  1. Just ordered some HID's. I think all the electronics, etc will fit inside the headlight assembly on my Mk2 so hopefully will be straight forward to fit. I'll post my results soon.
  2. Sounds good. I'll have to clear it with "she who must be obeyed" first. I'll get back to you.
  3. There must be more space under the diesel bonnet than my 2.3 petrol, honest there's no room to move. Is the HID the xenon lamp upgrade and how easy is it? I thought you needed self levelling suspension, etc.
  4. You can't fit 100w bulbs because they are not street legal. The higher wattage bulb would also draw extra current, almost twice as much, which may permanently damage the vehicle wiring. I've got Philips Vision Plus fitted and they are very good. They are also filtered so the plastic lens won't turn yellow. You can find out all about them here http://www.powerbulbs.co.uk/ When changing the bulbs you will find it a lot easier to remove the headlight as it's almost impossible otherwise. There are two screws at the top of the light, with plastic caps on, and one screw down each side of the light (do not remove these just slacken off a couple of turns). You will need a long stardrive screwdriver. Hope this helps.
  5. One more thing. I don't think the 2.8 has a camshaft belt. What I've read on the forums is that it's a chain on the back of the engine. Engine and gearbox has to come out to change it but don't be alarmed as it doesn't seem to be a weakness/problem.
  6. Sounds like symptoms you get when the fluid level gets too low. Are you sure the dealership filled it correctly?
  7. Get the family inside and get them breathing heavy to steam up the windows  . You should see the elements of the screen heater clearing the windscreen.
  8. My previous Galaxy had the cills bent three times by the Ford Dealership. If you look at the cills from a distance you will soon discover if they're bent. The edge of the cill can fold under due to the weight of the vehicle. Apparently all cars are lifted on the cills, aghhhhhhh, but I understand a flyer has been issued about doing it on the Galaxy. My cills were repaired each time but the vehicle was off the road a week each time. Good luck...............
  9. The glass itself is tinted. I've used cellulose thinners in the past to get sticky things off, never had any problems. Just be patient and don't rub too hard or use anything to scrape with.
  10. I've read on the forum that the Mk1 grab handle cannot be purchased seperately and you have to buy the whole door card at about
  11. More. If it's a 6000 or 6006 radio the pink wire should connect to position 4 of the 17 way connector.
  12. If you mean the Nokia wiring then it's the pink wire.
  13. Pleased you found the problem. One of the biggest causes of water in this area is the rear washers. There is a joint in the pipework which can come apart, so everytime you use the rear washer you fill the car instead. There are some threads on this forum which cover this problem, I believe there are pictures available as well. I think the join is behind the panel in the foot well but don't take my word for it.
  14. Check you haven't got water under the front passenger seat. That's where the sensor electronics are. If you have got water there do a search for leaking rear windscreen washer!
  15. Depends how skilled you are! You need to slide back the rubber gaiters and make sure the joints are packed with grease. Just then need to slide the gaiter back into place. I think you can re-secure them with cable ties but I stand to be corrected. I'm not sure what type of grease you need, perhaps someone else on the forum could answer that one. Sorry the answer is a bit vague but I'm not that good at car DIY.
  16. Check CV Joints are greased properly. If not lubricated properly this can cause a wobble from the front of the car.
  17. Check that CV joints are properly lubricated, especially if it's more of a wobble that you're getting.
  18. I had the same problem with my Galaxy. Just went round the edges of the latch holes with a sharp knife taking any rough edges off. The box now opens everytime without problems. Thanks to everyone for their input.
  19. Found the fault, fuse 31 blown (3amp). Actually managed to find the info on the TIS CD. Many thanks for the reply, at least it pointed me in the right direction.
  20. My radio has suddenly developed a fault. When you switch it on, even with the ignition on, the display reads "1 HOUR". I thought this was only displayed if you switched the radio on with the ignition in the off position. Does anyone know if there is a way the reset the radio? Thanks.
  21. I had problems with an auto box on my previous Galaxy. Would ony select first gear, switch off and switch on all OK. Other gear change problems, fouth straight down to first when slowwing down, etc. Turned out to be a faulty electronic gearbox controller. No problems after change.
  22. My squeak started off only when cold but got progessively worse so it squeaked all the time. The tensioner costs
  23. I've just had the squeaky belt syndrome. Changed the belt which lasted about a week. Ford diagnosed the problem as the belt tensioner, cost of changing it
  24. While on the subject of brakes, what clever tricks do you guys have for topping up the fluid reservoir.
  25. Forgot to mention, drain the cooling system first.
