i take it the wipers dont budge?..could be seized or if you have had intermittant wiper problems, you could have burnt the motor out. to unseize you will need to remove the linkage.

True..there are some crap ones on ebay..but word of mouth is better..i would recommend the seller i used as he was patient with my endless questions and i had next day delivery plus it was a genuine bosch one. Oi..you keep editing your post when i am replying to you.lol again..there are places where you can go and do an exchange..take your old..get a new one.But make sure it is the correct one for your vehicle as there are different ones for different model/years of galaxy etc..

There are some reputable sellers on ebay, as that is where i got my replacement from..granted you must know exactly what it is you need.On the old MAF will be a part number.

Yep and yep... you can drive with it disconnected, yes it will affect mpg ..my Gal had a disconnected MAF for a few months till i was allowed to start repairing her and it was the first thing i did.She did pass an MOT with it disconnected, so effect on emissions can be debateable..depends how good your emissions were before hand i guess.As for affecting performance, once you get a new MAF on there it will be like a ferrari compared to what it is now!.

well you can pick up fuel caps relatively cheaply these days..try a breakers yard..but i dont know if driving without one would affect performance..though i wouldnt recommend it as it is there for a purpose.

there is like a socket thingy on a clip that goes to the MAF..just unplug that.No need to remove the whole MAF.But make sure that you cover the connectors so they dont get filthy.You can drive the car with it unplugged.

Sorry to hear that it is broken, you will be looking at a couple of hundred quid for a new one IIRC.How did you manage to break it?.You didnt try and force it did you?? Not sure what the eqiv part number is, but im sure if you give VW a call and tell them what you have they may be able to help., failing that..they do crop up on ebay or sometimes in breakers yards.

It is an idea to mark on the screen where the wipers llay, and also make sure the linkage is in the park position before you put it back into the car, you do this by connecting it up.then carefully holding it and turn the ignition to the first click, if the linkage is out of sync it will go into the correct position.Watch your fingers.

Im beginning to the think the FAQ should be in a subforum of its own......i mean..its pinned in technical i know...what about..catagoriseing the FAQs???..i.e..=MK11, MKI...body, engine etcc???..just a thought.

chit chat as you call it is what keeps a forum going, along side members helping each other.There is banter in all walks of life. WE are here to help and most of what we know has been passed down from one member to another or learnt the hard way. A smell of burning i would guess would point towards the motor being burnt out.Usually there are symptoms before this happens. yes we were all new once, and usually newbies dont bother with searching and post their problems..this is fine.But you have searched, but didnt like the banter in the threads so didnt bother reading the threads..that is what got some members backs up.
