Fuel Gauge Beeping And Speedo At 0
mikej replied to Izza's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Make sure you pull the stearing wheel asdjustment right out and lock it to it's lowest point to give you clearance . -
Don't bother the 2.3 is gutless and turboless, i've had one for approx 5yrs now and wouldn't waste my money on this lump especially in such a heavy motor. Been looking at the options over the years as i tow a caravan (slowly) I did run a mapped 320bhp volvo prior to this and in my own opinion if it ain't got a turbo it ain't worth mapping it as the gains are very poor. If you want to save fuel you could try LPG that's the first thing i did to this when i bought it and never looked back to be honest, however even that's getting dearer and your better of getting one that's been converted already if you can, in fact that's the only thing making me keep it as i sure as hell wouldn't like to put petrol in it

Well changed the thing today and while the car is definately more responsive and smoother can't really say the power has increased any although may need to give the ecu time to adjust, sorry i can't offer yopu much in the way of hope!

1.9td Fuse Box Burning Out
mikej replied to james B's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
As said very common and very seldom the alternator, mine went a few years back and almost took the car with it. Don't just change the fuse box change the large lead from the alternator as well prior to refitting the new box or it will melt again, apparently a bad crimp at the box end causes it to go high resistance and overheat Also found the box's to be cheaper at VW than at Fords? -
I have a 2.3 mk2 LPG'd for the last 5 years, and i too suspect my cat is blocked due to similar symtoms to yours, the car appears to be flat and down on power or should i say more than usual  , I'm sure you already know if it isn't right on petrol then it won't be on the the gas anyhow i am about to replace the said part tomorrow afternoon so i will let you know how i get on.

I too tow a van and found the galaxy too bouncy at the rear (2001 mk2 2.3 petrol)so replaced with a set of gas ones from GFS which were very resonable, fitted them together with a pair of spring assisters and new plastic cups either end that the springs fit into, never looked back and they have been on for approx 18 months without issue. If i had to do it again i would be fitting the same setup! cheers mike.

Hi all anyone any suggestions as to where to check for water ingress on the passenger side, the wife got in the car yesterday ( passenger side )and as we pulled away a stream if water appeared from the right hand side of glovebox area onto the floor, approx a couple of cup fulls and then stopped thankfully missing her handbag ;) it had been raining over night but it was quite a bit. Never had any issues before and the old bus for five years plus now, the usual scuttle is clear as are the drains. Anyone any suggestions ?????????????

Where The Heck Is It? ( Cruise Vacuum Pump )
mikej replied to Airrex7's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I have a mk2 same model as yours and spent 2 yrs trying to fix it and guess what once i did i don't ever use it lol  Anyhow it is indeed behind the passenger indicator secured to the inner wing. Believe me there are alot of areas that can cause failure not just a seized pump or split pipe and yes you can be lucky and just trim the pipe. I would recommend you do a search on here because it has definately been covered many times and there should be a wealth if tips . best of luck mike. -
Front Shock Springs
mikej replied to 1970herbster's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Springs are suppose to be vehicle specific due to the different specced models although you may get a few similar models using the same, just look at the paint marks on the tail end of your current spring and search the internet inc Ebay for the same type, replaced one on mine twice now. Usually 3 little marks of paint like blue, blue, white etc. Have you considered that maybe a previous owner could have fitted after market ones hence your dilema? mike. -
Can anyone provide a diagram or link to a picture showing the bolt that frequently comes loose on the 5 speed manual box, the one fitted to the 2.3 petrol. This bolt apparently creates selection difficulties and then total loss of gear selection once it drops out and results in having to remove the box i beleive, anyhow i have a spare box on the bench and was looking for the said bolt but can't find the bloody thing so any hints to it's location would be great? cheers Mike.

Tailgate And Rear Wiper Trouble Shooting
mikej replied to jockster71's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Just spent 2 days replacing all the wires in the tailgate, been patching them up for years but had enough this time round, no fogs, unable to open boot remotely, fog light symbol permanently ON dash clocks, parking sensor going off continually and no reverse lights jeez lets hope it lasts a few months longer! Mike.. -
Although i can't help you on this at the moment you are not alone, mine has been doing this for a while now all other gears are fine but when pulling off and selecting 2nd it's a swine to get it into gear first time smoothly. When it gets a bit warmer will have a closer look.

Help With Gearbox Oil Please
mikej replied to ade's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi ade i know it's a bit late but after chasing the correct gear oil for the ford manual box for many years now i settled for the Castrol Syntrans 75w-90 this was recommended by the Ford guys after alot of digging and phoning around etc. It ain't cheap and quite difficult to find, had mine through Amazon eventually.Anyway mine is a mk2 2.3 2001... Mike... -
If your ever travelling east along the M4, i'm in Bridgend and can reset it for you !
-
Check all the connections inc the earth strap on the starter, small braided one. Next time it refuses to do anything give it a clout with a hammer or should say the handle of the hammer just incase it's getting sticking. I have a petrol myself but can't imagine the starters being much different, if it does turn out to be stuffed and it sounds like especially if the battery is new, (diesels need a good old punch of power so the battery has to be good)and you can here it clicking when trying to start try e.bay as there are normally a few on there or even a scrappy, don't be a mug and buy new from a main steeler.

The block is in two halfs, and maybe the guy refered to that as the sump and the pan is actually a sump tray fitted on the reverse of that etc, oh i don't know ???

Tow Bar And Cycle Rack.
mikej replied to TeamGreen's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
After being in this position myself a few years ago i evenyually after a bit of research opted for a pendle system, the base or holder for the rack is fitted behind the tow ball and is left there permantly, the rack it's self is so simple, basically two arms fit into the base and away you go. Mine carries 4 full size mountain bikes without any issues. Never looked back. I can chuck a photo up tomorrow if you like or you could have a look at www.pendle-bike.co.uk The one i have is the (4bike behind the ball mounting) approx -
Ok if anyone is looking for a set of 4 used mk2 ghia alloys then due to change of plans they are now up for sale, two have very very good tyres fitted but they are not reinforced from what i can see other two will need replacing. Looking for
