  1. El Dingo your a star mate thanks alot . I can order one am tomorrow .The damage to mine was bad , the top cable 150 AMP ( looks like the alternator) is all twisted with the heat and the fuse had almost gone , bloody big hole in box size of 50p piece i am just thankful for the forum advice , it looks to me like the cable retaining nut in the box may have worked loose causing the high resistance and melting . i will check all other associated wiring tomorrow prior to fitting new box . thanks again for the prompt reply mike....
  2. Hi all just had my fuse box melt on me today 250 miles from bloody home , managed to get some bits from halfrauds and patch it up . Looks like its a common problem looking at the posts same as a few others 150amp alternator fuse and cable melted , does anyone have the dealer part number to hand so i can order it it looks like a VW part on my galaxy , any help would be great thanks in advance mike..........
  3. Had no issues at all with it cutting out once started , well not yet anyway
  4. Could it be something as simple as the battery in the key then ?
  5. Pats ??? Not changed anything on keyring .
  6. Hi all got stuck in a bloody McDdonalds drive in today , i made the mistake of switching my car off while waiting for my coffee , got pushed out by the staff did get a few moans but as i explained if it was a proper drive through then i wouldn't have had to switch it off in the first place lol ! Anyhow its happened a dozen or so times today never had a problem with starting before . The symtoms are as follows : open car with fob as normal shut door and place key in barrel turn key and nothing totally dead no relays or fuel pump noise just a rapid flashing drivers door light after several attempts key goes in noise from fuel pump door light stays on and car starts as normal , looking for some help people as i cannot afford to get stuck got a dodgy ticker so cannot even push a pen without going red in the face . Thinking possible fuel pump relay or relay 30 anyone any other advice / ideas ?
  7. What fuse did you replace to get your onboard computer working ? With ref to your stereo i removed mine last week to sort out a rattling from behind when i refitted it it was totally dead , i checked all the plugs at the rear and they were ok i then removed every fuse in the box and refitted , the bloody stereo came alive and has been ok since ? dunno who put these gals together but there are so many stupid faults never mind the air con and cruise control issues . Anyway glad you got your computer back very jealous.
  8. Thanks all for the info after 2 yrs my glove box light is no longer constantly on , switch is hopeless at staying put so 1 x self tapping screw later and all is well . That should give my battery a breather
  9. Welcome to the club , the club of of duff onboard computers that is  ! my manual 51 plate 2.3 ghia has the same issue onboard computer just died although the stereo is fine , hopefully the fact your stereo has gone also may suggest just a fuse gone with any luck . If you ever get to the bottom of the fault pleae post your findings . Sorry i cannot be of any help. mike...
  10. Can someone tell me where the glovebox light switch is on the mk2 gals as my light is on all the time . Cannot find it , i think i have a snapped hinge so if it is switched by these which side is it left or right ? thanks mike.... :angry2:
  11. Have 2020's on mine and like you cannot get many miles at all , approx 12k on last set and they ain't cheap . Does anyone use budgets if so which ones as i am looking to replace all four within the month ? mike.
  12. Well i hope you have better luck than me as mine is driving me to drink , same problem as you possibly the cruise module but don't know how to tell.
  13. Without sounding to stupid have you tried just changing the belt first ? This actually cured my screeming issue 2001 2.3 gal  .
  14. Have you had your battery disconnected by any chance ? if this is the case when manually operating the windows up/down hold the switch for a few seconds longer after the window has closed or fully opened etc this normally reprograms them HONEST they should work as before . If however you have not disconnected the battery then i have no idea how the key would effect this sorry !
  15. Cheers folks checked the pipes to pump etc and fitted brand new pump which is working on the bench but not in situ , this is an ogoing pain in the arse anyway the latest after ripping the bloody dash apart is as follows: when you reach the required speed and set cruise there is a definite click from beneath the dash from the cc module which i may add i have now found after hours of searching (ON A MANUAL MK2 GAL PETROL IT CAN BE FOUND DIRECTLY ABOVE THE PEDALS UNDER THE DASH ) but alas no cruise control . If you then slide the resume on the stalk there is a buss from the passenger footwell as long as you hold the resume this buzzing can be heard , possibly the pump engaging but too faint to tell. The crazy thing is the cruise did actually work but was intermittant due to a siezed pump after i changed the pump its all gone pear shaped , also checked the pedal switches and all ok . Any help would be great  Thanks to those who have already replied.
  16. Hi can anybody tell me how the brake and clutch switches work for the cruise ,what do they actually do and what is the simplest way of checking there ok. BOFORE I BURN THIS BLOODY VAN
  17. As you know already fluid level is crucial on auto box's but i have to admit based on what you say regarding the current oils condition i would be tempted to drain and replace the oil first before i started out on a spending spree , i wouldn't bother paying silly amounts of money for refurb either but simply look for a salvage box from a breakers if the oil change doesn't work , so called specialists are not going to say anything else are they ! they just want as much money out of you as they can get.
  18. Had a simlar problem to this a while back turned out to be the ABS ring had a hair line crack in it , almost impossible to see untill the ring was washed down . Every so often it would open and cause the ABS to kick in , new ring sorted it out , may be worth a try .
  19. Thank you kind sir for the prompt reply , all i have to do now is try and fix this ferkin cruise control
  20. Hi people i need to do some repair/investigation under the dash board ( bloody criuse control) but don't wan't any of the airbags to deploy , can someone on here tell me how to prevent this from happening and make safe etc . Would disconnecting the battery do this ? thanks mike..... :)
  21. I would have thought oil starvation is the problem on startup , oil thicker when cold ! once warm or after a run oil is thinned out and can reach the top of the engine from sump much easier so this would tie in with what you are describing . Pickup pipe , oil pump or other oil ways blocked for my money , doesn't really matter how many times you put new oil in if the pipe or oil ways are blocked it will still be starved of oil when cold as said the oil will be thicker ! my own view mind....... :D
  22. Does anybody know where the c/control module is actually located or is it built in the the main ecu ,MK2 GAL 2.3 ??????
  23. Sorry to hijack this thread but i have cruise installed and cannot for the life of me get it to work , No split pipes etc and it was working although a bit rough due to corroded pump . Bought a new pump and fitted now won't switch on , cannot get 12v at pump ! pump does work however as brand new , if anyone has the know how then please share the knowledge it doesn't seem to switch or click any relays when activated on stalk  ?????
