Towing A Caravan
Bigjeeze replied to purplemadboy's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I don't tow anything with my 115 but I do know that at 60Mph in 6th the engine is doing around 1500 rpm - I'm not surprised it struggles! I think that Matt has hit this one on the head - Try towing at around 2000 rpm- which should give you 70 in 6th . Up hills you should drop down to 5th but maintain the revs. Worth a trial. At only 2K miles it probably isn't run in yet either! -
Fitting Mk2 Speaker Grilles
Bigjeeze replied to dipsomaniac's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
What do you want to do? If you want to remove them you need to take the door card off then either melt or cut the protuding plastic lugs off. If you want to re fit them - insert Grille and melt the lugs so that it can't come out again. In either case the hardest part of the job is getting the door card off. If you look on the history someone has kindly documented the proces of removing the MK2 card with pictures. Good Luck B) -
Sorry Petrol Guys
Bigjeeze replied to chromedome's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I bought my two TDi's through choice - I don't have slippers or a pipe, Only use airfix glue for sniffin and I lead a fairly normal life. I overtake in any lane that suits and after 250K Plus miles in 6 years have a clean licence, full no claims and still enjoy myself. I have a 1978 BMW R60/7 Boxer twin, a 1963 BSA 250 , I shoot , I am an archer, I use all sorts of toys - (which I fund with the savings from my TDi fuel consumption) . On the other hand - I don't care what anyone else thinks - I can think for myself - I don't need anyone else permission, approbation or approvals. Anyway got to go now the Missus is calling me to do the washing up. -
OIL TYPE USED - TDI ONLY
Bigjeeze replied to jkspoff's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
That's an interesting point - 120K miles is quite a lot for the wrong oil - the way I have read the situation up until now is that using the wrong oil will bugger up your engine in no time at all - 120K miles at average mileage is 8 years! Are we being mugged here or is this a one off - like the My granny smokes 100 fags a day and is 105? -
Have You Had.........
Bigjeeze replied to GSMGuy's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Curiously I see That the Airport Car co has around 150 Galaxy/Alhambra/Sharans - and if you look there are hundreds of others running around as taxi's both here and in Europe - And as most taxi's never use air con even if it is fitted then this seems like a bit of a non issue. I have a friend who runs a fleet of Limo's and has just retired his 6 Galaxys because they are not big enough for his work and although he prefers the Galaxy he has bought the Voyagers because they have more room. He considers the Galaxy the best in its class (he also has 2 previas which he likes too.) If I had a real choice I would like an Aston Martin but as I can't I am happy with my Galaxy -
Have You Had.........
Bigjeeze replied to GSMGuy's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Ok Mike you do have a point - but of the three Galaxy's I have owned which between them have covered in excess of 300K miles the only major issue was the air con on the latest one - so one model has a problem- the MK2 the rest ...fine. I have had worse on other cars. Let me put it another way - despite the faults no one apart from you is giving up on the Galaxy! -

Bigjeeze replied to GSMGuy's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
It's a machine like any other - if you treat it right it behaves itself but sometimes faults occur. Nothing on my Galxy's has ben extraordinary or unique. Or it must be said overly expensive bar the Air Con. -
Who was it said "Lies damn lies and statistics"? The survey is not balanced because these vehicles are all in different classes - Yes they are all MPV's but what a variation. I think my two current Galaxies are great - I have had three and although there are a few irritations I am very very pleased. I didn't pay full; price for them I paid

Well Pasty Boy - I could be completely wrong but I think you may have the dreaded pre seizure of wipers that is so common on the Galaxy. I had mine go in a similar way - whereby they started not quite reaching thew edge and then not stopping where they used to. The wiper spindles seem to lose their lubrication and start to seize up - and for a while the motor copes until the day it packs up. I would suggest checking the spindles whilst the wpiers are running - if you carefully put your hand on the base by the spindel and it feels hot then that may be your problem. Of course it may be an electrical fault but have a look anyway. There are lots of threads on this forum that deal with this issue. Cheers

