  1. Check the wiring looms between doors, common fault plenty on here about how to check and repair.
  2. The flats on struts are standard, I recently replaced both struts top bearings n rubber bung,, when putting on top hats I removed play on struts by cutting thick rubber washer and putting that on top of each strut top before tightening down, now I can go over our sleeping policemen without the double clunk, also uprated rear bushes in wishbone with solid rubber ones. after all that I still had a small knocking noise, which turned out to be anti roll bar bushes, they had passed inspection at the mot but had gone hard, as to drop links don't buy cheap as they last two mins, hope you sort it.
  3. It sounds like a problem I had with vibration coming up the steering especially on heavy breaking, it turned out to be inner track rods, I also changed the rack myself but put on my old inner rods, changed both, worked a treat.
  4. Could you not pick one up from a breakers, try Silverlake in Hampshire, very good breakers, also on the internet and they ship out parts, worth a try!
  5. There lies your problem, shorting of all the wires in the loom, I had all four doors and also the rear hatch to do, when they all start shorting weard and unusual things start to happen, plenty on here to point you in the right direction to do repairs.
  6. Ok guys, have I got the highest millage gal? mk1 2.3 97 reg ghia X with 225754 miles on the clock?
  7. Check the rear mounting on your wishbone because when the rubber splits and parts the wishbone tends to whip up and down thus knocking around in it's housing when you accelerate and decelerate also going over bumps
  8. Hi, as per my previous messages the wind back tool kit from Ebay for only 23 quid is just the job, can supply no of part if you want.
  9. Sounds to me as though you have split the rear rubber mount in your wishbone, give it a good prise with a big shifter or put wheel brace on wheel, put lots of load on as though your tightening nuts while looking at rear of wishbone if it moved a lot you have knackered it by pulling away quick! I've upgraded mine they are solid rubber!
  10. I have 2.3 ghia X petrol, I replaced every item on suspension (apart from roll bar) and still had clunks, it turned out to be play on struts, I could get a bic Biro under top cap, so I made two thick rubber washers/spacers and put them under the caps, it's a pleasure to drive now no knocking going over sleeping policemen, before the complete suspension unit was bouncing because of the play at the top of struts.
  11. Try prising your rear bush on the wishbone, if the rubber has parted the wishbone rattles up and down knocking on the chassis.
  12. Did you have any luck?
  13. Does anyone out there know where the fuse is located for cruise control in a mk1 2.3 ghia x and perhaps the relay before I go nuts!
  14. It sure is now you just need the unit and a year off work to try to get it working!!!!!
  15. Anyone know where the CC relay is situated in the 2.3 mk1 as I can't seem to locate it anywhere? Also the ECU .
  16. Try this, with the car sat normal, arm yourself with a large screwdriver or prise bar, prise the rear of wish none against chassis to check the state of rear bush, the bush may look good but a good yank may show movement, if they have gone you you can get what feels like transmission backlash, if the rubber bush has gone completely you can get a knocking noise under the footwell. Also don't forget inner trackrods as they can cause brake wobble real bad!
  17. If you have a sun roof, remove sun visors and rubber door seal to have a gander at the drains from sunroof, they have a tendency to come disconnected, if so put back using jubilee clips. If they are ok open sunroof, make sure you are on level ground, pour water into two front corners, if they are both clear you should see water dropping under wheel arch, if blocked remove plastic covers under wheel arches to locate rubber teat which will be blocked. Good luck Clive
  18. My gals OBD2 and she's 97 2.3 ghia X.
  19. Got the same problem! Had it for the past 3 years or so, hope you get an answer it's a job I've always put off!
  20. Hi I had same problem and it turned out to be inner cable that had rusted and jammed up, this also put rear brakes on causing the disc to glow red!
  21. I had a similar problem so called out the AA man and it turned out to be a poor connection on lead to solenoid, quick clean and tighten sorted it out.
  22. The pump has a tendency to top up with water so it's worth taking out and checking inside.
  23. It is behind the nearside indicator on mine, move 2.3, I had same problem, rubber connection pipe had perished, replaced and it worked, now I've lost cruise again! Checked the pipe n pump and they are ok so my problem is elsewhere, what I can't find is the relay? I'm going to strip out all the gubbins behind the peddles and check that they are all serviceable and hope that sorts it!
  24. Good luck there, I've a mk1 2.3 and would love to do that if possible, I've converted mine to Lpg so another gear would be great for economy, keep in touch if you get any advice.
