Mk 2 A/c Issues
chromedome replied to 56k_warning's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Most people turn the a/c off during winter and seals and other joints dry up and leak. This obviously causes low pressure which can make the climate control flash because of this fault. It is best to leave the a/c on all year round in the auto setting. Halfords should have put a dye in the system and checked for leaks, did they do this? -
Could be that someone has put a white bulb in it instead of an orange one. Is it a Mk1 or Mk2 Galaxy?

.I just wanted to say that this site just gets better and better as more and more people share their problems and fixes. Unfortunately my health is not what it should be and I have to rely on garages for many of the larger repairs. Because of the information on this site I can get a very good idea what's wrong and the most probable fix so I don't get sucked in by dodgy garages. Fortunately I have found a very good independent. Special thanks to the administrators who keep this site running and thanks to everyone who give their advice freely to help others. Keep up the good work. PS How do I get my avatar back?

First Mot Failure
chromedome replied to chromedome's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Car now has an MOT. The headlight bulb retaining spring/clip was bent causing the bulb not to seat properly so I hadn't fitted it upside down. -
Knew I Shouldn't Have Bought An Auto...
chromedome replied to BridgeyBoy's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The cabling to the auto box has been known to chaff through where it passes over various metal surfaces causing shorts and making the gearbox ecu go into limp home mode. Check the wiring for any evidence of wear. Limp home mode for the auto box is normally 3rd gear selected. -

I find it much quicker to remove the headlight(s), job done in about ten minutes and no red bulbs. -
First Mot Failure
chromedome replied to chromedome's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
seatkid I bought the car back in 2005 and it only had 6k on the clock so I don't see how one is born every minute. Yes I had managed to fit the bulb incorrectly. It was not sitting properly as mentioned. I don't know about the inner drive shaft boot but the failure referred to a document section in the MOT test. Flexible brake hose had been rubbing against the inside of the front wheel so does need changing, the system will need bleeding after it is changed. -
Hi Galaxy failed it's MOT today on the following:- Offside Headlamp bulb out of alignment, apparently fitted upside down. That's me I'm afraid. Nearside flexible brake hose twisted and rubbing on inside of wheel. Nearside Inner CV Boot split (removal of driveshaft required). Been quoted £140 - £150 to fix which I thought was quite reasonable. Not bad for an 8 year old car, however, only 51,960 miles on the clock. I had car as a Ford Direct car back in 2005 so the mileage is definitely genuine. HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE

How To Check Aux Heater Air Temp Sensor

Sorry this is opening an old post but does anyone know the part number for the Mk2 and where to get it? -
Aux Heater Memory Error
chromedome replied to chromedome's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
A bit more of an update. I was still getting the occasional failure unless I fiddled with the climate control panel. I bought some electrical contact cleaner, removed the connectors one at a time and sprayed the connectors with the cleaner. Early days but the aux heater does appear to start earlier and has not failed yet. Car electronics will always amaze me......................... -
Noisy Clattery Diesel
chromedome replied to chrislloydie's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Check the aux belt tensioner. If you look down at the belt you will see a white pulley/tensioner. If it's jumping about it needs changing. When mine failed, early starts with the screen heaters on made it sound like a tractor. Tensioner changed and now sounds ok and tensioner not jumping about. -
Aux Heater Memory Error

Thanks for the link, at least it shows me how to remove the CCU. The one shown is a bit different to the MK2 Galaxy but was interesting if that the gizmo behind the air intake looks to be a fan and sensor combined. Glad I didn't spray some WD40 in. I used an airline and Dyson alternatively and managed to get a little bit of fluff out. It would not take a lot of fluff to stop a fan of this size. At least I now have toastie feet and have hopefully not got to get under the car in this weather. This episode has been a real eye opener for me thanks to you two guys and hopefully it will help others who are having similar issues. -
Aux Heater Memory Error
chromedome replied to chromedome's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
If I remove the CC Unit to clean it does it need to be reset by Frauds? Has anybody got a link showing an exploded view of the unit. After a fairly long idle period I have to tap the unit and mess about with the temperatures to make the booster heater start up. Thanks again for the help so far. -
Aux Heater Memory Error
chromedome replied to chromedome's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Acecard, why put computers in cars. :glare: . Bring back plugs, points and carbureters (what some people say). I am quite good with homes pc's but in the car arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!. Thanks for the input though. A garage did read this code for me and said it was an ECU fault. :18: -
Aux Heater Memory Error
chromedome replied to chromedome's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Seatkid it looks like you are spot on. I went out and poked around with a long bristled paint brush followed by the Dyson. Put my ear to the unit and heard it whirring away so went out for a ride to pick my son up from work and viola. I must ask.........................how on earth did you discover that this may be a problem? If I went to Frauds it would have been "£500 mate for a new booster". I seems I had two problems. First the secondary water pump was knackered and this one. Am I right in saying that the climate control panel only uses the left hand vent as you look at it? This one has been getting fluffed up recently. Thanks again for your valued information, you are a star. Unlike some I like to publish my success/thanks for others to use. More often than not you never here any feedback. -
I keep getting a fault code 65535 telling be I have a memory error. Once cleared the aux heater starts up straight away. You can switch off the ignition for a few minutes and the fault does not come back, however, leave it a few hours and up it pops. I have read that this may be a power supply issue so could it be my battery because it is getting a bit tired starting first thing in the morning? Thanks.

Heeeeeeelp Please

I would double check the connections on the relay socket as it sounds like a connection is becoming detached when you fold the fuse box back together. -
I have had my 2005 Mk2 Galaxy Ghia 130PS 6 Speed Manual for nearly 8 years and have contributed to that forum for as long. I am looking at buying a Mk3 2012 Galaxy Titanium X 2.2 200 TDCI Auto. Can give me some details on the auto box, how many speeds, etc. Thank you and I look forward to joining this section of the forum.

What is the model number of the radio? Are there any signs that a mobile phone had been installed? -
Oil Level Check, Warm Or Cold Engine
chromedome replied to chrislloydie's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I think it has to do with high pressure on the camshaft so oil to VW Spec 505.01 is required to prevent premature wear.. I would think if you have used oil for the PD engine you should be ok. -
Oil Level Check, Warm Or Cold Engine
chromedome replied to chrislloydie's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I have always supplied/used Castrol Edge Turbo Diesel (Spec VW505.01) and I must admit my oil is remarkably clean to others I've seen. Xavier, I would think after sampling some of your home brew everything would look like a hashed area. -

Don't over fill otherwise you risk damaging the CAT, and I don't mean the neighbours one  -
Gearbox Or Not The Gearbox?
chromedome replied to phughson's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Sounds like a botched job. Difficulty selecting gears could be they have not fitted the linkage cables correctly. ABS light on could be they have broken an ABS ring on one of the drive shafts. I would return the car to the garage and get them to fix it. I have read somewhere on the forum that the solid flywheel conversion is not entirely successful, do a search. -
Getting Line-in For Mp3 On Mk Ii Ghia
chromedome replied to booms's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
You can buy MP3 adapters that transmit using a radio frequency. You then tune the radio to that frequency and voila. I think there are adapters that utilise the CD changer connection but you then forfeit the CD option.
