Reliability Of Galaxy Aircon
gazza007 replied to Ivor_E_Tower's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Well got car back after a week at Bells. No worksheet of actions but they tell me that they have changed the evaporator and did leak tests with the dash out and all seems clear. Said they have tested pressures twice with no loss, although admitted that will just have to see how things go. Seat customer Services followed things up with a phone call and advised to call if fails again. Windows cleared quickly when they steamed up. Won't really get a proper check unless we get a warm sunny day. To their credit they have repaired my stone chips on the bonnet, big scratch on rear bumper & refunded -

I would be interested how they put the votes together. I wonder if they used proportional representation? -
Reliability Of Galaxy Aircon
gazza007 replied to Ivor_E_Tower's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
At last mine is back in on 10/11/03 hopefully for the final time. Have refused to speak to dealer now and left it all to SEAT cust service. Because the Diesel engine is extremely efficient it doesn't give off too much heat that's why they have the Aux Heater to boost the coolent temps. Mine doesn't take that long but I tend to keep the fan low & put the re-circ on and the rear heater. I'll make sure I get the timer for the Aux heater on my next car. -
Out of interest SA, is it the same procedure for the Alhambra? Thanks

Replacing Seat Scala Hu With Kenwood Mp3 Player
gazza007 replied to a topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Just had a look at a site www.justkenwood.co.uk. Gave them a call. The chap reckons that you can just swap them although you will need a VW wiring kit for the powered aerial in the rear quarter window. Also some useful fitting info. :D -
Reliability Of Galaxy Aircon
gazza007 replied to Ivor_E_Tower's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
  Guess what, as predicted my system is pumping out warm air again, put a probe in and it said 14 oC. Took the car for a check at a place in Stockport. Confirmed that pressures were low and only 360g in system. He put the car on jack and had a look with flouresent torch but couldn't find a leak. He suspects that it's the evaporator as that is hidden behind the dash. Anyway called Mr Delve at Bells SEAT and went Nuts. He said he will order an Evaporator just in case. He said that when they replaced the compressor last time they used a sniffer to check for leaks and all was OK. I suggested that the compressor had probably failed due previous leaks. He said he would refund the money for the checks that I had done. We shall see what happens. Going to notify SEAT customer service too. -

did all that with mine and still leaked even after the dye test. Not convinced mine is 100% even after the compressor replacement. Was running about 11 celcius yesterday but with the outside temp about 18 outside its within the limits on the chart SEAT sent me. Will have to wait till summer now when the temp gets up again to see if it goes cooler. At least the part is covered by 2 year warranty now that its 3 years old, I still have some come back. The place where I had my MOT done do an air-con service for -

Morning, Is your car new? If so get it back. Be careful if pre-facelift car, ECU is in that area and was moved in 2000 year models because of leaks etc. There have been various threads on water ingress in the passenger footwell due to blocked scuttle drains & rear washer water pipes coming apart. Unlikely to be air-con as this will evaporate Do a search but dont forget to set to 365 days. All the best Gaz

Had a similar problem with my Laguna Estate. The High level LED brake light went as a result. Not much play in the wires. Renault claimed they had to replace the rear screen along with the LED as it was all contected. I had a real moan and in the end they managed to replace the light unit.

Aux Heater ? And Other Noises
gazza007 replied to Jeff115's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The smell reminds me when I was a child and my Gran had a triangular shaped parrafin heater in her kitchen that ran off Esso Blue. Another memory of the smell is the days when I used to go plane spotting at Manchester in the days when you went on the old piers in my parker and got a blast from the jets on the old comets & 707's as they started up. Even after driving a while I've noticed that the system is still running when I've got out of the car. -

On my manual system putting the dial to the screen automatically turns on the air-con (A/C light comes on)but you can then turn it off. To be honest running the system even when warming provides a much more comfortable driving environment and keeps all the windows nice & clear especially with everybody in. Also I want to make sure that it is still OK following my various problems. -

I think if I ordered a new car I would have the timer option to get it nice & warm. I wonder if you can have a retro fit, would imagine that it would be expensive. -
Martin Is this the unit that is already on the car or one supplied with the Unit. Ps How are you finding the Unit? Especially on MP3 performance.

Reliability Of Galaxy Aircon
gazza007 replied to Ivor_E_Tower's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
It would be interesting if there have been any modifications to newer models and if Ford/Seat/VW have acknowledged that they have a problem with the systems and are prepared to modify older vehicles. Perhaps an email to the CS dept of each company with a link to this forum may help. The other concern is that the dealerships don't seem to have the expertise in identyifing and correcting the problems. They have enough trouble putting the correct oil and oil level in the cars. -

Ivor, Bredbury hall club = pick up joint. Dally, I know how you feel. It drives you nuts. From the chart I was sent by SEAT the temp depends on how warm it is outside and seems to go cooler as it gets warmer(see above). Possibly as not to thrash the system when not needed or so that it isn't too cold coming out on the passengers. Would love to get my hands on a proper tech manual. All the best. -

Well they've not asked me out yet.... Air Con holding out for now.. Did you know there is a SEAT dealer on Middleton road off Broadway. Generally what I do is call round the dealers in the UK(Works phone!) and ask questions and see how many answers tie up. One guy who seems to know is stuff is called Quillan(unusual name) at SEAT Stoke-on-Trent.
