  1. I just replaced the condenser on my '97 Galaxy. It was the cause of a slow leak because it was rusted! You will need to be re-gassed/oiled after the work is done - then you will be cool! If Ford do the work they will charge you 2 hours labour, plus gas, plus the part, plus VAT, around
  2. May be worth looking at the mulit-connector that the stalk switches plug into. It's under the plastic cover of the steering column. Could be it's worked loose.
  3. Dealer fitted new MAF - Vroom! Total cost of repair, including new air filter for good measure,
  4. Before I 'fixed' the vac hose!! I've never had a power problem. This fault is like a switch, no power at all i.e. it takes forever to get up to 30mph! As I understand, without a MAF signal to the ECU, the ECU goes into a 'limp' mode - Limp is an understatement! The loacl Ford stealer, I mean dealer, has a MAF on order for Wednesday at
  5. Took out the MAF for inspection - looks like the thing is toast, the tungston wire element is MISSING! New one comes in on Wednesday...
  6. SA Intruder, what is the procedure for testing an MAF? I can't find it on the TIS CD, but then again I can't get the 'find' to work at all !
  7. I noticed that a small tube had come away from the back of the air filter box (some sort of sensor feed?). Upon inspection I could see that the plastic spigot had snapped off and was still in the tube. I removed the air box to glue the spigot back on the box. The repair went well but now I've lost power when driving big time :( Other posts here throw up MAF as a possible culprit? My question, do I need to 'reset' the car after the MAF was removed with the air box? I can't figure out what I could have done to cause such a big problem  Any input welcomed.
  8. Just my 2 cents: Auto will only stay in 'auto' for fan position 3,4 & 5. Anything outside and 'auto' gets knocked off. Auto enables the air con compressor to cut in and hence all the air con circuits engage. Econ keeps the air con off and saves fuel. For Auto Temp Control to work there has to be sufficient air movement in the cabin in order for the ATC sensor to hold control. You may want to clean/blow out the ATC sensor. It's on the LHS of the console behind small fins.
  9. The wiring in the rubber boot between car and rear door is suseptable to fracture. Open that up and look for breaks.
  10. Now that I have the right amount of gas in the system (1.350kg) (Ford dealer told me it was 0.74kg!!!) penguins could live in it  Fred, thanks for the line on the TIS CD...one day I may be able to find things on it :(
  11. I looked at the TIS CD on this one and the procedure is a bit involved, and you will need access to re-gassing kit. Also there are 2 evaporators, front and back. You would be best to aquire a TIS CD before you consider this further, IMO.
  12. Add me as well - 1.9tdi GhiaX 1997. Problem is intermittent, started over a year ago and sounds terrible! Ford main dealer said they could not find a fault but greased the battery terminals which would help!!?? Said I had a weak cell :( Crap! It hasn't appeared to get any worse or effect cranking/starting in any way. I underastand a new starter motor to be around
  13. That's why I can't see mine - the front end was replaced a couple of years back when I failed to stop myself entering the rear end of a female Mondeo! Fred, can I take it that the info you posted above was from your car? or was it from the TIS CD? I have the car gassed by a friend in the A/C business and need to tell him what the full charge is. Does the TIS CD show any detail for the oil top off? Thanks. Nick
  14. I'm no expert but opion is once a MONTH to keep the seals and stuff flexible.
  15. Thanks Fred for such a speedy response! Now I've just come back from the car and I can't find a sticker regarding air con :( I have a sticker giving car weights and an Air Bag! sticker and just a yellow sticker with 1,6 on it. When you say 'slam panel' do you mean the door post between the front and back doors? Or where should I look? You also mention Oil. Where do I check the level/refill the oil? What oil is it? Sorry about all these questions. This forum is great. I ran a search a couple of years ago hoping someone had done something like this, but I didn't get any results back :( . Glad I found you all now :D
  16. Does anyone know the weight in kg (or pounds) of a full charge of A/C gas for a 1997 GhiaX?
  17. Just my 2 cents worth, but when I lost all the gas from my A/C 2 things happened; the compressor would not run (low presure sensor I guess), and the dispay would flash for 15/20 seconds! Once the A/C was re-gassed the display returned to normal.
