  1. Sticky Caliper...could be ! My money is on a sticky piston.
  2. Surely if the compressor is running ok then the condenser will get very cold....would this be the easiest way to check. If the condensor is not cold then it is a compressor/refrigerant probem. If it is cold then it is a flap/temperature selection problem. Just a thought....shout me down if I am talking carp again.
  3. BJ another classic.
  4. The smell is most likely the brake fluid boiling. This is most likely caused by only one side of your front brakes working and therefore it is getting rather hot. The other side could be either poor pads or a sticky piston, should be obvious on inspection. The ABS system is seperate from the main braking system and ( not getting into any debate about whether ABS is of any practical use ) does not indicate one way or another whether your main braking sytem is operating correctly. Lastly the handbrake works via a cable onto your rear wheels and will function regardless of the state of your main braking system. The best guide to whether your brakes are working correctly is, as you indicated at the start, whether it feels right under your foot. It doesn't feel right and therefore it is most likely not right. Whip the wheels of and have a look.
  5. The difference between 94 and 95 Rating is only about 80kg. A fully loaded V6 Auto is a hellava lot more than this in comparison to your 2.0l and therefore if it is ok to have 95 rated tyres then yours should be OK with 94. Or lose 80kg from your vehicle ( wife + shopping springs to mind ).
  6. My first thought with any starting problem with a diesel is the battery.....it has to be fully charged or else it will take a few cranks to start the engine...although I would have thought this would affect a cold engine more than a hot one. Alternatively it could be a fuel problem....ie air getting into the system...possible if the fuel filter has been changed and something is not tightened up.
  7. More importantly they need to have reinforced or RF written on the side.
  8. I would have thought the 94 rating would be fine on a 2.0L
  9. I thought it was a Pivot Bolt and that it was the Roller Bearing behind it that had come loose. This would make sense as it would not actually be tightening the belt.
  10. It depends on what your cars history is. I used to do some surveys in mine and on an average working day I would open and close the door over 50 times. Doubtless this would have definitely reduced the lifetime of the flexible wires running to the door, It is possible that your Gal drivers door has had a similar rough life.
  11. I am not sure what your problem is with the live terminal.......its only a nut and bolt isn't it ? Yes you wil get a spark, some systems are permanently powered, alarm, central locking, clock etc.
  12. I have a wife MK I that can cook, fair condition, 2 careful owners, bodywork reasonable for age, high mileage though and a bit noisy.
  13. Hi NIkki, hope you enjoy the forum....you will find lot of useful info. MO4 what did you edit ? Hope it wasn't the bit where she left me her phone number.
  14. The relay does sound a bit iffy see if you can find someone with the same and swap it. Check both brake switches......assuming you have 2. Then check if all is ok with the Glow Plug Light.
  15. I would be looking at the relay or the brake switch. It is unlikely to be the ECU they never fail ( short of a fire or drowning ). The faulty ignition relay will send the ECU a bit loopy as will a dodgy brake switch...fix them and the ECU is fine.
  16. Damn............ I was hoping for some pics
  17. You in the WRAF..........I have a thing about women in uniform
  18. Strangely enough I had visions of one appearing sometime soon......when's your MOT due ? Wolfie...baby....that was downright cruel .........bloody funny though.. :)
  19. I must be missing something.....(make your own jokes up) What's "the Goat"
  20. I would prefer Kev.....but close enough ! Nope.......I ain't gonna go there !
  21. At least now you will be able to see if a pigeon has pooped on your roof !
  22. Definitely sound like air in the system. I am a bit worried about the comment regarding topping up the Brake fluid ? Your new pads would be thicker than the old ones and therefore you would have too much fluid in the system and the last thing it would need would be topping up. Did you open any of the nipples to assist in pushing the pistons back.....if so this is where the air would have got in. Bleed the brakes again......I am assuming that you are using non-return valves or a bottle of fluid on the pipe from the nipples.
