  1. After getting my fingers burnt with some ebay drop links which were creaky, noisy, horrible things, I decided to buy some OEM ones. So went to Frauds yesterday only to be quoted
  2. This link refers to run flat tyres rather than reinforced tyres. Run Flats do have reinforced sidewalls but are not an extra load tyre. They maintain their shape after a puncture so that in the event of a puncture you still maintain full control of the vehicle, in fact you probably wont even know you have a puncture unless you have a tyre pressure warning system on your car. The downside to these tyres is that no matter what the manufacturer states, they have a detrimental affect on ride quality. I do agree though that it is the load index that is important rather than the RF, XL reinforced or whatever terminology the particular manufacturer uses.
  3. I had bother putting a JVC with atandard DIN connectors in my MK1 The DIN connector in the galaxy was wired differently and as a result I kept losing my memory (in the head unit) For some reason the permanent live was actually switched and the switched live was permanent? All I did was cut and swapped the 2 lives on the galaxy wiring just behind the connector. If you use bullet conectors or similar you can simply swap them back at any point in the future.
  4. Arent the fans on the radiator just the cooling system fans? On any other car the radiator fans are for the cooling system not the A/C. They should come on at roughly 3/4 way up the temperature gauge.
  5. Try cleaning the bonnet switch, ive heard it can be a common alarm activation problem, not mondeo specific though. Do all your door switches work correctly (ie- do they all put the interior lights on independantly of each other?)
  6. Mine was from Budget Tyre & Exhaust in Carlisle, its a local independant not a national im afraid. Do a search on this forum, theres a post on cat's that has a link in it to an online retailer where the cats can be bought for
  7. Front shocks and strut top mounts for me
  8. And now its even harder to follow....lol
  9. It does sound like the MAF, but its an expensive part to buy as a "just in case". I take it the performance was no different with the MAF disconnected? Not just the top speed, but the acceleration and general drivability?
  10. I cant really offer any constructive advice other than disconnect the MAF and have another run down the M'way, if its no different to before then it looks like a faulty MAF.
  11. Add your exact model to your signature and you'll get better help! Petrol or Diesel?
  12. What Car for your Car! Above is a link to the what car site covering your model, I've always found WhatCar to be a not bad source of info, the only problem is the options list isnt always that accurate- electric front windows "not available" for instance.
  13. I suppose the obvious difference is the size, the Galxy and variants are a custom built MPV whereas the Zafira is based on the astra chassis/running gear. the Galaxy is a true 7 seater and the zafira is a 5+2 with 2 fold down seats in the boot, so therefore the zaf' may be more practical for someone who only occasionally needs the 7 seats and possibly with not much in the way of luggage when you have a full compliment of passengers (Not that the gal' has that much boot space with all 7 seats in). I regularly have 6 people in my galaxy plus suitcases and a pushchair and whilst It could be described as "full to the gunwales" it copes admirably. I imagine the overall running costs are lower for the vauxhall. There is an ex Gal owner on the forums that now has a Zaffy, if I new his name you could ask his opinion (Perhaps a Mod' can help?)
  14. No its the twin cam 8v lump out of a sierra/granada
  15. Ive never heard of pinking (pre-ignition) being refered to as knocking before, To me, knocking means your Big-ends are Fubar'd!
  16. Was gonna read your post just didn't have the.........
  17. No, the wife does that while im playing games!
  18. Is the induction noise different with the engine under load? It sounds similar to an intake pipe being off the intercoler or turbo. Of course if these pipes were off the induction noises would be much louder. They may not sound much different without the engine under load though. Check the piping from the airbox to the intercooler and turbo, should be immediately apparent if theres one off.
  19. Cheers Popeye, but i will have to wait until the next time it happens to try your fix. Got in the car this morning for work at 5.30(cold & frosty), it worked normally and was still working when I finished at 1.30 (warm & Sunny) Cheers all
  20. Tickford? my mistake, was slipping into rose tinted spectacle mode. My first was a 1.6 GT4 a rare(ish) MKIII based on the 1600L with the 6 pot dash from the sport and big fat stripes down the side. I have a nice scar on my forehead to remember her by! My favourite was a 2.0GL with the engine from a mates RS2000 that had been cam'ed and ported with twin webbers and a fabricated exhaust manifold with only a large dia' backbox on a homebrew exhaust, 2.8i front seats with no door strips or badges. It was gold, sounded horrendous and went everywhere with either the throttle or the brakes in "full on mode", I loved that car. There were many others too but I will always remember "Goldie"
  21. A good while ago, i posted that i thought the car was a little sluggish. There were various replies and as a result I suspected the MAF might be the culprit. I never did anything about it as It wasnt that bad and as the old Gal's just a 2nd car i couldn't really be bothered! it was like that when I bought it, and now when I think about it, there was something not quite right about the exhaust note. Well last week things took a turn for the worse, the exhaust which had a slight blow from the flexi part of the front pipe got a lot louder, the power became non existent and acceleration was terrible. Well I went to a local exhaust place to get the front pipe changed. I mentioned the power loss and the guy (a mate) said without even looking at the car it sounds like your cats FAULTY (at least the word he used began with an F!). Anyhow the car was duly lifted up and a tap on the cat resulted in a loose thud from within and a horrible cringeing sensation in my back pocket. Well, new front pipe and cat fitted and the difference is unbelievable, nice and quiet with crisp acceleration-sorted! The cost
  22. I know there are several posts covering electrical problems dur to faulty wiring looms in the doors, but I suspect mine may not be the loom. Ive done a quick search and couldn't find a problem like mine. So here goes- The drivers electric window has just lost its one touch close feature, one touch open works but close does not. also when i keep my finger on the switch, the window gets to fully closed and then opens again as if the obstruction sensing feature kicks in. In order to shut the window fully, i have to keep tapping the switch up a little until at a time until its closed. Any ideas anyone?
  23. The was a case in the local paper about 2 years ago (News & Star), about a bloke with a sharan bought from a west cumbrian dealer long before I had a Galaxy. His windows kept steaming up, so after many failed attempts to rectify the problem, he parked the car outside the dealers on a busy main road with large placards telling everyone about his problem! Appartently the dealer was bringing him out tea & buscuits throughout his demonstration! Here found a link to it in another paper! Steamy windows
  24. Spot on, have mine to do soon, what do you use to wind it in?
