  1. Maybe you hit it too hard with that hammer... :D
  2. Until you take off the pipe, tape up the joint to prevent moisture and dust getting in. When you take off the pipe, immediately bung up the open ends of the system for the same reason. If you repair your pipe, make sure you clean the inside thoroughly and remove any debris/swarf otherwise you may find you need a new compressor a couple of weeks later. Good luck.
  3. I think u was framed. :)
  4. The standard booster heater setup can only run with the engine on as it requires the engines water pump to work. There was a special option offered to cold countries (e.g. Finland) at least on the Mk 1. This had an additional electric water pump, a second auxillary battery mounted in the car, a programmable timer/clock and presumably modified looms for the heater blowers. If you search the forum there has been discussion in distant past and I believe at least one meber has modified his car with this.
  5. Dont know the answer (but I would have thought so) but I would stress it is important for safety reasons to have the undertray fitted on the diesel models - The undertray prevents water from the road soaking the PAS belt with resulting loss of power steering assistance. (Brown pants time). Same thing for the front towing eye cover which should be fitted at all times. I'm not sure but I dont think petrol models have or need an undertray.
  6. Unless your chap can back his "feelings" with actual compression readings, I would ignore that and eliminate the obvious things first. 1. Check the ignition system is working - coil pack etc 2. Check the fuel pump is working and delivering fuel.
  7. Get a large hammer.......... And whack the starter motor (unless its an automatic then check the inhibitor switch)
  8. See This Lots of other guides in the FAQ
  9. I disagree, all MPVs are weak at the back compared to hatchbacks and particularly saloons. The lack of distance (no boot space) being the reason. Fortunately rear high speed shunts are rare, though those on the motorway are usually fatal for most car types. IIRC there was a crash in the news recently involving a Shalaxy on the motorway and unfortunately there were fatalities. Unless I'm mistaken, there is no crash bar in the tailgate as there are in the doors. IIRC On a more positive note, recent testing by Thatcham? for the insurance companies, shows the rear bumper performance of a Shalaxy to be a lot better than other cars (wrong info its Smax not Shalaxy)....... - for instance did you know there is no real bumper bar under the rear plastic bumper of a Nissan Qashqai!!!! If concerned, clean that cheese out of the a/c unit and maybe the kids will sit in the middle row. B)
  10. Check if it really had a new turbo and intercooler fitted (look for receipts, any doubt ring up the garage) Limp mode is triggered by ECU "seeing" too much or too little boost. This can be caused by 1. Check the air filter is not completely dirty/blocked 2. Vacuum leaks in the turbo control circuit - check pipes/joints for leaks, splits, collapse also vacuum reservoir, brake servo. 3. Sticking turbo vane actuator - can be freed up with some lubrication and manual working - but you say the turbo has been changed. 4. Faulty TMAP sensor 5. Gummed up TCS turbo control solenoid (an electrically controlled vacuum control valve) 6. Faulty MAF sensor 7. Leaking Boost pipework - check the (large) pipe joints and the intercooler - usually a loud hiss is audible under load 8. Faulty temperature sensor 9. Gummed up or faulty EGR valve Or a combination of some of the above! Start with no.1 - good luck, obviously the previous owner ran out of ideas.
  11. Check your meters calibration before you jump to conclusions. Battery with engine running 1500 rpm+, no heavy electrical loads should go to 14.3 volts +/- 0.3 volts. Fully charged battery, rested (1 hour) should be 12.8 volts I suspect your meter is not reading right.
  12. Thats a selector problem. There is a thread about the pinch bolt on the selector stack coming adrift. But what I would do first is check the gear lever at the drivers end - sounds like something become loose in the the bit at the bottom.
  13. What happens when you try and select reverse? Does the gear lever move to the correct position or is it blocked? If it moves to the correct position is the box in neutral or some other forward gear?
  14. I think you'll find its just a selector cable that has come detached. Do a search and check the Technical FAQ 16 for details.
  15. Its spelt BUFFOON. I'm inclined to agree with Sepulchrave, I don't believe a lot of what dealers say. Not that I'm particularly interested in Mk3s but I believe the majority of running issues with these diesels are to do with software and injector problems. If they fixed it, it was probably because they updated the ECU software at the same time they changed the filter.
  16. Under the drivers seat, just move the seat forward and unclip the floor cover (carpet type material) down behind.
  17. Maybe. I think the fuel distributor pump is capable of cutting fuel delivery to zero as well. Try it and see. IIRC imobilser blocking usually means you can start the engine and it cuts out 2 seconds later.....
  18. PD engines have a low pressure electric fuel pump located in the fuel tank. So advice for these engines to check fuse, relay applies. THis sounds like immobiliser problem - 1st check, check for PATS chip in key, this often drop out when the key is opened to change battery etc.
  19. I take it those plugs were new and not just replaced cos they look OK? Further ideas, reset the ECU by disconnecting battery for a couple of minutes (check you have the radio code first!). This is dump any "learnt" values. Could be lambda probe faulty or disconnected. Has the ECU or ignition timing been altered to accomodate LPG? Been reading a lot of late of valve/piston damage caused by LPG, showing up at 2 -3 years........burnt exhaust valves can give bunny hopping symptom.
  20. Buy some glasses and a megacandle torch! :D Heres some pictures to stare at......
  21. cc = climate control or cruise control? Either will do if you dont mind them spilling the fluid over their hands and all over your engine bay/ bodywork. I personally think Big Kev has a slightly old fashioned view of women and children. I wouldnt be surprised if he still sends his children up the chimney to clean it. :D Then after staring at it for several minutes.....turn the radio up instead...... :D
