Hi All, I have been lucky and after a spate of punctures a few years ago I have not had one for a while, but for the last one I had to buy a new tyre even though the punctured one was only 25% worn. It was explained at the time that it could not be repaired or have a tube fitted but I can

Air-con Evaporator Replacement?
Ogben Schmutzel replied to Charliemuttley's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
As I understand it, once you have got to the evaporator it is a couple of hours work. To get to the evaporator requires removal of the dash and removal of the heater assembly. The dash removal being the job that takes the time. Oggy. -

Alhambra Se V Galaxy Ghia
Ogben Schmutzel replied to Ogben Schmutzel's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Mumof4 >>>Ahh parking sensors..i use mine all the time..even when at lights so i can tell how close the car behind is!! In case you slip it into reverse by accident? ;) Wow what a debate you could start here!! Agree mostly, but I did find the heated front screen very useful while the aircon wasn't working. Sorry about the odd formatting but something went wrong somewhere and I have had to edit this post to include the comments. Cheers. Oggy. -
Help ! Coolant Dumped All Over

A bloke I see at work occasionally was looking at an Alhambra and asked what I thought. I suggested that he makes sure he gets a good warrantee and ensure that it that covers Aux Heater and Air Con and to have a look on this forum. He later told me that they would not give him a warrantee. Haven't had chance to go into detail (like did he mean NO warrantee at all which seems a bit strange) but he decided not to buy it anyway. Bought a new Zafira instead for not a lot more than he was going to spend on the Alhambra! By the way in my post above I meant to say about HALF a dozen regasses not a dozen!!! Cheers. Oggy. -
Air-con Evaporator Replacement?
Ogben Schmutzel replied to Charliemuttley's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
As I understand it, it is difficult and takes a few days but for someone with your undoubted skills I reckon quite achievable!! Have a look in the FAQ (pinned at the top of this group) for an excellent post on replacing the evaporator! How do you KNOW that you have an evaporator leak? Cheers. Oggy. -

Help ! Coolant Dumped All Over
Ogben Schmutzel replied to jkspoff's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I know what you mean. I have had my Alhambra for about 15 months now and its been a money pit. Not due only to unreliability. Aux Heater and Aircon problems have cost well over a grand, but also tyres, cam belt, service etc. similar to you I reckon I have had about dozen regasses with this car. I am hoping that I am on top of it now, but the computer started to warn that next service is due in a 1,000 miles or so!! Regarding proof - the truth is that you can't. The garages always have the upper hand unless you really have positive proof, but as I said this is only circumstantial. It is possible that rad could have gone anyway. Your only case I reckon is to argue your point, ask to see the radiator damage and see if they will accept responsibility or accept a doing the job parts cost or something. Anway if you have warrantee does it matter? Regards. Oggy. -

The condenser is right in front of the radiator!! As I heard someone say once "The Circumstantial Evidence is Overwhelming"!! Best of luck. Oggy. -
No email received yet MM!! Anyway thanks for the link, I won't bother to post given that its already there now. It seems that for some reason my mate decided to go with the condenser and drier even though maybe it only the drier, but to be honest I'm not going to get too excited about it. The time and money that has been spent on this I don't mind eliminating another major component. For the time being at least. FYI, and I realise this is my problem not yours, clicking the link tries to run the video in Apple QuickTime with Internet Explorer and it hangs the browser session. If I download it plays in Real Player just fine. Thanks for you contribution. I'm livin and learnin - at a price. Cheers. Oggy.

Alhambra Se V Galaxy Ghia
Ogben Schmutzel replied to Ogben Schmutzel's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Interesting stuff - made me realise that I missed this from the spec of mine in my previous post. Head light washers Sports suspension Swivel front seats Speed controlled front wipers 2 remote keys Privacy glass in rear. Not sure what size the alloys are. The tyres are 215/55 R16 - is the R16 a clue? ;) Cheers. Oggy. -
I am not sure what 100g represents as a proportion of a full system, but if I recall correctly its going to be 15% or so in which case that is a far smaller leak than mine. I can't be sure but mine always seemed to finally pack up cooling on hot days. Maybe just coincidence or when the condenser is hotter or something, I really don't know. Anyway initially after the first gas loss in Sept last year it lasted all winter then the first warmish day in 2006 it went!! After that and recharging during warmish weather it lasted about a week. Sounds like your leak is much smaller than mine and I would be tempted to keep going with the top cans until it gets worse and easier to identify. You could try some of the leak detector sprays but they only work if you can access and see the point of the leak so you can see the bubbles! Regarding my condenser I am pretty sure that it had already been replaced at least once as the mod had been carried out that allowed access through the front of the car. Regards. Oggy.

Alhambra Se V Galaxy Ghia

I think they were on later models 03 or 53 I think. Oggy. -
Hi All, Thought the Ghia v Ghia X thread was interesting and thought I would ask about the Alhambra SE v Galaxy Ghia in terms of spec. Mine is a March 2002 SE on the log book but not badged SE. I don't know if its top of range for the SEAT or not. I don't think it is. Think the Galaxy Ghia wins hands down but what are the extras that the Ghia has that the SE doesn't? Here are the bits that my SE has got / not got. No CD player as standard - radio cassette instead No steering wheel radio controls No parking sensors No sunroof Heated Front Seats Climate Control - (but not with vents in the roof) Auto dipping rear view mirror Front fogs Sports seats

He is referring to the evaporator. To replace it requires the dash to be removed. I was told it takes a day and a half to replace an evaporator. With the associated labour costs that becomes expensive and the cost of the unit almost incidental. Some have done the job themselves and there is one excellent thread on how to do it with photo's if you feel brave enough and have alternative transport for a few days!! There is loads on here about the evaporator and dash removal, however have a read of the thread on my condenser problem. The SEAT dealer was right when he said that that my leak that could not be found was more than likely to be the condenser than the evaporator. Hope this helps. Oggy.

Hi All, Can I upload / attach to a message, a small 200K video file? Its a 3gp file created by a camera phone showing my leaking condenser under test. Cheers. Oggy.

Raymac - hope you had a nice holiday. I know you are desperate to get this sorted but you really would be better sticking to the thread that you started on this issue than asking the question on another thread. Three reasons spring to mind: 1) It will cause confusion for anyone trying to follow what is a condenser related thread, especially if a discussion starts on your topic intermingled with discussion on the original topic. 2) Once a few more messages are posted no one will ever spot your 'recirc solenoid' question in a 'condenser' thread. 3) Thus it can be annoying to the all, but particularly the original poster who suddenly finds that their original question/issue has been lost to another question. Some refer to this as hijacking a thread. No doubt there are other reasons too. Anyway no offence taken or intended on my part and I hope this is taken in the friendly way it is intended. Cheers. Oggy.
