115 Tdi Hot Starting Problem
iainkirk replied to iainkirk's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
OK, well Reg Vardy in Motherwell had the car for the day on Monday and couldn't find a fault. No codes. Nothing - apart from the fact that it's still doing it! Any clues anyone??? -
115 Tdi Hot Starting Problem
iainkirk replied to iainkirk's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Must be some sensor fault or other then. BUT, I've checked again and it doesn't start UNLESS I pump the accelerator, so maybe there's a sensor that says "the human is pumping the accelerator!". I will suggest it's a sensor when I go to the garage, bearing in mind most Ford "technicians" don't know the first thing about Galaxies. -
Don't recall having read this problem on here before, but no doubt it's been addressed somewhere. Galaxy is off the the Fraud dealer on Monday with a hot starting problem. Cranks for about 20 seconds before starting, then runs fine, performance as normal etc etc. It's only just started doing this. Cold (ie next morning) start is 100% as normal - ie immediate. Pumping the accelerator helps it start, which suggests fuel starvation, but runs normally once it's started. I'm currently using BP Ultimate, but haven't had this problem beofre and I normally use this. Any ideas ?

Looks like it! Wait for your battery to go next at 12 months or less...

Belgian spec Ghias are ususally HIGHER spec than UK ones, not lower. Eg Multifunction steering wheel as standard.

Rather expensive for a PortaPotti in a bag!

Parts Department Knowledge
iainkirk replied to galantlad's topic in Dealer Service and Reliability (Galaxy)
Recently needed oil top up whilst away from home and visited Ford garage in Stirling for a litre. They had the right stuff in the workshop in bulk (they showed my the barrel), but none available in retail packaging. Offered me the 5-30 stuff! Fortunately, next door was VW dealer, however they wanted -
My turn... two rattles inside the dash - one to the left of the dash lids and one behind the speedo. Have had the junk trays out and re-tightened, but to no avail. Any clues? NB mine rattles at speeds not permitted on the public highway.

40k Service And Cambelt Change Fiasco
iainkirk replied to iainkirk's topic in Dealer Service and Reliability (Galaxy)
smurf - the cambelt change interval was reduced from 60,000 miles to 40,000 miles early in the facelift range due to rather a lot of expensive failures under 60,000 miles IIRC. 40,000 miles is definitely the correct interval currently - see your owners' manual. -
Yayyyyyyyyyyy! That's the newest I've seen with the fault! Warranty replacement here we come!

Retrofit Multifunction Steering Wheel
iainkirk replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Multifunction steering wheel is standard on mainland European models. My import has it. Wouldn't be without it for the cruise and the radio controls! -
Have you ever tried taking a Galaxy wheel off with the wheel wrench supplied with the car? If you have locking wheel nuts, it is actually virtually impossible, due to the angle of the wheel brace, which simply turns the lock nut out of the bolt head. Crap VW design yet again.

"not sure how much fuel is left when the light comes on" ...about 10 litres (or 2 and a bit gallons). Tank capacity is 70L and I get 60 in if I refill then.

Finding A Used Galaxy Engine
iainkirk replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
How shot? Isn't the 2.0 petrol engine the good old Ford 2.0 DOHC from the Mundaneo? I presume it may be a bit different in places to fit into the Galaxy, but most of the important bits will be interchangeable surely ??? -
Trust you Ivor! But seriously, I think the seat-back cloth unzips and lifts off, allowing you to replace the nut (with added Araldite).

Any Paint Experts? Need Some Advice
iainkirk replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
1. I assume the insurance repair has a warranty. Reject the repair due to the vehicle not having been returned in the pre-damaged condition. 2. Ask your insurer if they will accept the report from AND PAY FOR an inspection from an independant assessor, chosen by you (as they chose the last one). 3. Obtain a report from your local Ford dealer. The insurance company cannot possibly reject a report from the representative of the vehicle's manufacturer.
