OK, lets just say that we had had enough of all the problems with our Galaxys, I know most of us like them a lot and would probably buy another, but what else is on the market that comes close to what the Galaxy/Alhambra/Sharan has to offer ? You can discount the likes of Peugeots/Citroens/Renaults as these people carriers are like driving a mini bus, what I mean is something else that is so car like to drive, yet huge inside like the Gals ????? I've just spent the last hour on autotrader web site looking to see if there is anything else, but I am struggling to come up with anything. I'm not getting rid of it, I just wondered.......

Fitting a new Aircon Condenser
jkspoff replied to jkspoff's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Sounds like a big job, is there no way it can removed from under the car ? Is the condensor seperate to the radiator ? -
Does anyone know what work is required for putting a new condensor in, i.e. which parts have to removed and can it be accessed from above or below, or does the front bumper need removing etc ?
-
I've done most other bits and pieces for a service on the Gal, but I have never attempted to change the fuel filter, how often does it need changing and where is it ? Is it easy ? Thanks.

How much did the MAF cost, did you fit it yourself ? Theres one here on good old ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Ford-Galaxy-Air-...1QQcmdZViewItem

Fingers crossed for you, I had a similar issue with a Peugeot a few years back, the car was 4 months out of warranty but because I could prove it was a missed item on my last major service they did the repairs and recovered the costs from the manufactuer. So its not unheard of, however I believe it will be entirely at the discretion of the dealer. As you can see from http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...pic=2227&st=180 there is a lot of issues surrounding your problem, mines going in tomorrow for complete failure repairs. I recommend a third party warranty as soon as possible to cover you for such issues.

Well, here goes again, the Galaxy is off into the garage again tomorrow for air con diagnostics and hopefully full repair of the system for the third time in as many years. Fortunately my third party warranty will be taking the brunt of the cost, but I have absolutely no confidence in any garage to diagnose and repair long term the galaxy air conditioning system. I have to use a network garage as the warranty company won't pay dealer prices. Anyway, I should only need to pay 20 quid excess all being well. At least if it lasts another few years then it'll be worth it. I can't understand how it can be so difficult to reliably repair, there appears to be a leak in the system, diagnosed by Ford as the condensor, but this seems to have a knock on effect with the rest of the system faulting, through seized compressor etc. Warranty company insists that repairing garage must provide a 12 month warranty on all work carried out, so that means a years worth of cold air at least ! If it makes anyone more comfortable in the thought that apparently the most unreliable part of any average family car is firstly the electrical system and secondly the air conditioning system if fitted, according to a recent reliability survey. So maybe its not just us VW, SEAT and Ford Galaxy owners that are suffering ! :D Nearly 12,000 views for this post, now that must say something about this vehicles A/C !!

So where do we take our cars with failing air con ?? Not a main dealer as they charge you your house, not a network garage because they've never touched a Galaxy before, yet alone the air con system, not even an air con specialists can diagnose leaking systems unless its gushing out........so where does it leave the thousands of Galaxy owners up and down the country with inevitable eventual complete failure of their system. Where do we take it to get it fixed ???? :D Where did you take yours (anyone) ?? -

Exactly, we all have our own chosen professions in life where we should excel, and I like to think I do in mine, but when it comes to some motor mechanics I really have my doubts. -
Climate Control Not Cooling
jkspoff replied to Alhambra's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
My Climate Control A/C has now been to 3 garages for diagnosis, including a main Ford dealer, my warranty company will not pay main dealer prices, so now its going to a network garage - Nationwide, an approved warranty direct garage where the invoice will go straight to the warranty company for payment. It needs according to Ford: 1. New Compressor (even though compressor only 18mth old) 2. New Condensor (as its leaking from there apparently) 3. Regassing (obviously). So all in all Ford quoted -

Climate Control
jkspoff replied to Ogben Schmutzel's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
You mean to say that you air con actually works ! -
 OK, thats it !!! as posted earlier, air con failure for the third time in 3 years, this time its big bucks, had it diagnosed at 2 garages, Ford have told me it needs a new compressor and a new condensor, even though it had a new compressor 18 months ago, total cost

UNBELIEVABLE ! ;) The hottest week of maybe the whole year, and guess what for the 3rd year in a row A/C has completely packed in. Had it regassed for 50 quid last month and after was blowing icy cold air. Now the climate control panel is flashing and no cold air............I've just about had enough of this repeated failure. ;) Booking it in for a full system check, fortunately I have a warranty that covers A/C, but I need to pay the 65 quid plus VAT for the investigative work. The only problem is if they find no problem with it then they will charge another 40 quid to regas it, making it over 100 quid. ;)

Where We Are Going For The Meet And When
jkspoff replied to mumof4's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
If we can also organise the bloke from angeltuning to come and do a block booking discount on re-mapping the ECUs as per other post then count me in too. http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?showtopic=8655 -
When my wife takes the Gal to the Supermarket I fasten tyres around it, like a boat, as thats where all the damage occurs !
-
I have looked into Angel Tuning recently as per earlier pole this year, I was very tempted by the increase in power as a mate of mine had his Mercedes done with significant improvements, but the wife stopped me ! One thing I was curious about is how does it put the power down when cornering, the biggest reason Ford/VW do not output the higher power on these models is due to the 'wavy' handling when cornering with 150 bhp plus, without the wider tyres and harder suspension fitted to the newer 150bhp Galaxys...? Mumof4, how about we arrange for angeltuning to attend the meeting this summer and see what block booking discount we could get for numerous re-maps at the same time ?

Replacing Key Remote Batteries
jkspoff replied to jkspoff's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks nik, I will go and have a go. -
If I change the batteries in my remote key fob will it loose the immobiliser code ? Plus on a completely seperate note, whilst changing the air filter I dropped one of the filter housing screws through the engine bay, I believe its kicking about on the engine tray, do you think it'll be ok down there until the next time it comes off, rather than messing about trying to fish it out ?

Have you had chance to use yours yet, it's excellent.

Extended Warranties/ Warranty Providers
jkspoff replied to lydanial's topic in Dealer Service and Reliability (Galaxy)
Mine is with these guys, http://www.warrantydirect.co.uk/ , about 200 quid a year. -
Just got my Pela oil extractor as first post, http://www.pelaproducts.com/HowToUse2.htm and done an oil change. You could actually hear the Pela sucking the last few drops of hot oil from the sump, then I sucked out all the oil from the filter housing and replaced filter plus new 'O' rings, filled with new 505.01 oil and poured the used oil back into the empty 4.5 litre container, it had drained out every bit of the old 4.5 litres of oil. Superb and simple design, I didn't even get changed from my normal clothes, as its clean, straight forward and easy. I have never seen the Galaxy oil so clear before on the dip stick after changing. A great product meaning no more grovelling around under the car and removing engine tray etc. Highly recommended. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PELA-6000-OIL-CHANGE...1QQcmdZViewItem

OIL TYPE USED - TDI ONLY
jkspoff replied to jkspoff's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Yes, it would have been useful to have a spare 0.5 litres for topping up, at least I know I can add all the container without overfilling, if only Ford used these containers it would stop them overfilling ! I have some spare 505.01 somewhere for topping up, although it hasn't dropped hardly any in a year. I suspect they are made at the same oil refinery.
