edatelder replied to TimG's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Halfords and several other shops have the WRONG guides to bulbs. The dual filament is needed. -
Click on the underlined link, called "mirror". It goes to a previous thread that covered everything.

Can anyone help me out with the position of this yellow wire? It would be great if anyone with a 5000 rds radio could whip it out, have a look at the wires on back, note the position of the yellow one relative to the purple and tell me. Thank you.

The new Argos catalogue has two RAC car fault readers in it. Will thy work?

Car Battery Chooser (click on this link) Suggests 017 (90Ah) for Mk1 and 096 (72Ah) for Mk2.

When you tried to "jumpstart" the car, where you pushing it up and down the road, or using two thick copper cables with big crocodile clips on each end - one red, one black? That should have worked, pushing probably won't. If you charge it for twelve hours, then reconnect the battery, it should start in the morning to go to Halfords. Let us know.

Looks like battery. A battery should have 12 - 12.5V from it with engine off. Alternator should supply about 14.5 V at 1500 rpm engine running. Most car parts factors or autoelectricians will check it for you for free. Question is, how will you start it to get there? Have you a friend with jump leads?

Try it with 7 people in it, or 5 people plus luggage. The ride height will be lower! -

I've just changed my 02 Gal radio from a Model 5000 NE with serial no M010557 part no YM21-18K876-JB to Model 5000RDS EON serial no M129525 part number 96AP(or 98AP)-18K876-BC. The two black plugs swapped over easily, whilst I was changing over the central yellow plug the yellow wire came adrift. A purple wire is on pin no.1 of the 6 pins. Does anyone know where the yellow wire should go? This diagram doesn't help much.ford radio wiring diagrams What are the yellow and purple wires for? Illumination, AVC (automatic volume control) or what? Everything appears to work OK.

Front Sidelight Cluster Replacement

The Mk 2 has two torx screws at the bottom. They are hard to undo. A long torx screwdriver is needed. -
How do you mean? Off the car, as a water heater for a boat or caravan?

I had one of those and had to change both fans over time as they stopped working. It was a tight fit but DIY was possible. They do spin when you turn the aircon on. I recall a large resistor on the back or bottom on them. That could be corroded with salt spray.

Mystery Yellow Switches
edatelder replied to edatelder's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks, Mirez. Probably explains why I have a permanent air bag fault warning light on and the warning message each time I start. I will try to replace the broken connector or simply use an electrical cable conection block to join the wires together. -
Gal MkII TDi 2002 - does anyone know what the two yellow plastic spring loaded switch type thingys are under the driver's seat? One is mounted vertically with a blue, a brown and a black wire to it. The other is mounted further back and horizontally with a white and a black wire. This one is broken on mine with a couple of springs exposed.

Just to share some good news. I've fixed my parking sensor system after about a year of it playing up. A VAGCOM diagnosed the left middle rear sensor as faulty, this was confirmed by it not "clicking". I got one off ebay from Portugal for about

Which Antifreeze To Use?
edatelder replied to Keanu's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I found my antifreeze container today. It is Comma Xstream Red, recommended by Ford, Seat, Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda. So should be good for Galaxys. I think red/orange concentrated anitifreeze turns to what looks like pink when it's mixed with water. I'm revising what I said on its life though. They recommend a change every 5 years (green was every 2 years).