Cos Ford neither designed nor built the Galaxy! It's VW's fault. :D

You could also check a VW or Seat dealer - When I needed a speaker grille Fraud quoted for a whole door card @

You Work I Nthe Galaxy Design Centre
Bigjeeze replied to greg_68's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Mostly just a totally reliable car - Reliable Air COn Drop links that last for at least 50K miles Wipers that won't seize Gear cables that don't take 4 hours to fit Cheaper more easily available tyres. Thats all  -
Kinda makes you want to stay at home don't it? Still - nothing ventured nothing gained !!!
-
Thanks Guys Yes it's the MK11 with the double din sized stereo - so I assume that it has no external or remote amp - Therefore I need to check the cables in the rubber boot. I'll let you knoiw how I get on Thanks again GAry
-
Hi all My stereo still has the problem - I have been told it sounds like an amplifier problem called motor boating - SO where is the amplifier - is it integral with the radio unit or is it separate - and if so where is it? All help gratefully recevied!!
-
Seems like we are all agreed then? Whatever it is - when it explodes there is a lot of hot air!! :(
-
I would like to add that although I have no technical knowledge of the propertyies or otherwise of exploding gas cylinders or tanks - I do know that most fireman whilst brave resourceful and thank god - there - are in no way experts in any field other than putting out the resulting fires. :D They are not trained or accredited in any way as to the safety suitability or construction of LPG or any other tanks or resovoirs - You will notice - if you have LPG that you dont require a firemans certificate - but you do from the recognised body. B) Firemen are wonderful - but not usually qualified in any real sense. Anyway my diesel is fine - and as for driving a bomb around - go by plane - they do go bang!
-
I agree that regulation and accreditation will help to ensure quality - although so far my experience of these has been that the "tradesman" just uses this as a means to radically jack up his prices. I don't think the BIO fuels or LPG are the future - Hydrogen is the fuel of the future but it's too dangerous and expensive to mass produce. so for the forseeable future it is still going to be oil based - it's just going to cost more. Government cannot deal with this issue objectively - because too many jobs are involved in the motor and transport businesses. We all know that the majority of freight should go by rail - it doesn't - We all know that mass transit systesm should be the norm - they aren't. When we finally get round to looking at what's best for the whole of society and not just for a segment - then we can look to solve fuel problems. At the end of that debate - you will then have to find the replacement for the taxes levied - so motoring in whatever format is not going to get cheaper - it will just evolve.

Ebuyer Verses Halfords.
Bigjeeze replied to Ogben Schmutzel's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Without making this a personal issue - you do have a long long way to go to convince me that small business should be supported when they don't support you. High prices huge margins and poor service are not only coming from Halfords and the like. If you give a better service and a better price you will get the business -never mind the web. It seems to me that too many small business feel that they are owed a living - and that because they have risked all and invested - possibly their home - they feel they should get rich quick. Quality & service with a good price are all I ever want. I have had no problems buying from the web - I buy from Ebuyer and many others - so far no problem and as has been said even if the service dropped - at half price you can afford to buy a spare!! -

Hi all I have the original 5000 RDS EON in my Galaxy and have been suffering from a noisy speaker - I changed what I thought was the broken one in the osr door but that hasn't cured it. By using the balance and fade I can sort of isolate it to the front right hand speakers - so I thought maybe the system is kaput - so I went on to ebay bid for a few lost two and won two! Brake Pedal Traveling To The Floor
Bigjeeze replied to michael.galaxy's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
After checking to see where the problem appears to be I would go fo a bleed. The worst that can happen is you waste a little fluid - the best you'll cure it. It sounds like you didn't clamp the hoses and bleed so you have air in the system. It may be best to go for a complete fluid change to ensure no dirt gets into the ABS . It's definitely a cheaper option than a new Master Cylinder! -
Pete do a search on wipers - This is a common issue with the Galaxy - there is a cure that doesn't require large amounts of money for Mr Ford!!
