  1. Not true (sorry).
  2. I 'phoned my Ford dealer, gave him the serial number - two taps of the keyboard later and he gave me the code. Didn't even ask for my name. <_<
  3. The dashboard could be offset. It is adjustable left/right, but a bu66er of a job I would imagine. Might have been installed offset at the factory. If you put a rag between the door and the dash, does the rattle stop? Have a look around the fuse box cover - this has been known to rattle.
  4. Yer not a REAL member until you've changed the cabin filter without removing the entire windscreen wiper assembly. And have severely grazed knuckles in the process. <_<
  5. I found it really hard to find the 'right' Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra. (I wanted a V6 and settled for a 2.3 with toys instead.) There are plenty of 'poverty spec.' Galaxys out there. I'd avoid Zetec and (like VR6 says) go for air-con. 90Hp is a little light for this car, as is the 2.0 petrol. Go for 115 if you can afford it - and by the way, the 2.3 petrol is fine, and not too thirsty, and you'll save on the initial purchase. Try the Great Trade Centre - they generally have a good selection, but maybe too rich (all over 6K)? Autotrader is a good bet. Finally, don't hang around - the good ones go quickly - take Friday off work to be first in the queue.
  6. According to ETKA it could be 1Z, ANU, AFN, AVG or AHU... but this is VW Sharan. ????? ... and my timing belts book says 1Z or AHU from 1995 to 1999 and AFN from 1997 to 2000. So I guess studiodemon is right. Or you could ring a Ford dealer and ask?
  7. Don't be silly - you forgot the 2.3 which is easily the best. Smooth, cheap parts (much cheaper than VW) and easy to work on. Hi John - long time no talk... Is the :P caused by all that nasty soot? :P
  8. Do a search - during a diesel v petrol flaming, another member mentioned that 2.3 petrol engines are prone to rubber perishing around the coil packs....
  9. I had this with my Galaxy - changed the OEM cabin filter for a Ford 'active charcoal' unit - no more smell! The engine smells can get past the bonnet/scuttle seals. (Or maybe you have a gas recirc pipe disconnected?)
  10. It looks like they push fit - not held in by any screws AFAIK.
  11. Because the shipping is with DHL and is $45. Add the price of the lead $250 gives $295. That is
  12. Why not order direct from Ross-Tech? :)
  13. 29 BHP? Pah! (I fart in your general direction. I wave my private parts at your auntie)
  14. Actually I can, now I've had my supper. Synchro cone accelerates the gear to match speed with adjacent shaft. Different driving styles can create a different wear pattern. This does not apply to knackered synchro cone.
  15. Nothing to do with revs... The advice was just to drive like normal. That's what I did, and the crunch went away. I'm a mechanical engineer and I can't explain it...
  16. I've owned... ABC ACE AAN 7A ...amongst others... Nothing wrong with the lovely quiet Ford 2.3 either!
  17. If you are going to buy a 'full' version, I recommend buying from Ross-Tech direct, not from a distributor. Ross-Tech offers upgrades, etc. that don't apply if you bought from a distributor. And you won't get any hassle with activation codes when you change the PC if you buy direct.
  18. This could also be a sticky (rather than siezed) caliper.
  19. Here's a tip from previous experience with VAG gearboxes... Have you recently aquired the vehicle? I'm told by my source at Audi that these gearboxes are especially prone to second gear crunch when new, or when driven by a new driver in a different 'style'. The best advice is to ignore it and the crunch goes away after a while. :( This worked with two of my cars, one a Seat 6 speed and one an Audi 6 speed (my current 'other' car). At your own risk though... ;)
  20. Main dealer price is 'only'
  21. Mine sometimes does a 'snatchy' take up, especially after putting into drive. It's not serious, just mildly irritating. I must look in TIS...
  22. Yes, I also have tom tom 5 on a pda and road angel for my gps receiver (used in my company Audi), and yes, the pda (XDA2) locks up approx. every three weeks, requiring total restore and re-synch with my laptop. I bought the wife tom tom one, and put the suction mount in the a-pillar glass (not ideal, I know). Works a treat, but I'd still prefer a 'pukka' system. It's about the only optional extra our Galaxy doesn't have... :P
  23. This is a control module at the accelerator pedal on AFN? I'm not familiar with it, so ignore me! Sorry...
  24. He he he (sorry) If you can reach past the wheel, the whole spare wheel assembly is held on to the chassis by two bolts. Or maybe you can turn the wheel and get a socket on the bolts through an opening in the wheel? Good luck! The wheel holder/carrier/windy-up-thingy  is not easily disassembled, so if the winding nut just spins and you can't get it to thread back in you'll be in for a new one...
  25. This is a quote from 'Honest John' in his car-by-car-breakdown on the Ford Galaxy. In the 'What's Bad' section... 'Water gets into wiper motors, corroding them. New motors
