How To Clear Flashing Panel
Dave-G replied to Dave-G's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Question for techies... The AC clutch engages about 15 seconds after the engine starts - and stays running regardless of heat setting, should this run all the time? The car is a Single AC rather than dual -

Right then guy's, one of my younger brother's is much more PC cleverer than I and has just bought a lappy Exactly what would I/we need to get this vag-com working on it? both for this and other usual things like oooo I dunno recalibration if my speedo goes wrong etc

:P yep real interesting all this... mine has started to emit clouds of light grey/white smoke - but with no fan sound. thinking about it.. I aint heard that jet this winter at all! Also had signs of fuel leaking from it - after 10 mins or so of running the smoke stops - I assume thats when it gives up starting attempts, yet it try's again next time I start the motor EDIT: I have temporarily pulled off a wiring terminal from the fuel feed pump - no more smoke - not tried to see how long it takes to warm up yet though

More info now: It's ford formula S/SD 5w-40.... Synthetic technology motor oil... VW505-01 etc, includes engines with pump nozzle technology etc... So is that ok then? just accept that it's now a very thirsty engine oil consumer that barely used a drop prior to using that oil?
-
A mate of mine has been using an engine oil supplied by a main dealer for his 04 galaxy. I recently got to look at the can - out of curiosity (well it was just left lying around) and put it back after deciding it was'nt suitable for topping up my galaxy - It did'nt specify "PD engine". Until I get to see it again tonight, the only thing I can recall about it is that it claims to be for all diesel engines and that it is 5w40 I only discovered it was being used for my mates galaxy about an hour ago (his family have other fords) I mistakenly made a similar error with my last galaxy - and it started to become very oil thirsty Guess what? his galaxy is now using bucket loads of oil - and his garage says he must have a bad leak from the sump plug. Does this sound like lasting damage - or will an oil/filter change restore things to normal?

It's one of the reasons I've not posted much on this forum lately - I have a new hobby, but since it dont appeal to tree huggers and such I usually confine it to the shooting forums - but cant seem to get the hang of that photobucket etc ;) Have a nice holiday guys and girls and may all your galaxy's be trouble free in 2006

Sorry guys - Ignore this, I'm just using it as a picture host for somewhere else

:D Sorted I think...  It appears to have been a bad connection. B) Since removing the battery carrier, and yanking on the feed to the starter - and the negative to the engine block (which has a small portion of the insulation removed to allow a "through the saddle" type connection to the body) there has been no failure to start. In the process I had separated/reconnected several in-line plug/sockets leads. The flylead I joined into the solenoid supply will remain for a while, it worked - after reconecting all the wiring I turned the ignition on and started by touching it on the positive battery terminal. Thanks to all for the input

nice one boys - but where's the earth lead? And wot does it look like - is it sheathed etc?? Another edit: what am i saying? well it was easy then to find even the smallest items ...like say a core plug, a temperature sender etc Yet another edit: I think I asked the question in a dysexlic way - well I know what I meant ;) I actually meant between the body and engine block. Found it - yep, partly sheathed and partly hidden in a hose - all nice and tight. :) I'm goin to join a small feedwire into the plug of the solenoid lead and try a direct to battery connection if it happens again
-
:P Eventually got the battery carrier off to check the positive lead was on the starter tightly (well one my mates kept "telling" me it was that),and that frikkin clip on the plug to the expansion bottle got a right good kickin with a pair of cutters! ;) only to find that I would have been able to feel it anyway ;) I cant seem to find the earth cable - (I know - dont expect it to be an easy to spot braided cable it's probably now pvc covered and in a "hose pipe looking tube" the bisturds! :) I remember being able to remove the bonnet and sit on the front of a cortina with my legs down either side of the engine bay and still have room to turn sideways ...well almost... GRR RANT RANT
-
:) update: Woont start last night with the spare key either :P I then left it locked up for 15 mins... non starter then 30 mins...non starter Disconnect positve battery terminal, wait 15 mins started Thats an hour roadside! There were no door led flashes apart from the usual one at/during start up ;) O - I also opened and closed boot a few times :P Going back to basics now - will temporarily treat it as a 20 year old car and check the starter lead and engine earth connections  I'd joined the AA last friday (online) as a backup - but cant use em till i got the membership card ;)
