  1. Buy a secondhand lever from a breaking vehicle. There's enough of 'em out there.........
  2. Do you mean number 2 on this parts diagram? (I'm assuming it's a Mk2 you've got?) If it's not this but the cable that goes into the handbrake lever, it's the whole lever I'm afraid.
  3. That's what I'm trying to tell you...... Yes, normally the sat-nav would support a CD changer EXCEPT that you've got mutimedia fitted as well which doesn't, that's why normally the 6006 changer was fitted in the dash in vehicles with multimedia fitted, but because the sat-nav takes the place of the standard head unit, this cannot be done.
  4. Ok, scrub all that. Having just looked at an old Ford brochure for the Mk2 Galaxy: "Multimedia rear seat entertainment system (DVD player)...CD autochanger is not available when this is specified. Model 6006 (in dash changer unit) becomes standard". Except that, because you've got sat-nav fitted, there's no room for a 6006. That's the price of having both sat-nav and mutimedia installed. If you had one or the other, you could fit a changer, but with both, what you've got is as good as it gets.
  5. Of the two right hand drive cables, 1135761 is listed as 'less navigation system', whereas 1135763 is listed as 'less multi media/telematics' but 'with navigation system'. Multimedia must be referring to the centre console mounted DVD player and front headrest screens, does yours have this? I didn't think it was possible to get both sat-nav and DVD player in the Mk2, and possibly that is the problem- perhaps either the DVD player or sat-nav is not original factory fit and one has been added at a later date, and with both fitted, the system cannot support a changer unit as well. I suspect the reason for the choice of cables is because the connector for the CD changer on the sat-nav unit is not the same as used on the standard head unit. Though I can't explain why the connector at the CD changer end is different (unless the CD changer itself is different internally for the sat-nav equipped model), I'm afraid you probably need the different changer unit fitted to the sat-nav equipped models, the one you've bought is just a standard one. Of the changers, 1045748 is listed 'less navigation system' whereas 1100898 is listed 'with navigation', so there are obviously differences. Also, I'm afraid just getting a lead that fits the changer may not be the answer as the connector at the head unit end is also probably different.
  6. Does the loom connector look like like it would fit this? EDIT: Ok, forget that, that's a female connector and from what you're describing you need a unit with a male connector. To be fair, it looks like there are a few different CD changers/ leads listed depending on whether sat-nav is fitted or not, if you look here you can see item 1 (the changer) and 12 (the lead) have a few options, if you hover over the '?' at the end of each line it gives some additional data- e.g, with or without sat-nav. This isn't gospel but it gives you some idea.
  7. Ok, will do it a bit later, if the changer unit I've got has the same style of connector to the one you've bought then the only other thing I can think of is that the Sat-Nav equipped models for some reason had a different changer unit fitted to them which is not interchangeable with the standard changer, it needs somebody else with a model fitted with sat-nav and a changer to confirm, or at least check the engineering part number on the changer unit, which if it's different will have a different number to the standard unit (my CD changer part number is 95VW-18C849-BA).
  8. I've got a 54 plate Ghia, I've removed the CD changer from mine because it wasn't working and replaced it by fitting one of the 6006 model in dash changer units. If it helps I can photograph the connector lead and old changer unit from mine and p.m the pictures to you, I'll have to do it that way as I can't upload pictures to the site.
  9. To my knowledge it's just one single lead, I think possibly what's happened is that over the lifetime of the Mk2 Galaxy model the style of connector on the changer unit was altered and you've bought a changer which isn't compatible with the type of connector fitted to your vehicle.
  10. On that note I have a confession to make...... having been trained on Fords which for the most part you can jack on the sills, the first non Ford I worked on and jacked up (a mate's Mk2 Golf), what did I do?! I bent the sills.... I learned my lesson after that, and at least the guys in the garage I worked for showed me how to jack up a Galaxy properly! Thesedays I tend to look for jacking points on a vehicle before going for the sills!
  11. As for what that fault code means, you'd need a wiring diagram to check what the wire it is indicating a fault with affects, the terminal it states is likely one of the multiplugs on the rear of the climate control module. The likely culprits will be wiring faults, an internal issue with the control module or a fault with an actuator under the control of the module or a sensor that the module uses a signal from. However, you need a wiring diagram for a pinpoint test.
