Reliability Of Galaxy Aircon
gazza007 replied to Ivor_E_Tower's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Well I hope mine holds out now. It's nice to see that when I hit the switch now any condensation clears instantly. Incedently SEAT are going to take up several matters with the dealership who failed to fix my problems. -

Reliability Of Galaxy Aircon
gazza007 replied to Ivor_E_Tower's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Well no surprises, the system didn't last long again. I got in touch with SEAT customer services a couple of weeks ago. This time they booked the car in to David Cook Motors Chadderton (Near Oldham). The technician had a good chat with me and I provided them with all the history & saga's from Bell's. He was interested if they had looked at the front radiator & collector/dryer unit. Anyway picked up the car today. He confirmed that there was a leak at the front of the car and that the pipe had corroded on the connections, so they took the front end off and replaced dryer/radiator etc. He said that this was an area that they reguarly looked at as it was prone to problems. They also fitted a new cover that goes over the battery area which Bells had obviously removed at some stage and not replaced. Fitted my mudflaps that Jimstdi had sent me last year and lubricated my jerky electric window. I must admit it was nice to have a technician who was prepared to investigate & actually isolate the fault rather than just changing parts & hoping for the best. He is conviced that all will be OK now. Just shows that you should never give up & fight for your rights!! ;) -

We've had a fair dumping of snow in the last 18 hours and the visibility near the A pillar had been poor you also get a bit of steam-up with the cold ice in that area. Also the snow tends to drop beneath the blades into the air intake area. I think some serious design work needed for next model.

No problem, you are basically replacing the factory fitted SEAT Scala with something better. I replaced mine with a Kenwood Unit that will play CD's & MP3. MP3 is compressed music format, you can rip files from your existing CD's or download files off the Net. It means that you can get about 10 albums on a standard CD. See following thread for more info replacing Scala Unit Gareth

No light on dash for dipped. No seat belt lights. Wires are probably for seatbelt tentioner activation. Get yourself a replacement CD head unit, as I've done much cheaper & far better quality. :(

Not sure this applies to Ford but on SEAT & VW but Battery wire A4 pin yellow from ISO connects to red ignition cable on Head unit & A7 red from ISO connects to Head unit battery cable yellow. If not the same as VW red to red & yellow to yellow. These configurations should enable ignition control with battery feed to retain memory etc. hope this helps

Independant Rear Heating
gazza007 replied to handy andy's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Plenty of threads on this item if you do a search but basically the Diesel Aux heater that kicks in when outside temp is low or coolent temp is below 60 (I think) can be set by a timer. The unit requires a 2nd battery and will run for about 30 mins. It is not for rear heating. Never seen it on UK spec vehicles but would be a nice option. -
I've just had a Kenwood single CD/MP3 unit fitted, I had a local Car Audio specialist fit the unit as I didn't have the keys to remove the FF Scala Unit. He fitted an in-line aerial booster for no extra charge as he said that it is something he does for all VAG vehicles as it improves the AM performance. I have to admit that I didn't previously have a reception problem but the Scala Unit may have had some kind of amplifier built in. On the other hand Sportq did the same installation but did it himself and didn't fit a booster and his Kenwwod is fine, so he thinks that if there is a booster it may be elsewhere.

Replacing Seat Scala Hu With Kenwood Mp3 Player
gazza007 replied to a topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Followed this is up, apparently you have to have one or the other. Other function was unique to factory fit Scala. I've decided to have permanent power (changed the wiring) so I can leave unit on if kids want to stay in the car. The power off function then comes in to play to protect the battery. I guess I will have to disable it on long journeys to stop the unit turning off. I just burned a few albums to CD as MP3's. Unit displays folders and tracks and has no delays. Very pleased with it & would recommend rather than buying multichanger only -
Replacing Seat Scala Hu With Kenwood Mp3 Player

I've now fitted my Kenwood, it sound great.. The only thing I've noticed is that you can't turn on the power without the keys in, as with Scala Unit and this worked on & off with ignition too. I wired as recc by Kenwood in instructions for VW types . A7 red vehicle to yellow on unit and A4 yellow to ignition red. The unit will take & eject a CD without the keys. I can't understand why you have Power off timer for standby when you can't turn off without keys, unless it is for constant on without ignition wiring. Is this the way that that it works? -
My last Service was at 42k 3 years old Sep 2003 and I was told it depends and that mine was 50K.

Interesting, they have a 90PS Pumpe Duse in the range or is this just for Europe?

I would make sure Autoglass sort it out, as they wrecked it.

Been having loads of condensation recently and rear washer performace not as good. Hey presto damp patch in footwell. Followed your instructions SA. Pipe had come slightly apart. Hopefully no more problems. I still think the air-con is Sh****d as demisting taking ages. Will wait till it gets warmer though before I vent my fury on SEAT. Are you still doing the Pollen & oil pics SA. Good stuff. :o

Curious Temperature Readings From Engine?
gazza007 replied to Jim's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Done Under Warranty, Dealer has had a reputation for not giving me invoices for warranty work despite my requests. When Air-Con compressor was changes I asked them for the invoice and they put a felt tip through the cost. When I had a look under light could see -
Curious Temperature Readings From Engine?

I had this trouble last year, went the other way to 0, took 2 visits to dealer to fix. New sender unit required to fix problem. -
I'm surprised Frizzell is that much I paid about

I've noted rather more than unusual misting up recently, I think it's just down to a large glass area and with the sun pouring through and then getting a rapid cooling late in the day. I am a little concerned that my Air-con may still be duff as it isn't clearing too quickly but from what I remember it won't kick in if the temp is below 5 degs. Will wait till the weather warms up to prove it, then I'll go back to SEAT again!!

Same price as before unlike the petrol optimax. Out of interest do Shell supply any of the Supermarkets as I tend to use these. As SA said I've never noted a difference using various brands previously.
