Heated Wing Mirrors.
johnb80 replied to pacificgreen's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I thought all Galaxy's had DOOR mirrors ? and heating if fitted was operate by the REAR screen not the front screen heating. Regards - JB -
Hi, We have a Scorpio 2.3 and around town 25-29 mpg, on a run 35ish. I have to say it's the smoothest 4 potter I've ever driven. Regards - John
-
Maybe it is 3mph, it's slow anyway, you can usually hear the abs do its stuff just as you set off the first time. Sounds like you had a dodgy connector and now the system has seen all of the correct signals it's a happy little bunny. Well done that man. Regards - JB
-
10 - 15 mph is when the system looks at the wheel sensors to see if it's receiving a signal from them. Regards - JB
-
If it was a fault with the sensor ring the light would extinguish initially then come on when you set off. If the light is staying on from startup the system is failing the static tests i.e. Sensors, Modulator or the control module. Regards - John

Make sure of the following:- 1) Aircon is working 2) The front passenger footwell is dry 3) The performace is what you would expect 4) Everything works 5) You get a decent warranty that will cover the MAF and Aircon If you do buy it DON'T place a post on here about a jet engine noise coming from the back, have a read up on aux heater first! Sounds a nice car, let us know how you get on. Regards - JB
-
It will cost you more initially but what you must also consider is that it will hold it's resale value much better. Don't look at the 2000 extra look at the depreciation over the time you're going to keep it to get a true cost. The obvios advantage is mpg's and on that score you will save around

Broken Aircon Advice
johnb80 replied to JonDonkin's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I'd be tempted to buy a new compressor from the cheapest source, in my experience go to a trade aircon supplier (not necessarily an automotive one). When the work is done go and find your nearest large argricultural machinery supplier e.g. Massey Ferguson dealer or similar and take it there to have the system flushed, cleaned, gassed etc, they've been doing it a lot longer than garages, their knowledge seems superior and their prices much lower. 2002 Seat Alhambra Tdi S (115ps)
johnb80 replied to tim-spam's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The trims below the rear lights are a real pain. Having said that if you go carefully all of the latches can be successfully unclipped, it took me about 5 minutes to do the pair when I fitted my towbar. I found using a hacksaw blade with the teeth ground off and all sharp edges removed was ideal. Regards - John -
Surely the water temp isn't sensed at the back for controlling the heater on / off / modulation, that must be a function of the engine management I would have thought ?

Cold Starting Noises?
johnb80 replied to Big Jim's Lad's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The cam chain tensioner would be working better when the engine is cold because the oil is thicker, pressure higher and the chain shorter so I don't think that is the cause of your problem. The aux or booster heater as far as I know is only fitted to diesels. Regards - JB -
When one makes such a comment one should be prepared for the flames that will come back. No need for him to leave but he should have expected the replies that he got. Merry Christmas - JB

Whilst I have not experienced it on a Gal I have had it on a 2.8 24v Ultima. It's well documented on the scorpio website and one of the causes was the MAF. On the Scorpio cleaning it with carb cleaner was sufficient to completely cure it. The effect is caused by the torque converter locking and then unlocking straight away. Hope this helps. Regards - JB

I'll tell you free of charge, it's Christmas :- http://www.elcats.ru/imaudivw/VAG041B0.gif How do I know, right click on the image, look at properties and there it is in glorious Black & White Obviously being a VR6 owner he's hard up and needs the cash to buy petrol / cam chains / guides etc. Merry Christmas - JB

Drive in London, why on earth would anyone want to do that? Not me matey green fields and open roads of Lincolnshire is my home ground and I wouldn't want it any other way. Fancy having to change down to get a decent 50 to 70 time I thought these V6's were supposed to be good  no match for the torque of a good old tractor engine  Regards - JB
-
Not according to the Ford TIS it is not, it is 5C. Mine runs at less than 11 deg C, 11.5 it won't start, 11 it does for sure. Regards - JohnB

He'd be able to claim on the insurance and but a much better diesel model with the heater already fitted

doesnt the VR6 sound the same when the tensioner's worn out? No it doesn't, there's a horrible bang followed the the jingling of cash going out of the owners pocket to Ford, they're not too worried about this sound cos theyre used to it when they make such frequent trips to the petrol station  I still don't see the logic why use 6 cylinders when 4 will do the job, why do less than 30 mpg when you can do 50+. Seriously VR6 very nice engine, lovely sound, the real advantage acceleration, but just how long do you spen accelerating on a journet? not that much. Constant speeds the oild burners are right in there with you and PROBABLY have better 50 to 70 times in top gear so on balance I personally don't think theyre that much better. They talk about the noise, inside a diesel theyre quiet and not intrusive, certainly when you're moving along you don't hear the engine at all. Merry Christmas to you one and all (even the VR6 pilots). Regards - JohnB

Hi, I too had a reply from webasto, they quoted

Hi, Welcome aboard. I can't answer all of your questions, I'm sure some of the others will! The warm up should be quicker, the diesel engine is very efficient and doesn't produce a lot of heat. To help the situation most (if not all) Galaxy diesels are fitted with an aux heater. You should notice a turbine sound from the nearside rear of the car on cold mornings if not either it's not fitted or not working hence the long warm up. Kind Regards - John

It's in the box itself, dunno about the V6 but the diesel needs to be connected up to the Ford WDS system to check the level (or so I'm led to believe). Regards - JB

Seatkid, you're a very naughty boy using language like that now go and stand in the corner, stay there until you're invited back out. To everyone else please accept apologies on behalf of seatkid for mentioning the 'T' word, the first three letters of the name are about right.

Right all of you with too many cylinders let me state I AM NOT HAVING A GO AT YOU OK ? From time to time I read Car Mechanics magazine, I picked up a copy today that has a tale of woe about a V6 Gal. Apparently a garage sold the Gal to someone and it drove perfectly OK AA inspections etc, clean bill of health. The new owner was driving when there was a bang and the engine stopped, they had done less than 100 miles since purchasing the vehicle. The cam chain had snapped! The article goes on to say that this is well known within the trade with the golfs and Gals and it usually happens around the 100,000 mile mark. Changing the chain is a nightmare because unlike normal chain driven cams the VW ones are driven from the back i.e. the chain is inbetween the gearbox and the engine so even to change the chain is an engine and gearbox out etc. They recommend that if you're buying a V6 and it has more than 80,000 on the clock you should offer

I think you'll find it's a MUST be self levelling, the other MUST is they MUST have washers! I suppose it's because they're very bright and if the car had passengers in the back or the boot full oncoming drivers would have their Retina's melted  I think the reason for not so many vehicles with them fitted to main beam is that they take a short time to ignite and get to full brightness, not ideal for main beam. In every other respect they're excellent. Regards - JB
