  1. came across this on ebay recently, not sure if it would be suitable for the galaxy? Certainly doesn't look a million miles away : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BOSCH-universal-auxiliary-additional-electric-water-pump-for-car-vehicle-heating-/181245107708?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a330cddfc BOSCH number 0 392 020 034
  2. I take it this the pierburg one : http://www.air-mass-meter.com/2008/general/the-solution-for-tdi-engines-pierburg-air-mass-meter-722684080/
  3. well done having a go though! I've not come across recon units before on ebay, just second hand units. Out of curiosity, are the D5W and D3W interchangable, or do you have to get the correct version for your car? I know the Mk1 and Mk2 aren't compatible (actually, is this true - will a mk1 heater work on a mk2?).
  4. I thought you could do it but needed the code?
  5. I take it vcds cant do it?
  6. I invested in the draper tool to remove the hose clips, made the job so much easier. Biggest problem I had was disconnecting the electrical I decided to keep the CT clips (constant tension?) after I found the jubilee clips I put on when I removed the aux heater had started to weep. Put the CT clips back on and no more leaks. Mind you I wouldn't be surprised if it was the quality of the clips (or lack thereof) that was the problem.
  7. could you turn the blower motor by hand? I watched a youtube video of the eberspacherparts guys freeing the motor off using a craft knife to clean the corrosion from around it.
  8. be amazed it if works to be honest but it saves me welding my exhaust back on!
  9. Thanks gregers, I managed to check the part nos too and they match. Decided to try a second hand unit, just need to think of a way to test the thing without having to plug / plumb it all in. On second thoughts, plumbing it in might actually be the best way to check it!
  10. Ah, I see, so the 205/55R16 C rated which has a higher load index than reinforced is suitable, but the reinforced tyre in that size isn't. Had a quick look and I take it this would be suitable : Bridgestone 2055516 (98/96H) ER30C But the reinforced equivalent : Bridgestone 2055516 (94H) ER300 Extra Load Isn't. However, 215's have a higher load rating so a reinforced in that size is sufficient : Bridgestone 2155516 (97W) RE002 Extra Load The key being the numbers 94, 96 and 97. I can understand the confusion to a lay-person (tyres for my other cars are so much easier!) but would have expected the fitters to know their stuff.
  11. I've got 205/55 R16 listed in my mk2 book, says: 205/55 R 16 C 98/96 H Pressures are : Normal loading 49 front / 44 rear Full loading 51 front / 56 rear Might be the previous owner lost their owners guide and replaced it with one for a mkII?
  12. There are a couple of things to watch for. The brushes need to be far enough back to allow the motor commutator(?) to fit in the middle. Also, the ends of the brushes and wires need to be clear of the edge. When reinstalling, there's also some resistance due to the rubber seal. I found holding the unit vertically and lowering the water end into position was easiest, but needed a few goes to get it right. I tried a few times with thread but it just wasn't working. Found it a lot easier with the cocktail sticks. Make sure the brushes are short enough so everything will go back together with no fouling. some people also have filled up the holes with sealant, needless to say I didn't (forgot until I'd put it back on the car!) but no problems so far.
  13. Can't seem to upload. Will try these links :
  14. > Thanks. Spent ages today trying to get the pump back together after replacing the bushes. I have now given up. I drilled 2 holes in mine so I could pop cocktail sticks through to hold the springs from the end of the brushes. I'll see if I can find a pic.
  15. rather gutted I missed out on the new ones recently sold by a ford garage on ebay for
  16. would a heater from a mk2 sharan circa 2002 likely to be compatible with my mk2 galaxy?
  17. My mate's dads galaxy was playing up (every light on dash lighting up) and garage reckoned it was a short in the ignition barrel. Actually, I'm not sure he's got it back yet!
  18. ebay second hand. There's one there for
  19. They actually sell the laser branded one too, but it's double the price! http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/laser-1314-brake-caliper-piston-re-wind-tool-s?da=1&TC=SRC-brake+wind+again
  20. For anyone still looking for one, I was in machine mart yesterday for something else and they had brake rewind tools for
  21. > Perspex I made mine out of perspex. Was fine when the cleaner went in (and you could see through it so you could tell when it was "full"). However it melted when using the acetone spray to rinse away the cleaner! Wood might be better, but then you lose the transparancy.
  22. Jack up car and support on axle stands. remove under tray cover. place soft comfy surface (e.g. old carpet) on cold, hard ground wiggle under car until you can see where exhaust enters turbo. Look other side of turbo for actuator arm. Try to move actuator arm with finger. Then try to move actuator arm with spanner. If it's siezed solid, try innotec with the turbo in situ. I wouldn't worry (for now) about the intake manifold or EGR valve.
  23. You don't need to remove the turbo to try the innotec, it's designed to be used with the turbo in situ, you only disconnect the exhaust down-pipe from the turbo outlet to use it.
  24. there was a garage selling heaters on ebay recently, new ones, for between 100 and 150. To get the heater working you'd need a new pump anyway. check the new pump before you install it.
  25. what year's your car, and what's your mileage? you'd feel the pump vibrating if it was running, though you may need to start the engine to get yours to work. Mine runs for 3 mins after the engine is switched off, and you can hear it clearly if you're looking in the engine bay. you can also feel it running. some newer cars don't have the 3 min delay though hence asking for year. The brushes need replaced after 80K or so.
