  1. turn the key towards the boot release and then turn again - cant remember which is the dead lock though (once or twic) but you will hear it again (slightly different sound)
  2. doesnt answer your question but how about this
  3. thats how we found out initially
  4. not suffered warped disc on our auto but sounds like a feasible reason Mr T
  5. picture 14 shows the old style connector
  6. there are 2 types a) from the link - this has a thread on the top and the 12v connects to that - the connector has a shoulder which makes the earth(0v) the other type  which are the same basic plug has two wires (more modern replacement) which requires a small modification to the connctor - either will do (I got mine from hans motors as per the link and it is still going strong after 5 years - touch wood)
  7. possible air getting into the diesel lines - this may be alleviated by cycling the ignition as the air may be pumped through ?? just a thought
  8. the alarm going off is often a symptom of low battery voltage - with ours there is usually enough left in the battery to start the car but if I leave it (usually dvd player left on without noticing) and the alarrm goes off a couple more times then the starter wont start - given that the original battery is 10years old (if it hasn't been changed) then it might be worth investigating that
  9. apparently when you stop smoking the tar which stops the little hairs from standing up straight eventually is removed and you become very sensitive to air flowing over them and that makes you cough - I wonder what mechanism makes your asthma worse - you would have thought that the constrictions in the alveoli would be lessof a problem without the tar - maybe the lack of nicotine means the airways constrict more ??
  10. warped discs then? uneven pad wear?
  11. my ghia only has the one touch operation on the front windows !! interestingly our rear passenger window works on the switch up/down and comes down with the global closing (key held in lock position in drivers door) but will not go up on the global closing - not got around to sorting the broken wire out yet
  12. we had a sensor that sometimes didn't work - it would be fine if it wasnt misty/foggy so I concluded that it was damp (rain didnt affect it) eventually it wouldn't work at all and when replaced the system has been fine ever since
  13. heres a diagram - item 13 IIRC
  14. on the side bulkhead to the left of the passengers knees - IIRC
  15. you said that i opened the doors - was that on the remote cl or putting the key in the door? the code should still be valid if the batteries didnt come oout - if you need to recode the remote (its easy) see here to recode the remote central locking - this has nothing to do with the car running though
  16. should be good to go !!
  17. there is no CODE whch allows the engine to run - it is highly likely that you have lost the pats chip when the key came apart (my remote key comes apart but the batteris dont fall out andf so th remote CL code does not get 'lost') this is what yopu are looking for
  18. the only oil ford stock for the pd engine is formula sd so I guess they gave you the wrong one dont think it i even the correct viscosity range !! (think formula E is 5w30 and formula sd is 5w40 - from memory only dont quote me)
  19. long time no see .... if you look in the faq - there is a link there for removing the door panel - guess you will need to take a look :D
  20. last time I looked formula-e was not specified to 505.01 which is specified for the vw pd engines
  21. first thing with ANY window/locking problem is to check the wires in the door boots - see the faq(click on my signature) items 31 and 43
  22. get some lozenges - that way you can concentrate on breaking the actual smoking habit and separate it from the nicotine part - worked for me
  23. mintex appears well thought of
  24. brake pad warning (at least on mk2) is a simple broken wire it dosent need resetting - the sensor is inly on one wheel of each pair (rear offside) cant remember which on the front though. If you replace with pads without the sensor wire then a simple short will turn the warning off
