I have a Mk2 2.3 Auto and it's fine - we get around 30mpg average. Nice to drive, as Mumble Bee says, around town especially. If I could have found one at the time (in the right spec.), I would have gone for a V6 - nice burble and all that. Don't worry too much about mpg - depreciation will make a bigger dent in your wallet, unless you're buying at the 'bargain' end of the market.

G'day Shiela! Something wrong with yer PC???? Is Huddersfield in Scotland??? BTW, nice bush!

Brake Light Switch - Changed Again
El Dingo replied to tim-spam's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Curious - I've never changed mine, but I just checked and it's sort of purple/violet. VAG seem to have a policy of 'don't change it unless enough people complain'. In the US, product liability and the sheer size of the market mean that this kind of failure is treated rather more seriously than in the UK. -
To save confusion I'll call yer Bruce!

Please accept my consolation. The cat/exhaust change isn't too hard - but would be much easier on a ramp. I wouldn't recommend doing this at home unless you can get a good 'swing' at it. At the very least you need the car up on ramps rather than axle stands. The car must be well supported and very secure if you are underneath! If the exhaust is corroded, it'll be hard to separate, so there will be lots of pulling and pushing...

... well, you know, not as in Galaxy rules the World, or anything like that. How about 'Rules for ownership of a Ford Galaxy, VW Sharan or Seat Alhambra. RULE 1: Never park your Galaxy anywhere near a tree. REASON: The car will eventually fill with water (scuttle will fill with leaves which block the drains). Rule 2 anyone?

Rule 1 of Galaxy ownership - don't park anywhere near trees.

Yes, they only let him out on forums... Me too - why do you think they call me Woofy?

Yeah, you're right gregers - jealous of the better fuel consumption. And jealous of the turbo my new car won't have. Wish I could fit a Subaru STi engine in a BMW Mini...

1) Who said that? 2) Depends on the paper you read - certainly doesn't take up any column inches of what I read. I think there's a bit of logic failure here - the majority of column inches devoted to soap operas are generally found in publications that would hardly be classed as 'intellectual and informative'. 3) Your opinion - although to label a good product as rubbish just because you don't like it is not really valid. As for coming onto this forum expecting some sort of sympathy because you've been lumbered with yet another diesel is perhaps a little silly - afer all, you should really consider your audience, over 90% of whom have chosen to buy diesel for all of the many advantages it offers. You obviously do not like diesels - that's clear - but this really comes down to personal prejudice and nothing more. 1. Erm, actually you did. "After all, the A4 2.0 TDI gets really bad write-ups in the press...". You were being sarcastic, right? 2. This is obviously taken out of context - I don't feel the need to answer this. 3. Of course it's just my opinion, you fool! Actually, the 'temporary' car is quite nice - the diesel is much more refined than the Audi, but there's a little more turbo lag. Nothing's perfect, eh? New car is on order... Guess what engine??? Sympathy??? Don't make me laugh! Actually, that's the point of 'General Discussion and Nonsense' - to have a laugh. Long standing members here will know that I make anti-diesel comments frequently and that I can be remarkably silly and unreasonable on occasion. Have a beer (or whatever makes you happy) and lighten up!

Hear, hear, Biggy and Gregers!

These electrical/corrosion gremlins seem to be common on cars that do low milages... Is that the case with you? Our Galaxy had average miles on it when we bought it, but now only does a 'school run' and the odd blast down to Devon. Corrosion has started to show itself, especially the exhaust, which will need a new back box soon (already patched up once).

We live at the top of a hill - the soil drains rapidly - so a few days of sun and I have to get watering!

Interesting stuff from 'Honest John'. http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/index.htm?md=121& "What to Watch Out For Make sure 7-seaters are genuine seven-seaters with rearmost area heating and not just 5-seaters with two extra seats clipped in. Make sure recall work carried out. Beware if wipers won't turn off. Vital to check that the aircon works properly as this is a common failure and fixing it can be very expensive. Clonks from the front of a 2.3 petrol model may mean one or more engine mounting bolts have sheared. JATCO advises owners not to carry out AUTOMATIC transmission fluid changes hemselves because it's difficult to ensure the correct amount is added (the gearbox needs to be run to a specific temperature - This requires diagnostic equipment) and probably they will use the wrong oil, e.g. Land Rover Discovery ATF is different from a Land Rover Freelander, and Jaguar X-Type (Jatco) uses different ATF to a Land Rover Freelander (Jatco). Reconditioned JATCO automatic transmissions around

Good point, well made.

Bleeno and Stevie 'big-boy' (!) are right IMHO. I'd also recommend using a wind-back tool. For example: http://www.toolsbypost.com/product.php?id=...e5c0a1417f72dec This is just one supplier - found using a Google search. Halfords also sell this tool, as do many motor factors.

Cruise Scare! Suggestions Please.
El Dingo replied to neiluk's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Clarification - mine is a petrol Mk2 with Ford's vacuum CC system... Mum, yours was a Mk2 diseasel, with a VW 'electronic' system. Maybe that's why there's a difference? Edit: Yawn... I don't really care TBH... ;) -
Cruise Scare! Suggestions Please.
El Dingo replied to neiluk's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
BigD might just have hit the nail on the head... Could it be a squeaky tensioner pulley? Our CC works from about 30mph up. -
Bleenos real and extended signature: "Keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you're up to" with your hand in your pocket like that...

I have nothing constructive to add to this at the moment. Says it all really. Go for the rubber mats, by the way. -
