Can't help with the towbar but the sensor sounds like the parking sensor sounder- Do you have parking sensors? If you do this is probably the speaker/sounder for it. The tanl could be either an rear air condition unit if you have it or possiubly it's the bottom of the storage bin in the side panel. :(

Aux Heater 'time To Heat Up' Question
Bigjeeze replied to Mikef's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I think you're hoping for a bit much!! My Heating was knackered so I changed the Glow plug and it is now working - But it still takes around 10mins to produce decent heat - By the time I take my son to school and come back the temp gauge is between cold and Normal - and the car is starting to warm. Around a 3 mile trip. I think you need to give it a little longer than you are. -
On my Mk1 if you turn on both heated windows the Aux Heater Blower turns off - it's fine if you just have one screen on. Always done it ever since I had it from new (1997)

is this true or is it myth? i have just bought my gal and she is really bad on the old liquid lunch front, i thought my freelander was bad (diesel) she was doing around 250 ish on

The best I have managed so far is 625 before the warning light comes on. I don't know how far I could go after that. Mind you that's sticking to 60mph most of the time. Usually I can get between 350 410 miles up to the half way mark then the rest goes real quick! :D
-
And what are you going to do with all this extra, low cost, low consumption power then? Pull a train?

Why not try a VW dealer or a Seat dealer? SOmetimes they do parts that Frod don't (maybe becasue Fraud don't make anything except money!)
-
If that's true then we all have a problem don't we? My wife's car is a 1997 with 130K on the clock - the Aux heater works fine and doesn't smoke or sod a bout at all. My motors a 2001 - done around 85K miles and so far has had a new glow plug. What would a service do then ? :o

Depends which Galaxy you have. Mk1 it's under the ash tray MK 2 it's under the fuse box area.

Servicing Galaxy Myself
Bigjeeze replied to deadpool2e's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
If as listed, your car is a diesel it wont have plug leads. If the MPG is down try changing the air filter - and also befopre you change the oil give it a blast up the nearest fast road to clear all the sh*t out - thenj change the oil. That may help. -

How To Get Air From The Roof Vents
Bigjeeze replied to BrummyGit's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Once again my big mouth leads me in to trouble!! I checked my vents today and despite what I said warm air does come out of the vents in the roof. I suppose I hadn't really checked it properly before - mainly I suspect because I never sit in the back! Apologies for misleading anyone. BJ  -
Juba, On what basis are you saying that you have done 50 miles less? Oggy. I think Juba means that the car did 50miles to the tankful than normal. Which seems rather a lot to lose because of the heater. What do you guys think?

How To Get Air From The Roof Vents
Bigjeeze replied to BrummyGit's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
I have the full dual Climate control and my roof vents do not blow warm or hot. The heat comes from the front dash vents, the vent by the handbrake and the vents in the wheel arch bulges. -
Thanks Mr T - I'll try that and see what transpires Gary

Well my Gal had a non performing Aux Heater - SO after reading all the posts on here I went off and ordered a new glow plug from VW -

My manual does around 48mpg if I stick to 60 mph or around 44 if I stick to 70mph. If I don't care when I get somewhere and stick at 50mph I have had 56mpg. At 50mph in 6th I am only doing around 1400rpm! he damn things only just running!!

Thanks Greg - Any idea how I gewt to the bus bar to clean the connections?
-
Or maybe I am driving on the wrong side!!! :P Should it be the side with the wheel then? :D No it's not a left hand drive - the screen was replaced a couple of years ago but this is the first time I noticed it. Any ideas? :D

Can anyone please advise me. My Wife's Galaxy 1997 TDi seems to have a problem with the Heated front screen. When you turn it on the left hand side clears quickly but the right hand goes stripey and takes considerably longer to clear. So - is there a relay per side or something or is my wiondscreen (replaced by AW 2 years ago) knackered?

OIL TYPE USED - TDI ONLY
Bigjeeze replied to jkspoff's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Interesting Marcus - By the by - Are you a Chemist? or just a well informed reader? It's always wise to check the credentials of people making or rubbishing claims. I am not! -
Ok Here it is then - Unless you are using a vehicle for a business purpose and can offset the cost against overhead and generate or contribute to a profit it is a waste of money owning a half decent car of any flavour. I don't think that more than 5% of vehicle owners can actually cost justify the vehicle they have. Work it out - unless you are using it for a lot of miles it would ALWAYS be cheaper to use public transport. We all are really quite aware of what our vehicles cost us to run - we just don't like to think about it. I agree that yopu can successfully argue that one or another is cheaper or more efficent to run than another - but justify it's running costs? No chance. I don't drink or smoke , have no major vices - except my car. That's it!!!

Blimey this is all a bit serious! I think this is a swings & roundabouts one - It will depend on a number of factors - Age, Condition, (and the vehicles) whether financed or bought outright and indeed mileage and useage. As with all financial decisions you need to assess your personal situation not a generic one. I paid

Not really! You could get burnt. The Aux heater will operate when the temperature is low and assists the engine to produce heat as it doesn't produce enough to heat such a large interior. If your temperature gauge gets to normal fairly quickly and your heater works Ok then chances are everything is OK. If not then you may have a problem. I think though that the temperature of late hasn't been cold enough to make it kick in - but then again it does seem to vary from about 5 c to 10c Hope that helps a bit.
