Question For Factory Fitted Sat Nav Owners
jkspoff replied to dulux72's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Its GPS, therefore your postion will be calculated from satelite positions, not from the amount of RPM on the wheels. The wheel measurements are only for calculating the time of arrival in relation to your current speed.i.e. sat in traffic jams etc ;) -
CD Autochangers could soon become a thing of the past. According to Visteon, a major components supplier, USB ports will start to appear on cars in 2006. The idea is that users can connect a memory stick to their in car CD player and have instant access to hundreds of tracks. The clever bit is that the CD player will see the device just like an Autochanger, so drivers will be able to select tracks via their normal audio controls. For reasons of safety, the USB port will be kept away from the CD player, possibly in the glovebox. No-one wants drivers fiddling with a memory stick while driving down the motorway.

OIL TYPE USED - TDI ONLY
jkspoff replied to jkspoff's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I definately get more mpg from using the correct oil, now that I've done it myself, knowing that the previous oil was wrong. I would say on average I have noticed from the trip computer 4-6 mpg more, noticeable on the regular journeys I make to work and back. -
Since having my centre caps destroyed by the main dealers etc, I have invested in a new set, I always take them off with the 'tool' before dropping it off at a garage. I mentioned to my main dealer a while ago about this special 'tool' and they didn't even believe me ! So I took the service manager outside and showed him where its kept......he was gob smacked, 15 years he had worked there, and he had no idea about this tool. I don't believe there is any special training whatsoever on individual vehicle differences.... :) if there is, its very poor.

OIL TYPE USED - TDI ONLY
jkspoff replied to jkspoff's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The sump plug doesn't need to be replaced every time on the Galaxy, only if the built on washer appears crushed from previous over tightening. The Gal will take 4.3 litres of oil, I use the Ford PD oil, 505.01 spec. ( -
I do agree that these surveys are worth something. At least it may be looked at by the manufacturers and possibly they will pull their socks up when it comes to producing their next replacement models. Maybe just maybe they actually listen occasionally to the people buying these things........but I doubt it ! I believe this survey to be largest of its kind in the UK, however, does it actually represent a true cross section of buyers, or is it just a certain type of person who fills out these surveys, therefore making the results appear unrealistic.

Errmmmm, what more can I say, other than it appears that often polls such as these are not the best representation of a product, as they are often only completed by a very small minority of usually disgruntled customers !
-
Dealers know absolutely diddly squat about the Galaxy. They have always insisted that mine should have normal oil, they insisted it was 60,000 miles for cambelt change, they insisted it was OK to lift it on the sills, they insisted it took 5 litres of oil, etc etc.......NEVER EVER believe anything they tell you, always double check first. How can they get away with being sooooo useless? Its just a good job I ignored all the above things and got it done correctly else where. Usually DIY.

OK, now I've seen this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-GALAXY-SAT-NAV-...1QQcmdZViewItem How easy/difficult will it be to actually fit it to a Galaxy without it currently installed ? Has anyone else any experience of this ? I know this has been covered before, but I can't find it under the search option. Thanks

OIL TYPE USED - TDI ONLY

Ford SD semi-synthetic oil for PD engines, -
Yes, its a great sense of achievment to DIY, knowing its been done properly and not over filled ! Now for the pollen filter, done this bit before, so thats a task for the weekend. Thanks for your help.
-
OK, thats done, with the proper oil, filter etc. It was a bit difficult getting to the bolts holding the undertray on, without it being jacked up, but once that was off it acted as a drip catcher. The only thing I didn't/couldn't replace was the sump seal washer, I couldn't get the old one off, it looked like new though, so next time I'll make sure its replaced. I'm sure its the first time the proper oil has been used, as the dealer tried to tell me that it was the standard Ford oil used by all Ford cars, but I got the correct type, it just goes to show that most Galaxys are driving around with the wrong oil in. :P
-
Excellent, thanks for the advice and diagram, I will have a go this weekend, weather permitting ! at least I'll know that the correct oil has been used and quantity, and the sills haven't been crushed, and there aren't mucky marks all over the interior ! ;)
-
Thanks for your advice. Ok, I've made my mind up then to do a bit of DIY.....what will I need to safely do basic items, like oil changes etc. I have all the necessary tools for basics, but what requirements for getting underneath it......?
-
Do you use a signed statement ? If you do could I have a copy please, or take a look at the way you've worded it.......
-
I have been told by several garages that they only have the 4 arm lifts, and that they can only lift it on the sills, is there a garage that uses a different type ?
-
After spending

I routinely went to my local garage to refuel (not panic buying!) and there was a huge queue, I waited and filled up, only half way through filling did I notice that the price was
-
I would be very interested to see where you get with this, as I too have been trying to find out...... :(
-
I have just got back after filling up the Gal at the garage. There are people down there stock piling fuel !! One guy had his boot open with no less than 10 fuel containers, the big army type ones. There was also a significant tail back forming down the road. Is there much truth in the rumour that fuel deliveries will be blocked on Wednesday ?? I am happy with my tank full, I won't be stock piling it !
-
Some would even suggest diluting the unleaded with 65 litres of diesel to fill, this would be sufficient to burn efficiently........
-
Definately a warranty item, that is covered by the manufacturer, upto 3 years. As mine were replaced by Ford free.
-
Exact same thing happened to me, both drive shafts replaced under warranty. That is almost certain what it is. The warranty company paid out, it was about
