  1. Try this tyre size convertor old/new tyres. Your change should be fine as the percentage is minimal. I think that you have to change the wheels (rims) as well, not just the bigger tyres on the old, small rims.
  2. At 50 mph in this weather on A1M 72 mpg is indeed possible in a TDi.
  3. With an engine oil change every year or 10 000 miles it should be a good car. If you buy, change oil, air, pollen and fuel filters; oil and brake fluid and off you go. Are the tyres good? They are
  4. It can be normal to have some steam coming from the cap if the engine has just warmed up when you remove it. Milky scum (emulsion) comes if you do lots of cold, short runs like the school run or commuting only 10 miles or less. You need a long, hot drive e.g. a motorway trip. Change the oil with a good PD 10W/40 oil every 10 000 miles or less at least once a year.
  5. Diesels are noisy with no sound muffling and oil filler cap off!
  6. I think you mean "should it flash"? No it shouldn't. Flashing indicates a problem. Turn ignition to "on" but do not start engine, kneel down and put your ear to each parking sensor front and rear; they shold click if they are OK. Silence = faulty (or faulty controller if none click).
  7. Most people say they don't work. The buyer should have saved their money. Have you changed the air filter, fuel filter and pollen filter?
  8. There is one sensor on one side at the front and one sensor on one side at the back. Some people seem to need VAGCOM to reset. Others disconnect battery for 30 minutes [remember radio code!]. But it should reset automatically.
  9. Read the post above yours called "What to check before buying a new car". Try to get a Mk II Ghia or a Mk I Ghia X. Climate control is great, when it works. Metallic paint is nice to have, 7 seats, not 6, diesel not petrol, 115 bhp or 130bhp if money allows.
  10. Says 075 type on this website Try batteries says 075 too, but buy a good quality [expensive] one!
  11. Comma PD diesel is a good economic oil from motor factors. I think Halfords do a PD oil now, not too sure.
  12. Scroll down on the home page and use the Mark III specific area !
  13. I bought some transfers from eBay. Like Airfix transfers. Right shape and size, around
  14. Yes, those are the right sensors - were
  15. Find out what model it should be - look through similar Galaxy windows! And get a correct one from eBay/
  16. Latest possible TDI diesel with Ghia trim and metallic paint. Long MOT. Good tyres. Read the FAQs page.
  17. Trip comp is easy - pressing the end button steps through engine running time (but resets after 2 hours of engine off), average speed, average MPG, instantaneous MPG, distance travelled on journey. Hold bottom button in for 5 seconds or more and it all resets. Just "blip" bottom button and you move to "the memory" figures or trip 2. This is cumulative and resets after 99 hours or 9999 miles or if you manually reset it, giving USEFUL average MPG and average speed, total miles and total time.
  18. You may be surprised, but is brake light switch working ok? Brings up all sorts of alarms on Mk II !
  19. You should spend a few days reading the threads on the "Technical Issues" and read the FAQs (over 60 FREQUENTLY asked questions!) Faults! You bet! Aux heater, alternator pulley, wires in doors, aircon, heaters, on and on.
  20. Is everything turned off at night? Try one night to disconnect the battery (hope you know the radio code)and reconnect it in the morning, set the clock too. If all is well it's a wiring fault, if it fails to start it's a battery fault.
  21. On the end of the left hand stalk, you have at SET push button, this is used to switch the cruise ON at THAT speed, and a RES push button which will RESUME that speed after you have braked, "clutched" or accelerated. Whilst in CRUISE, after SET, you can speed up by pressing + or slow down using -.
  22. Do you not have a handbook?
  23. You could always buy your own 5 l. plastic "can" of 505.01 spec (usually says PD on it). Even Halfords have PD oil or find a Comma PD oil at a motor factors.
  24. Add plenty of screenwash/antifreeze. When the weather is mild or water melted, listen to see if you can here the motor for the rear washer buzzing when you push the wiper control. Maybe the motor's bust.
