLEASE!, for heavens sake, do not let your tyre pressure drop to a dangerously LOW. Doing so causes your tyres to burst at speed, particularly at high speed. You wouldn't want that now would you? Do you all promise to check your pressure regularly???
  11. surely the easiest (and cheapest!) way is to start the car and get off your backside and look for smoke?
  12. Can someone post some pictures showing the procedure of checking if the aux heater is funtioning properly? I've been meaning to do this check for a long time but can't seem to find the temp sensor under the bonnet. There is a gap but its tiny! Unless the old owner did his own work under the bonnet!
  13. well i DO know that after 5 years the rubber disintegrates....on a molecular level. Quote (from somewhere i read): "Using a tyre older than 5 years is a recipe for disaster, if anything is going to happen to your tyres, be sure it will happen to the tyre offending the 5 year rule." I actually believed in this and proceeded to check the tyres and noticed a 6 and a half year old tyre....i mentioned this to my father who as usual didn't take any notice....on the way back from glasgow, that very tyre had a puncture when we were around Rugby / M1 J15.....thing is, we didnt even notice for at least 20 miles untill a good samaritan winded down his window and signalled us...
  14. well the ting is, i feel safe for posting here.....if i'm going on about something that no one knows about then its ok...
  15. I opened the glovebox today and on the bottom left hand side, (bottom refers to the side closest to your legs) i saw a sticker which according to my iq was about the spare wheel and how it shouldn't be driven on more than 50 MPH or 80KMPH.....i mean the spare wheel isn't exactly a space saver one is it?
  16. too complicated for me! so when i'm shopping around for computers, the main thing that you have to compare is how efficiently it can do work..... how can i do that?
  17. ok, so what specs should i look at in a processor/cpu?
  18. so whats the point of all that labelling? you know, on your laptops and computers...intel celeron, intel pentium? if it only matters about speed and power why do the companies label the computers with whichever processor it has?
  19. I've lost track of whcih intel chip set is superior than the other and i was wondering whether you could help.... all i can remember is the Intel Pentium I Intel Pentium II Intel Pentium III Intel Pentium IV after these, there have been many processors released and i dont know which is which....can anyone put these in order?: oldest to newest? Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor Intel CoreDuo processors Intel Xeon processors Intel Pentium M processors Intel Celeron M processors Intel Celeron processors
  20. I'm sorry....skoda's depreciate like a stone apparently the C4 is a relatively new car.....nothing's less then 8 grand!
  21. Looking to spend around
  22. Hi guys.... I've been at my cousins house for the past few days and shes asked me to find a suitable car for her.... She wants a medium sized car....shes got a pug 106 atm and she wants something bigger but not bigger than a ford focus hatch which is about 4.35 metres long. She would like it to be "trendy" and about 3 years + -1 year old. The ford focus doesn't look that good...so she isn't going for that but, she wants VERY good fuel economy as, even though she is a dentist and can earn
  23. After stalling, do you try to start it while the steering is still on full lock? If your answer to the above question is yes then i suggest you rotate the steering wheel about a 90 degrees in the opposite direction to the lock and then try starting it.......
  24. i dont get any bad smell but have you tried a scented washer fluid? At the moment i have an apple one in mine....smells quite nice when you use it!
  25. I'm thinking of getting an MK2.....are the parking sensors usually crap? what usually causes the prolem, the sensors or the control module? or anything else?