  12. In theory it should be possible for the rear air con to discharge cooled air at the same temperature as the front system, because it is using air from inside the cabin which will have already passed through the front air con system on it's way into the vehicle. Or if the system is in recirculate mode the air should progressively cool as it repeatedly circulates within the vehicle and passes through both front and rear air con evaporators. Having said that, due to the number of vents in the roof that the rear air con supplies, it probably has a bit more work to do than the front.
  13. I'll bear it in mind, thanks! Yes, the two metal mounting brackets attach to the sides of the unit and secure to the rear glovebox casing by means of the two screws, one in each bracket.
  14. Clearing the code may not solve the issue, but it could be pointing to a defect with the climate control module itself. My aircon is degassed at the moment and non-functional, yet the control display never flashes, so just because it doesn't flash doesn't mean there isn't a fault. The fact that you were able to communicate with the module one minute but not the next could itself indicate a fault with the unit.
  15. Can't help with the VAG-com side of things I'm afraid, but in response to Chromedome's post above there is an evaporator matrix for the air con in the rear blower box.
  16. The remote fob programming procedure is the one that requires you to cycle the key in the drivers door lock. The PATS (immobiliser) programming procedure is the one that requires you to cycle the ignition on and off with the key in the ignition barrel.
  17. No, both the front and rear air con are powered by a single compressor, there aren't two separate systems. For that reason, if the front air con is working then so should the rear, unless you've got a dodgy climate control panel etc- just checking the obvious here, but you have dialled down the temperature setting on the right hand (rear) control on the panel? For maximum cooling both temperature settings should say 'LO'. Because the two systems are linked, you shouldn't be able to set the front and rear with a large difference in temperature anyway, if the rear isn't blowing cold when the display says it should be and the front blows cold with no problem then I can only think you've got a fault with either the climate control panel or the rear blower box or an actuator- e.g, the temperature control flap is jammed allowing warm air through. Might be worth checking for fault codes, the climate control panel can be interrogated with VAG-com.
  18. At least that should make it easy to fit one if you want, ebay usually has a few selling, the one I linked is actually new old stock, the only snag is it doesn't have the mounting brackets supplied with it. Also, if you were going to buy, make sure the connector in the vehicle is the right fit!
  19. Yes, if only one remote fob is working you will need to reprogramme both of them. Assuming your Galaxy has the correct owners manual, the procedure is on page 82 (the later handbook supplied with the 2004 on facelift model). It's the section headed 'key coding', I don't understand what you mean about different methods for syncing or recoding though, they are one and the same, unless you are talking about coding keys for the PATS system which is something different and not related to the remote locking.
  20. I know that the later models that were DVD player equipped with the front headrest screens were fitted with a 6006 model in dash CD changer, but obviously with sat-nav, there's no room for this! So has yours got sat-nav and a DVD player, or just sat-nav? According to my Galaxy brochure the Blaupunkt factory fit sat-nav should have been equipped with the 6 disc changer in the rear glovebox, is it possible your Galaxy wasn't factory fitted with sat-nav and somebody has added it subsequently without fitting the changer?
  21. Usually, unless it's got the 6006 in dash changer it's in the rearmost storage compartment/ glovebox (by the third row of seats on the offside).
  22. Usually if it's not engaging it's due to low gas in the system. If you say the gas has been checked and the quantity/ pressure in the system is ok then that's not the cause, so you're either looking at a dodgy compressor or controls, or a wiring/ pressure sensor fault. With the engine OFF, can you rotate the end plate of the magnetic clutch on the compressor pulley by hand? (the plate that sits on the outside of the main grooved pulley where the belt sits, it's usually slightly smaller than the main pulley in diameter with 3 flat round 'heads'). It should rotate with some resistance, if you can't turn it at all then the compressor is likely seized.
  23. Nightmare, well you've done most of the work to remove the head so you could pull it off and check for damage to the piston crowns and maybe use a DTI gauge to make sure the con rods haven't been bent, you might get away with just a replacement head. Not good though, what a bummer it's done major damage......
  24. No, the 2.3 petrol and 1.9 TDI air con compressors are NOT the same, The TDI compressor is a VW sourced unit (like the engine) whilst the 2.3 petrol is a Ford engine with a Ford sourced compressor, they are not interchangeable. If the pulley is missing, have they fitted a shorter belt to bypass it whilst still driving the power steering pump, water pump, alternator etc? Ebay usually turns up a few, this one should be correct, worth checking the engineering number off of your old unit though.
  25. Is the water pump working? Quite often the impeller breaks and detaches from the shaft, therefore although the shaft may still be rotating ok, the pump isn't actually doing anything.
