  1. my own personal opinion would be go and pick your car back up and take it somewhere else if the car is as it was when it went in then the fault has not been fixed also get the parts that they have they may charge for labour or not but getb everything off them and go else where
  2. hi avengerman mine is a 1998 mk1 galaxy and it is under the ash tray but the ash tray has two parts to it i pulled the first bit out and thought it's not there but there is another bit that comes out too take that out and you should see the carpet and the socket towards the front of the car hope this helps
  3. hi moz if you type innotec turbo cleaner in youtube then scroll down to autoinform online magazine: how to cleaning variable vane turbos and that shows you how to use the 3 stage turbo cleaning kit hope this helps you
  4. i had turbo problems just randomly lost turbo power so i replaced all hoses that got anything to do with the turbo then one day i drove out a car park and the car was smoking like hell then when i pulled over it revved it's knackers off all by it's self till i stalled it using 5th gear got it back home took the pipe off on the inlet side of the turbo and there was loads of oil (oil seals had gone) so sent it to a garage they replaced the turbo all was ok till the next weekend then it lost power again so had a look on here and seen a post that said replace the MAP sensor pipe in the ecu this was the last thing i would try if it didn't work then the gal was going to be sold when i found the pipe one end was just slightly loose at one end replaced the pipe and had no trouble since i got all the pipes off e-bay 4mtrs of the 4mm and had some slightly smaller stuff in the shed for the ecu (MAP) pipe. I would do as i done and check your turbo is ok first take the inlet side pipe off and see if there is oil or the turbine shaft is loose then the n75 valve and hoses if this still don't fix it try the MAP pipe or sensor it's self (MAP= max air pressure) not (MAF= max air flow) i don't have a vag com so it would have been easier to know the sensor that is picking the fault up and gone from there
  5. cabin filter on my mk1 is under the bonnet there is a shelf at the back of the engine bay you need to take this out there shoud be a bolt or two either side next to the wings also a bolt in the middle then the shelf slides out you will then see the cabin filter on the back right hand side, e-bay have the filters on for a few quid cheap to replace so worth a try
  6. hi i have use re-con drive shafts from ECP (also from euro parts) but not for the galaxy they were for other cars and had no problem but i suppose it could be luck of the draw hope you get things sorted and let everyone know when you fix it
  7. there shoudn't be any bubbles in the fuel line is your a diesel or petrol ?
  8. hi a bit random but i also had a loud knocking noise when i went over bumps had the car up on a ramp checked all the usual anti-roll bars, drop links etc... all solid so back down and less than 10 mtrs from the ramp noise was still there then a couple of weeks later i found by accident that the battery was loose (leaned on the battery to try and look at engine mounts (got desperate) and the battery moved got a new bracket from scrappy's and bingo noise gone. The battery was nice and tight when i got the car but must of vibrated loose
  9. hi ther rev counter doesn't usually move only once the engine is started as for the not starting if you have fuel and spark i would do a compression test all the pressures shoud be roughly equal in all cylinders if no compression is found then try the timing belt let us know how you get on
  10. just remove the reply
  11. i have a AHU engine i done mine by my self a few months back the only tool i needed to make was a tool to tention the tentioner back up (old strip of steel with a couple of old small allen keys weldedto it )try'd to follow haynes to do it i only had trouble with the marks on the tentioner it was on about, there is a line between the two holes (where the tentoner tool goes)and a little bit lug on the washer like center bit these two bits have to line up for the correct tention then nip the nut up on the tentioner it is always good practice to turn the engine over by hand to check if it hits/touches the valves p.s i put my own marks on all the pulleys as i didn't have ant locking tools
  12. if any one has a idea i have a two button remote for my mk1 galaxy the key works fine and central locking but the remote doesn't seem to be working the led on it flashes when button is pressed but nowt happens i've tried programming the key to the car but nothing happens other than the led on the door card stays on then goes off after a while, Is the receiver goosed or is there something i've missed thanks
  13. are the brakes ok (not spongy/hard to brake) would agree check the the vacume hose to the brake servo?
  14. have a look at the tentioner the only reason i can see for your belt coming off is if it's loose which is the tentioners job to keep it tight (may need renewing)
  15. thanks for the help can't understand the diagram but at least i know it's something to do with the independant heating/ventilation
  16. i replaced my turbo you need the exact turbo numbers on the side there will be a little plate on the side mine was a garrett something or other cost me £420 fitted but that was a mate of a mate that got it cost price and only charged half the labour cost to fit it there is a place in darlington (north east) that do re-con turbo's they were the cheapest will hunt the number out for you if you want i'm sure it was only £10 postage too
  17. the only solid way to find out is to get the locking kit
  18. hi seat kid th fuse set up is like mine the fuse i'm on about is a green one on the bottom right hand side next to the white 25 amp laying flat from your diagram i think its the 34 which has a pic of a fan on think this is the problem would you agree thanks for your help
  19. hi chris i done my timingbelt on my AHU 1.9 TDI 90bhp got a kit off e bay and i didn't use a locking kit i put a bit of masking tape on each pully and the engine block spay painted along the side of the tapes then pulled the tape off so it left a straight line then took all the stuff off and the tentioner then the belt replaced the belt +tentioner i used a old spanner and two small allen key bits (one's used in the interchangable screw drivers) welded them on to get the two prong tool then adjusted the tention and tighted the nut the first attempt was a tooth out and it wouldn't start so repeated the process and made sure ALL the marks lined up with the tention on the belt and hey presto if fired first click there is hope this helps if i can help with anything else just ask
  20. thanks for the help will try replacing the connectors and fuse but does any one know what fuse it's for then i can see if it that that is shorting out too thanks again
  21. :P hi all i have a mk1 1.9 tdi 90 bhp galaxy i am looking for the fuse in the bottom right hand corner of the fuse box it looks like a green one does any one know what this fuse it's for as i don't have the fuse box cover to find out it is just that it's melted and there is not much left of it i replaced it a while ago then forgot about it till a could smell melted plastic had a look and the metal bit of the fuse is still intact but the plastic and a bit of the fuse box is melted any ideas of the cause or even what the fuse is for thanks for any help
  22. if you get this sorted then let me know as i'm after one too
  23. when i done mine i got a kit which had belt, tentioner pully and a roller pully in it and then i was advised to do the waterpump too as putting the new tention on the old water pump can cause the bearing to start to leak mine was the AHU engine mk1 galaxy i needed a tool to put the correct tention on the tentioner i welded two screwdriver bits (small torx bits) to a shaft and used that to tention it just make sure you mark up all pullys so they are clearly visible it helps to put the car in 5th gear hope this helps
  24. my guess if it's that random it could ba a loose/corroded wire or terminal probably best off starting with the wires at relay 30
