  1. Reset the switch- even a new one when you have fitted it. Try searching for how to do this (sorry cannot remember off hand how it is done, but it is very simple). I take it you are still having problems with the GP light?
  2. It should be, but best to check just to make sure. Try looking from the access panel where the jack is kept, and also if necessary removing the storage bin - from memory it is held in by just a few screws. You may find that the other end is already connected to the factory-fit head unit.
  3. Complete loom is different. The bit to the tailgate may well be the same though.
  4. Ford and VW/Seat petrol versions will have different gearboxes too. Ford petrol engined versions have fuel cut-off inertia switch under front passenger seat, VW and Seat apparently do not fit this device (unless anyone knows better....). This means that there must be some electrical differences if nothing else.
  5. Seatkid - No I would not be happy with a handbrake that did not hold the car - I was just quoting the rules! My driveway is about 1 in 3 and when we moved in, the garage was used to store stuff, one car went under the car port and the other went on the driveway with a brick chocking one of the wheels each night just in case..... Made sure that we soon cleared the garage out so that both cars could be on the level at night.
  6. Yes, I've been "told off" about this before having guessed that it was 16v due to DOHC, but it is DOHC with only 8 valves!
  7. Ford 2.0litre engine fitted to Galaxy, VW 2.0litre engine (as per Golf etc) in the Sharan and Alhambra. All 2.8 litre V6s are made by VW as are all the diesel engines.
  8. ...and as far as the MOT is concerned, the handbrake has to provide a suitable method of slowing the car if the footbrake fails. If it won't hold the car on an incline, that doesn't matter, so long as it can slow the car at the appropriate figure!
  9. Johnb80 and others: Facelifted models are not "pre-wired" for towbars and you have to tap into the loom in several places to fit the towbar electrics.
  10. Yes, and you can also fit the chromed surrounds to the front fogs and the lower air intake panel with chrome bit in the middle. They just clip in whereas you will need a couple of torx drivers to do the rad grille. To fit the upper chrome bit on the grille though, you will need to open the bonnet and replace the rubbery seal bit plus drill some holes through the front edge of the bonnet and use some fixings to hold it in place. Latest word was that these items are not yet available as spares. Rad grille alone is likely to be in the region og
  11. ...and what's the betting that a wire or two has broken in the loom to the tailgate causing all this hassle in the first place?
  12. If you have climate control, then the fans should run all the time unless you switch it to "ECON". Sounds like they are working correctly.
  13. CC is fully electronic on TDI. Check brake pedal switches with a multimeter if you have one (around ten quid from Argos/Index if you don't). One can be checked easily via brake lights! Changing the stalk as a test is crazy - it must be possible to test this with a multimeter too, and the garage should be able to do that, else find a good auto electrician.
  14. Ah yes, Tandy - anyone know what happened to them? They were taken over by Carphone Warehouse and our local Tandy became a Carphone Warehouse shop for a while then IIRC closed down. Did all Tandy shops suffer the same fate? Seems odd for Carphone Warehouse to have bought them if this is all they did.
  15. "Auto" just means "on". I think it says "auto" rather than "on" because it then moves the vent flaps and adjusts the fan speeds itself - which it does on ECON too. Most confusing.
  16. ...so a flashing key means it's time to change your car?
  17. The size of wood I've used means that the cover acts as a shelf as it will support a fair weight. I think that if you really wanted to carry a regular amount of heavy stuff, a downward piece of wood, reaching the floor plus a pine or contiboard shelf cut from a sheet from the DIY places would be sufficient. Have certainly had several kilos (jackets, new rotating washing line etc) resting on my wooden frame though (and it hasn't snapped yet...)
  18. The Thule bars are quite good value - it's the price of the mounting feet that is somewhat exhorbitant!
  19. Don't forget that the rad fans are quite high tech - they run at several different speeds and not just on or off....but they should always be running if the aircon is switched on. Not sure if the fans can operate separately or if they always run together.
  20. Sensor on radiator is almost certainly for the cooling fans. There should be at least one sensor on the block and/or the thermostat housing for the temperature gauge and engine ECU.
  21. LOL!!
  22. The cuddly toy is in the storage bin on top of the CD-changer!! (it's an Andrex puppy in case the kiddies feel the need to give him a cuddle).
  23. It's a distorted picture I think - toolbox contains footpump, frost cover for screen, spare bulbs and fuses, a handful of tools (a few screwdrivers, pliers, adjustable spanner) and a tape measure - never travel anywhere without one! Also never travel without a notepad and paper in the glovebox - the number of people I've seen writing details on their chequebooks after an accident because it's the only bit of paper they have with them...... Rest of stuff is 2 empty coolboxes and a small fold-flat box for the supermarket run, collapsible plastic trolley (as per Citroen Picasso) and folding bike (handy for all those visits to the dealer to get the aircon fixed!!!). Not too much weight there - but I tell you, I don't half get fed up each time the car has to go to the garage as it takes about half an hour to empty all the stuff out and put it in my garage! At least the glovebox is almost empty.
  24. He who don't slow down for corners keeps fuel consumption low and doesn't wear out brake pads. Aged 44 and I don't hang around, but I do look ahead and try not to brake if I don't need to. Aiming to get at least 70,000 miles out of brake pads but as the Galaxy is over twice as heavy as the Honda on which I achieved this feat I doubt it!
  25. ....and to think that Ford want
