No Power, No Acceleration But Not Stalling...
seatkid replied to Jayton's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
TPS - throttle position sensor - also known as the accelerator pedal position sensor. Its a fly by wire system and when the dual track potentiometer attached to the accelerator pedal plays up, this is what happens. A new one costs around -
:D And what engine/model year is this? IIRC Multiple speeds controlled by multiple thermoswitches.

Check fuses for front wipers/washer and supply pipe for rear in front passenger footwell. Frozen water and wipers frozen to screen are probably to blame.

Wash Wipe Not Working...
seatkid replied to Robwag's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Check fuses for front wipers/washer and supply pipe for rear in front passenger footwell as suzuki suggests. Frozen water and wipers frozen to screen are probably to blame. -
Theres nowt wrong - your temperature gauge or sensor isnt working. (might be wiring) In this weather, its normal to have a stone cold rad - just a hot top pipe - especially if your run is not at high speed/power and less than 30 minutes. The Tdi is just too efficient and all the heat generated is being sent to the two heaters (front and rear) Thats why you need a working booster heater thingy to speed the process and heat things up a bit. I also have insulated the pipework running to the rear heater on mine with that DIY foam insulation for 22mm pipe. Helps a lot in artic weather! Heated seats - they're the bees knees......

Merry Christmas To One And All
seatkid replied to gregers's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Never mind....soon be Christmas! -
I would wipe it all clean (I use brake cleaner aerosol) - then check it carefully after a run to determine the EXACT point of leak. If its from the sensor (bit with the wire), see if it unscrews, It may be loose. If its around the oil filter housing (e.g. around the joint in the pic) then it may need to be replaced if you find the leak unacceptable. Could be pricey though to replace. Might be repairable with gasket goo.

Try more fuel. If you parked on a slope there may not be enough in the tank to reach the pickup point. p.s. You did add diesel and not petrol?

Ford Galaxy Meets Renault Megan

I think you will find the law states otherwise. Speedo problems means it is not roadworthy /MOT failure. -
Ford Galaxy Meets Renault Megan

If I were you I'd take it back for a full refund and find one without major faults. -
Possibly water in the fuel filter freezing. Do you use bio diesel? Or add vegetable oil? These wax up in cold weather. Change the fuel filter.

2 pages - so thats the leaking wiper pipe fixed - what about the rest??? Leave it out SPAM This forum is the place for Shalaxy info....accept nothing else.

Belzona is marvellous stuff, metal repair putty. Used in industry extensively for your kind of problem. I always go in to my local 2 man engineering workshop and present the problem (usually specialist welding repair) - depending on the weather it costs between

Frozen Handbrake ....
seatkid replied to AndyBWales's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The rear calipers have a tendency not to release. It always seem to be associated with the offside caliper. Personally I think its a manufacturing issue. The self adjusting mechanism in the caliper is a little over enthusiatic and the lever doesnt always come back fully to the off position. A bit of WD40 and exercising the lever with pliers seems to effect a temporary cure (a few weeks or months). -
There are lots of small bore pipes - you may have restored the main vacuum, but may be suffering losses in the control system. Basically start at the turbo actuator and work your way back - there are joints galore. Could be sticky turbo actuator too...

Battery Drianing Slowly
seatkid replied to susrah0's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
If you have illuminated vanity mirrors, check them. When the plastic frame cracks then the lights dont switch off when closed. You can disconnect the lights at the plug in the headlining - just unscrew the mounting and pull the wires out. -
Belzona? Drill and retap to larger size? Is the threaded "hole" just a nut welded on the strut? In that case could you hacksaw or chisel it off? I'm sure you could repair it - go along to your local engineering workshop and see what they can do for you.

Front Wheel Side Impact!
seatkid replied to seatkid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks for all your comments - further inspection and driving seems to confirm no significant damage. The wheel damage is minimal and you wouldnt notice it unless I pointed it out to you. The rim must have briefly come down on the top of the kerb as the tyre wall was bumped. **This is an advantage of NOT having oversize super low profile tyres.** No tyre damage visible either. I will consider having it tracked if the tyres start showing any sign of misalignment. -
There is a small metal can hanging in front of the pollen filter in the engine bay - scuttle tray. This is a themoswitch operating at about 5 deg c. You can short the 2 pin connector out (a small auto fuse fits, apparently) to force the heater on. If your car is a MkII, then IIRC when your heater fails to start up 3 times or so in a row, the ECU flags it as faulty and you need to clear the error with VAGCOM or diagnostics. This applies when you have a faulty heater glowplug. .

Another Tdi Starting Issue
seatkid replied to dlivadas's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Are you sure you fitted good glow plugs? The resistance is between 0.1 and 0.3 ohms when cold. You need a lot of grunt to press the busbar back on to the plugs - its very tight. Also, although the relay is operating, have you checked that 12 volts is actually being fed to the plugs - IIRC there is a large fuse somewhere in that feed. Last few mornings I've noticed a brief bit of lumpiness when starting - I think one of my (original bosch) glow plugs has gone (I changed 2 about 4 years ago for NGK at -
Front Wheel Side Impact!
seatkid replied to seatkid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks, Saif and dunkirk, for the comments, much appreciated. -
Remember the turbo is controlled by vacuum! So you may still have leaks in other pipes too! Out of interest, where was the split - was it at the brake servo end?.

Lost it at slow speed (maybe about 5 mph) turning 90 deg left on fresh snow on an access road and the car broke away half into the turn and slid and bounced (drivers front wheel) into a 3 or 4 inch kerb with car approx 30 deg to kerb. (Tyre was parallel to the kerb I reckon). Bounced off and slid back, the snow was like ice. The tyre wall absorbed the bump mostly, but gouged a 3 inch long scrape on the alloy rim edge (next to tyre wall) - its not visible looking at the wheel and probably 1mm in depth - but its1st damage ever to wheels! :o Car still drives OK :P , no obvious steering change (angle etc) or tyre wobble etc. I will check it out fully when the weather permits but do you think its possible I might have bent anything (e.g. a control arm) or knacked a bush? I certainly hope not - just feeling v pissed off because I was in a mood and rushing more than usual. So....My fault - although I'm tempted to blame someone else.....deep depression. :) Cheer me up folks and tell me it'll be OK!
