  7. CHAV LITE?
  8. Nikvenn - I think my gal is the same colour as yours... Here's a pic of mine I took last night.
  9. Where are you based? If you are local try Micheldever Tyres (just off the A303 not far from Winchester) - they sorted my old Leon Cupra R when Seat had no idea. They run a kind of 'production line' for tyre fitting, balancing, etc. and two or three laser bays for four wheel alignment and adjustment. Prices are very reasonable. Contact details at http://www.micheldever.co.uk/ (I have no connection or affiliation with these guys, BTW.)

  11. Cabbies do it because the black cab has a notoriously poor heating system (and diesel power without 'immersion heaters'). Outside air cools the engine and coolant pipework. Reduce airflow around the engine bay and you'll get more heat through the heater matrix. Not an experiment that I would undertake, however.
  12. Me again... all alone...
  13. Just D myself...
  14. Yip Yip Yip - that's a real Dingo congratulations. B)
  15. The short answer is yes. The long answer is that VAG engines, multivalve in particular, are well known for highish oil usage. (The TDi engines in the Galaxy are VAG sourced.) Some of this is valve stem leakage, but some of it can be due to the piston rings not bedding in properly (insufficient revs during run-in) or cylinder scoring (caning it during run-in). (If you are a petrol head, do you *really* want a diesel???)
  16. I have to hold the resume for a few seconds too. AFAIK this is normal.
  17. It sounds to me like you might have had an attempted break in. Is there any visible damage to the keyhole or nearby (such as a small hole punched through the door skin, or evidence of a lever used between the door and frame)?
  18. I sometimes notice a beeping sound long before I switch on the ignition. It happens in the morning usually, but has happened at night too. The funny thing is, it happens at the same time each day, and my wife manages to stop it by pressing a button... B)
  19. Sorry if I am one of the fruitcakes on occasion... B) It's a great forum - you don't have to spell well, and you can even have a dodgy avatar (not you Mof4, but yours does make me giddy). My advice - ignore the nasty stuff. However, can we have a moderation of the rude stuff? - my son likes to read this forum too (and he's only 23...)
  20. FLOCCINAUCINIHILIPILIFICATION
  21. Only kids write difficult words in big letters.
  22. I've experienced a Revo re-map on a turbo petrol engine and found it to be quite startlingly different. In fact, bl**dy amazing. IMHO use a known and reputable company, eg. Revo, Upsolute, AMD. Check other users experience, and not just on a web forum. Almost any dick can plug a VAG-com cable into your diagnostic port and claim to have added 20HP. If you can't *really* feel the difference with a turbo petrol or turbo diesel then it ain't been done. (Caveat - non-turbo engines can be chipped too, but the gains are minimal, or limited to 'aiding drivability' rather than real power hikes.) Some dealers are quite happy about chipping - if you are worried, why not ask what their attitude is, and whether they would honour the warranty? (The above mentioned companies claim that their products cannot be detected during a routine service.)
  23. Sympathy from here. By the way, I have a 12" diameter piece of vinyl with a groove on each side and a hole in the middle. Is this a record? B)
  24. I think that Haynes are gradually giving up on car manuals. Every car I've had after 1990 doesn't have a Haynes Manual - and these aren't exactly exotic vehicles. A Haynes Product Manager told me two years ago that they only make manuals for cars that have sold over 50,000 units. Surely there have been more Mk2 Galaxy's than that? They seem to have concentrated on the US market, with no great sucess, and on novelty and semi-commercial production, again, with no great success. Personally, I wouldn't buy shares...
