cheers for the info do you know if that also applies to the models with the two key system? I think from the op that hes already got the new locks and keys - so it looks like ford will have to program them - umm how to get the car there after changing the locks?? Anybody know if vag-com can program the keys to the PATS??

Thanx after the laptop idea I thought about this unfortunately I can find a way of connecting a hard drive (wrong sort of usb) or how to connect larger lcd screens

more likely water ingress, how about trying to dry it out and then dusting talcum powder around to see if you can locate its path - may give you a better idea where to look, even if it does smell like a boudoir for a few days (looking at the weather forcast this week)

Did they incude a uv dye in the pressure test, dyes are often aromatic (in the organic chemistry sense) and often smell - as implied by their name.

Sounds like you've got the 2 key programming system (don't need the red key) especially if you didn't get one with the car. Have you got two new keys with the locks? I would assume that the new keys won't be programmed to your PATS unless the unit is actually in the ignition lock. If it isn't then I think you will need to get ford to program the PATS. Can't see how it could know the keys as you've just bought them. If the PATS unit is in the ignition lock then it may come preprogrammed (don't know where the codes are actually stored). Did you get the new locks and keys from fords?

rtfm - umm I did it whilst checking for the OP :16: anyway 1 minute with both of the remotes soon reprogrammed them :16: DO NOT HOLD THE LOCK BUTTON AND PRESS THE LOCK BUTTON OUT OF RANGE OF THE CAR :16: :16: :16:

that disables the alarm IIRC i think then it is deadlocked with alarm disabled, what happens if you press it once and try...
