  1. Hi mrunlucky, When you say ingnition is switched on, is the engine running, or just ignition switch on?
  2. Promises, promises... :angry2:
  3. Wooooooohhhhh! Spppoooooky!!! :angry2: Is this the ghost of VR6? Is he haunting you, Mof4? C'mon VR6, sign up again (but don't let yourself get all wound up). Some forum members appreciate the benefit of having your knowledge here.
  4. I did Galaxy DIY today. Fixing the dash-top storage boxes that just refuse to open after a while, and tidying up the Tom-Tom power supply with a neat three-way 12V socket thingy - leaving two spare sockets (plus the one in the ashtray) for mobile 'phone, Road Angel, sex toys, etc.
  5. That' something I can't disagree with... I HATE standing at the pumps filling up. (Probably due to the fact that I was born in a garage, and worked the pumps as a part-time job.)
  6. 1. No problem with the gearbox. 2. See 1. 3. Slightly less drag from the torque converter when stationary. I just felt that 5 years/50,000 miles is enough for any oil. You should have seen the sludge that came out of the box! :angry2:
  7. I love my 2.3 too. :) (Would like a 2.8 though!) The 2.0 TDi (as fitted to my Audi A4) is over boosted, hard to drive smoothly and noisy, and averages 40 mpg with a mix of motorway and back-road driving. I got better out of a 1.8 petrol Toyota Avensis last week (42.5 mpg). On this basis, the petrol car is more carbon friendly than the diesel (against all the current politically-correct thinking). Of course the Avansis is lighter (1,200kg against nearly 1,500kg), however, energy costs (and hence carbon emmissions) in the build are higher for diesels. Watch out if you have a non-particulate-filtered diesel, even if it is Euro IV compliant. I predict that we are going to get hit with heavier company car tax, due to the particulate pollution issues. I expect the treasury to wake up to the pollution issue next budget, and slap some extra duty on diesel. :) The future is bioethanol - carbon neutral and (relatively) clean! :) (Oh, and low capacity twin charger designs, like the VAG 1.4 fitted to the Golf GTI.)
  8. No automatic on this one ..... shakes the pedals too :) stall warning? :) Caption competition... What is Woofy saying???? If you think Im switching to Stud 8 while watching top gun ...forget it!! Hey Ding..what you sat in .....racking my brain here! F4 (Phantom) on USS Midway in San Diego. http://www.midway.org/site/pp.asp?c=coIMKTMCF&b=81432
  9. Just a thought. Is this why Ford dealers now sell an Odour Filter rather than the plain Jane Cabin Filter?
  10. Wierd - this happens every night in our house... :)
  11. But SWMBO wanted an auto  WIMP ;) Yep. I know which way my cookie is buttered. Um, bread is baked? Er, cluttered nookie? ;)

  13. Thanx! (especially to gregers, who knows I am an old git) ;)
  14. Ray's the Titanic. (But at least he did it 'his way'.) The McDonald brothers didn't go large. Ben thumped them out. Leona was almost perfect, if you like that kind of voice.
  15. What I do know is that even big brand tyres can be rubbish. For example, Goodyear NCT 5, on a (latest model) Vectra SRI, were absolutely appalling - aquaplaning a big problem and poor lateral grip. Continental Sport Contact II, on the same car, like a different world. No aquaplaning, great grip and improved directional stability, and reduced torque steer. Really confidence inspiring. Having said that, Goodyear F1's were wonderful on a Seat Leon Cupra R, much better than the Pirelli P-Zero Rosso, especially in the wet. I am sure that budget tyres can be OK. Personally, I'll try to go for latest technology, with some caution (as above). It's a pity you can't always 'try before you buy'. That's why I'll be reading all the 'reviews' on this forum again before I buy new tyres for our Galaxy. ;)
  16. Don't you mean "Get a Zafira"? Or have you gone off them? ;)
  17. erm..... It was my birthday yesterday... ;)
  18. Yeah, c'mon John... what were your likes and dislikes?
  19. ;) ;)
  20. The only other thing to add is that auto boxes will always use more fuel than manual. My personal preference would be a Mk2 V6 manual. But SWMBO wanted an auto, and when I bought mine I couldn't find a 2.8 auto. Hence the 2.3, but I have to say it's a sweet engine and I'm happy enough with the performance, and mpg averaging 30 on a long run. Another thing to consider is that if you save thousands by buying an 'unfashionable' petrol, it might work out cheaper over the life of the car, depending on your mileage. All Galaxy prices have dropped a lot recently, but petrol ones have dropped harder. Finally, if you are going to do your own maintenance, the 2.3 has more room in the engine bay! ;)
  21. Hmm, yes, quite!
  22. We had a VIOLENT thunder storm at about 11:30 this morning. Forked lightening, sky almost black. Scared the willies out of the cat. No snow here. :D
  23. bra???..whose wearing a bra?? :D :o :P :D   by the way....it vibrates just right when its spinning ;)  What, the bra?
  24. I think there was a major power cut in London on Friday - Radio 1 lost their Maida Vale studio, and had to move their live guest in a taxi. It (somehow) affected local BBC stations as far away as Radio Cumbria. Anyway, I find Radio 4 is always too quiet. Switching between R4 and R1/commercial stations (as I regularly do) requires constant fiddling with the volume control. Don't have a problem with R1 though.
  25. Nodes have an effect too. It's not just the length of an exhaust or the diameter. This is interesting... http://64.233.183.104/search?q=cache:0Uzp_...en&ct=clnk&cd=4
