Took this picture this morning travelling through Cumbria from the West coast and thought I'd share it with you all. It was a fantastic road and a lovely place to stay.

Well said Willie, I couldn't have put it better myself having suffered this issue on my last Gal.

Galaxy 1.9 Tdi Overheating/boiling Up
jkspoff replied to groover1973's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Mine was remapped if that is the one you are referring to, however I had the remap removed and the original factory mapping restored due to the overheating issues. I was would strongly recommend anyone else considering remapping for extra performance to stay well clear. I know someone with an Audi R8 diesel that had it remapped and blew the turbo within 3 weeks resulting in warranty being void and a bill or over -
With nearly 38,000 views on this post and over 400 posts I wonder if we should now collate it all together and forward a petition to Ford/watchdog for investigation into the A/C faults on these models ?

Can I still get it for
-
Just get a set of G-max -50mm springs, I have these fitted and they are excellent at improving the handling and looks, not expensive either.
-
I used to have the 115bhp Galaxy and now have a 130bhp Galaxy, I have noticed quite a difference in the extra power of the 130, so I would check out the usual bits and pieces on yours, e.g. MAF, vacuum hoses etc
-
My A/C is very useful in winter to blow dry air throughout the car and keep it dehumidified, preventing the cars interior from steaming up, so it does still work with the heaters for this very reason. Especially when a family full of people get in from the pouring rain.

I wonder why they had that off ? Probably the same reason they knocked off my air tube hose ! -

Here is the pic of the vacuum reservoir and tube, they are common to break off or work loose, the part might look slightly different on yours as this is a new part that has been modified with a heat shield on the later models by VW. -

Hang on I will post a picture of it. This is a regular fault and it can be seen under the engine cover at the top. -
Battery Drain Problems
jkspoff replied to brawlski's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
This might sound daft but I had a high drain on the battery and had to call out the AA when it ran flat, it is embarrassing to admit but it turned out to be the rear 12volt socket had a portable DVD player plugged in to it !! Have you checked the rear 12 volt socket ? -

Check that the vacuum hose is still attached to the vacuum reservoir at the front of the engine, next to the oil filter. They are prone to breaking off when grease monkeys get under the bonnet during servicing. Cheap to replace, but do stop the turbo working properly if not attached properly. -
2004 1.9 Tdi 130ps Galaxy Oil Change
jkspoff replied to Brash's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Yep, the oil pumps work a treat, I can do an oil change without even getting my hands dirty, in less than 20 minutes. Its also great for sucking out the oil from the filter housing etc. The oil container has a measure on the side to show you have removed every last drop. Does not work on the petrol variant though, as the pipe does not reach to the bottom of the sump. -

Knocking Noise In Footwell
jkspoff replied to llaurencebenjaminmartin's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The drop links are DIY and cost hardly anything to replace, the thought that it might be these after you've spent hundreds on the suspension is worrying ! -

I take it you've changed the obvious drop links that always fail on the Galaxies then ? -
Noise When Turning Steering Wheel
jkspoff replied to John George's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
It was the alternator pulley, had a local garage change it and fit a new one, it solved the problem. BUT whilst changing it they inadvertently knocked out and snapped the vacuum pipe to the vacuum reservoir, didn't notice it until I tried to drive home with no turbo. Took it back and they have fitted a complete replacement vacuum reservoir for free as the connecting pipe is under pressure and needs a firm secure fitting into the top section (VW part now beeen modified by VW with a metal heat shield for some reason). So anyway, problem solved with noisy steering, it was the belt slipping as the wheel turned putting the alternator pulley under pressure. Having looked at the part they took off, it had sheared off. The engine is quieter now too without the tapping noise. Cost more than fitting it and buying the parts myself but jobs done and guaranteed for 12 months. -
Nothing wrong with Mondeos ! My ST220 estate I used to have was excellent, apart from only being able to manage 235 miles on a full tank ! but I should have known that before I bought it !!
-
Drives great now that I've had the wheels properly balanced and the alternator pulley fixed ! Its lowered but the wheels never catch on the arches and it doesn't look daft, as there is still a good few inches between the arches and wheels. When its fully loaded with people and luggage it sits well on the road and handles superb compared to the standard set up. A bargain all round, although I would say that, to justify doing it ! My wife still can't understand why I lowered it and put bigger wheels on, but maybe its just a boy thing !! By the way, it has 19" RS6 style wheels fitted with 235 35 R19 Avon ZZ3 reinforced tyres, and -50mm G-max springs.

Noise When Turning Steering Wheel
jkspoff replied to John George's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I was told by the grease monkey at Ford when I mentioned about the alternator pulley that it was highly unlikely to be this, so I doubt that they even checked it. They even made out it was to do with non-standard wheels, even though I've had non-standard wheels on for over a year.
