What age and trim level for your Gal? All face-lifted cars have ABS and most of the original versions also had ABS. Trace brake pipes under bonnet to find ABS pump is maybe the easiest way to tell if you have it fitted - plus the ABS warning lamp on dashboard should light up for a few seconds when you first turn the ignition key to start up. No noise from my steering - perhaps your rack mounting bushes are worn and the rack itself moves a little each time you move the wheel? How many miles has it done?

Welcome - boy the salesmen really know how to talk c@*p. All3 are built at the same factory in Portugal and use components of the same (dubious?) quality. Ford don't offer the sports suspension whereas SEAT offer it as standard on the SE trim - check www.seat.co.uk for info. VW are meaner with their trim levels - cruise control is an option even on the top-of-the range version, the Carat. Decide what bits and pieces you really want then try for the best deal on the version with them fitted. Personally I prefer the style of the Galaxy so went for it over the SEAT and VW, but I had salesmen from all 3 makes looking for a used example for 4 months, from Jan to April last year and none of them came up with anything - I ended up buying from an independent MPV specialist about an hour's drive away from home. SEAT and VW are fitted with VW 2.0 petrol engine whereas Galaxy has Ford's 2.3 litre. All diesels are VW's as is the 2.8VR6 in either 12 or 24-valve versions (pre- or post-facelift determines the number of valves and power output). Torque of the 115 and 130 diesels is identical, the 130 has a newer design of the top part of the engine and produces more power whilst using less fuel - a clever trick!

I can see the dots in the middle of the envelopes when you go to each section and it lists the topics. It appears that there is a dot in the envelope against any thread to which you have posted a message - irrespecive of whether or not it was you that started the topic. So how many people can see these dots then - Just a select few of us or everyone?

Checked the torque figures and 115TDI puts out around 229 lb-ft whereas 2.8 24-valve is only around 176 lb-ft and at lower rpm, so the diesel wins hands-down.

Brakes - could be a stone or other debris caught in the calliper? But you can't get the wheels off to check..... try penetrating oil or "plus-gas" (IIRC) but make sure it doesn't go on the discs, tyres or brake pads. Failing that, weld a length of scaffolding pole to your spanner.....

Try an independent auto electrician who specialises in ABS. -
It doesn't tell you how a topic becomes "hot" or what the dot is for

Ghia Tdi For Sale - Not Mine
Ivor_E_Tower replied to Ivor_E_Tower's topic in Current Best Deals (Galaxy)
One day I'm going to have leather interior, satnav, auto transmission, luggage net and cover (rather than my improvised alternatives), DVD/video with screens and TV tuner................ -
What - nearly 27mpg from an auto around town or on stop-start journeys??? Start rejoicing. Parents have a 1974 Volvo estate auto, 2.0petrol. Used to average about 27mpg on most journeys but when it got used for only a few miles at a time on shopping trips etc after mum and dad had both retired, and my brother and I left home, we're talking about 10mpg!

2000 "W" - there are both the "old" and "new" models around. It took a while for the facelifted models to make it to RHD and get shipped over to the UK, and for a few months at least, the uprated 115PS diesel engine was in short supply (it appears that VW initially rationed the number of diesel engines they sold to Ford). The facelifted models are substantially different to the original ones - as well as the cosmetic differences there are many hundreds of different parts "under the skin". Unfortunately the aircon system didn't seem to get improved very much with the facelift. The latest tweaks, as Nimrod said, appear to be nothing much more than some chrome bits, plus a slight change in the interior cloth and a few new colours or the exterior. If you are looking to buy a 2.8 manual, I think you will find that all facelifted models are autos - which is a pity for you, as there is a definite improvement after the faclift - IIRC the engine went from 12valve to 24valve and the power output increased from just under 200bhp to just over 200bhp.

Abs Problem- Help Please

What do you mean by knocking? Where is it coming from, and when does it happen (under braking or all the time, for instance)? -
So, what are you going to do? Bite the bullet and fork out

Ghia Tdi For Sale - Not Mine
Ivor_E_Tower replied to Ivor_E_Tower's topic in Current Best Deals (Galaxy)
Nope, 7 seats. "standard" seats can be in leather as well as the so-called Captain's ones. Shame this wasn't advertised just over a year ago as I'd have been seriously tempted..... -

Someone at work (living in Aldershot) has just posted on our internal sales board: Gal Ghia TDI115 automatic for sale due to relocating abroad. 2001/Y-reg, silver, leather seats, video with 2 front seat head-rest monitors (I suspect that this is the factory-fit system). 39k miles. Price - under

....then stick to the diesel! The V6 will cost you loads in fuel (I know you think you will get it all back) and the diesel will retain more of its value at high mileage too. The diesel also has (IIRC) more torque than the V6 and unless you intend to spend loads of time at high speed, getting baulked by other drivers and then needing to speed up again rapidly, the diesel will be the better drive.

Ah, the little envelopes - don't know how they decide on their colour, but I think that a little dot in the middle means that you have made a posting to that thread. Dark blue = you have'nt read all posts on a thread, light blue = you have read all posts on that thread.

Safest way to check is with the engine number - try a search as soemone has previously posted a list of codes and the engines they refer to. The 130 is better (only available with manual transmission though) but there have been some complaints that it vibrates more than the 115. There is little to chose between the 115 and 130, they both develop the same amount of torque at the same speed. It's just the bhp output that differs - although the 130, being newer technology, offers slightly better fuel comsumption despite being more powerful!
-
Yeah, known problem. Mine was done at less than 18,000 miles and others have been done at less mileage than this. Welcome to VW quality standards.....

Yup - if your warning squares are at 0%, you have not been warned. This is confirmation that you are a "good boy" so no need to worry!

How Powerful Are The Fans
Ivor_E_Tower replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Rusty - I share your thoughts, the airflow from the vents is seemingly nothing like as powerful as in other cars I have owned/driven. The fans are noisy though, but there are a large number of vents so whether or not this "dilutes" the speed of air emerging from the face vents, for example, is a matter of conjecture. -
Get it changed ASAP - engine will not run correctly with duff sensor and long-term damage may result. You may also find that the emissions are out, which technically means you are breaking the law and are liable to a fine if stopped for a roadside check.

Have you checked the coolant level?
