  1. Just an alternative to Ford, it may be cheaper in other places. Is it possible that the Ford SD oil is still semi-synthetic, as it states it has synthetic technology and doesn't specifically say fully synthetic ? Anyway it seems either will surfice. http://www.commaoil.com/Product%20Pages/Oi...es/dieselpd.htm
  2. Ford SD 505.01 says semi-synthetic on bottle. http://www.commaoil.com/Product%20Pages/Oi...es/dieselpd.htm Diesel PD 5w-40 Fully Synthetic - Ultimate Protection - Maximum Performance Suitable for high performance diesel engines - including turbo charged. Specially formulated to meet the needs of VW/AUDI/SEAT/SKODA/FORD GALAXY diesel cars fitted with the "Pumpe Duse" - PD or unit injector engines. Ultimate protection in all conditions - extremes of heat and cold. Fully synthetic to help keep engine clean and prolong engine life. Helps reduce emissions. Service Classification: ACEA B3 API CF Meets requirements of: VW 505.01, FORD WSS M2C917-A, VW 505.00/VW 500.00, MB229.1
  3. Just about to do an oil change and discovered this oil at my local car maintenance store, 505.01 spec PD specific oil,
  4. Around town we get 35-38 mpg, on a long steady run upto 50mpg, but depends on driving conditions, i.e. constant speeds and if AC is switched on. Warm weather with AC switched off is the most economical. We are impressed by the overall fuel economy of such a heavy car.
  5. Most cameras are there as a speed reduction visual item only, a lot are inactive, they can flash even if they contain no film. Only one in four drivers flashed by a speed camera has had to pay a fine, a major motoring report from the RAC claims. It said most of the speeding drivers never receive a fine in the post, while a minority manage to escape conviction. The vast majority of accidents are caused by poor driving - tail gating, cutting up, overtaking innappropriately etc. Speed is rarely a cause of an accident, although it will exacerbate an accident that happens for other reasons. I believe there is value in cameras at accident black spots - well advertised and with clear notofication of the speed limit. But cameras that are being placed just to enforce arbitrary speed limits bring the system into disrepute and do little to reduce accidents. Like all laws, the speed limits need to be interpreted flexibly and treated as guidance except where there is a clear need for strong limits - eg outside schools, in heavily built up areas etc. One of my tasks in my job is documenting the aftermath of road traffic collisions, and I tell you now, there is nothing worse.
  6. Had you already sent the above item to the buyer, and therefore not receieved payment through PayPal ?
  7. Yeah, ok, I made a mistake ! PayPal is ok, I've never had any problems with them, but yes I agree they do charge too much, and sometimes payment can take a while to come through, but I just wish there was some other company as reliable but cheaper to use, I know of Nochex and others like it, but just like ebay, Paypal seem to have the market cornered. If everyone uses it, then you have to too, to enable easy sales etc.
  8. Only a few quid cheaper, plus I like the ease and security using PayPal too.
  9. Just got one on the 'buy it now' option
  10. Heres a supplier: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PELA-6000-OIL-CHANGE...1QQcmdZViewItem
  11. Has anyone ever used something like this before, http://www.pelaproducts.com/HowToUse2.htm. It allows easy removal of old oil from the dip stick access. It looks a lot easier than grovelling around under the car and getting oil up your sleeve ! I have read an independant review on a VW tdi club and they say it can actually remove more old oil than the conventional method. The container holds upto 6 litres. If its as easy as described then it might be worth the money. Anyone had any experiences of it or something like it ? Does anyone know if the dipstick pipe has a sharp bend as this will prevent the extractor tube from reaching the oil pan, or is it straight to the bottom ?
  12. 1. James 2. West Yorkshire 3. 2001 Galaxy Tdi, 115, Ghia, Blue 4. 3 years 5. Yes, but will keep this one for years first, local dealer invited to new launch of Galaxy in July, so may be tempted then. 6. A few hundred quid on usual, but warranty covered most of repairs, mainly drive shafts and A/C. 7. Local law enforcement !
  13. My old Mondeo used to do exactly that, it turned out to be a blocked fuel filter, new one fitted, all was ok.
  14. Despite all the issues we read on this forum on a regular basis, plus the problems I've had with mine, I still think the Galaxy is the best car I've ever owned, and currently the best in its class. Reading other forums about other vehicles I find that its very unlikely to ever get a car thats totally reliable in every way, even the Japanese stuff goes wrong. Its interesting to see if everyone still actually gets on with theirs, despite the reliability issues of certain components and if they would invest their hard earned cash in another one. It seems to get to a point after several years that the Galaxy suddenly becomes very reliable after most of the weak spots have been ironed out.
  15. If its definately not the rear washer pipe, then try a water test, by sitting in the car and getting someone to fire water at the whole area until the leak appears obvious, remove carpet first. I did this on a Mondeo I once had and it was pouring in from a door seal that didn't appear all that obvious and not even a dealer could locate it ! :5:
  16. Get a decent warranty quick ! :47:
  17. Love it, if only more people had a sense of humour like that, :D Ebay just gets better !
  18. Check out 'my tyres' for competitive pricing, they have recommended fitters too, just type into google so I'm not advertising a company or anything. Very cheap.
  19. I have never driven such an easy mile eater, even the top end stuff doesn't compare. I drove one of the new S class Mercs the other day, 68k quids worth, it drove nicely and was quick but when I got back in the Gal it still seemed somehow superior and easier to drive. I thinks its down to the higher driving position and long wheel base. The only other car I've driven recently that I would love to own is the new Range Rover Sport, its a gem of car, and seems to do everything very very well, with bags of interior space. But unfortunately out of my price range by a large margin. :(
  20. Just spotted this one on a well known trader web site ! Mk2 tdi. Galaxy, Silver, 83k miles, FSH, all Ghia refinements, 12mths MOT, 7mths tax, excellent condition inside & out, genuine reason for sale . . . . (private)
  21. Galaxy unrelated, but here goes, I have just bought some 16" alloys off good old ebay, they have tyre sizes 205,55,R16 and are for my wifes Renault Scenic, the existing wheels (non alloy) are currently 195,65,R15. I know they'll fit as they are from same year and model vehicle, however, are there any other things that may effect the car from the original wheel sizes that I should know about or will there be virtually no difference other than cosmetic ? I would appreciate any advice, thanks. Oh, wife can't understand why she would want a new set of alloys.......as she says the car already has 4 wheels !
  22. I was equally surprised when mine passed last week. Maybe they mature with age, like a nice wine...... :D
  23. U oh..................
  24. That looks excellent, making changing oil regularly a doddle. No climbing about underneath taking off tray and undoing sump plugs etc, I want one ! Any idea how much they are ?
