  1. Hound the hell out of them. Insist the line is dead, they won't bother otherwise....if the find out it isn't just tell them that the fault is intermittant. Don't take no for an answer, give them the usual story about your great auntie Doris being on her death bed and you are in a rubbish mobile area....blah de balh de blah. The line test option is pretty rubbish and very rarely detects a crackly line p.s. just check your telephone sockets in the house are not wet ! Sometimes water can come in down the cable and through the hole into the socket. I assume that you tried the phone direct into a socket and not via any extension cable or similar. p.p.s. is your wireless router an asdl one....could replace that USB...... p.p.p.s. I will just dial into the your BT exchange and see which other operators have equipment there. Back in a mo.
  2. But they got your money ! Which is all Ford garages exist for. Cathy, your remote is knackered.......find someone friendly and borrow their remote to see if you can programme it into your car...this will prove it is the remote.
  3. ABS is only there as a sales gimmick, you won't miss it.
  4. Are you sure it is the line crackling and not the phone ? I assume you have tried another phone and it is the same ? If it is the line then phone BT up from a different line or mobile and report your home line as dead. Remember to unplug your phones so they can't phone you back to test this..... Eventually they wil have to send an engineer out to test the line who will plug his phone in hear it crackling and fix the fault. It is most likely that water has gotten onto a joint somewhere with the recent rain that everyone has had.....apart from here in the East Midlands where the sun has shone consistently since May. Alternatively if your line is ok......change your phone whilst walking past the bin with your modem.
  5. Seatkid is correct ( as usual ) Mine never used to flash ( until on of the flaps started sticking ). It clearly indicates a fault and requires investigating.....dependant on cost of investigation! The garage is lying ( as usual ).
  6. For starters the Speedtouch is a piece of crap ( sorry to disagree with SeatKid but it is ). get a half decent router and bin it. Also the 7.6mbps is actually 8Mbps ( the usual advertising lies ) remember a Kilobit is actually 1024 bits, a megabit is 1024 kilobits and therefore 7.6 x 1024 x 1024 equals @ 8,000,000 bits. near enough as dammit, I doubt your USB can handle this anyway.....ignore what it is misleading and does not indicate the status of your connection. The Speedtouch has a USB 1.1 connection max 12Mbit/s......if you have no other USB equipment on the same internal USB highway....most likely you haveand they will fight for this bandwidth. Also it is line powered from the USB hub......NOT THE USB SKT.....several sockets will be one the same bus..and therefore as it draws the maximum power available from the hub, anything else on the hub will have to fight for the power, almost certainly one of them will lose if not both. If you insist on keeping this modem then make sure that you have no other USB equipment connected and cross your fingers and hope to die....sorry got carried away again. In brief avoid all USB adsl modems and use a tried and tested network connection to a seperate adsl Router........much more reliable connection and nearly all provide a hardware firewall as well.
  7. First thought is buy an adsl router ( netgear or whatever ) and chuck the speedtouch in the skip. Second thought is that it could be a USB problem, some other evice confilicting with your modem. Third thought is that you may need a different driver for your modem if you are on 8Meg broadband. Have you checked the support pages for your modem..... http://www.thomson-broadband.co.uk/codepag...p;ProductID=471
  8. You have a wee bit of a problem there ! Can you speak to your ADSL modem and find out what speed it is connected at ? see example below Modem ADSL Firmware VersionA2pB018e.d16f Modem StatusConnected DownStream Connection Speed1152 kbps UpStream Connection Speed288 kbps VPI0 VCI38 If you have trouble with this....what make and model is your modem ?
  9. I would wait to see what benefits Vienna offers
  10. Someone got out the wrong side of his pram this morning then.
  11. I believe you started it ? :D
  12. Yes....sorry........touched a nerve there ! Maz you been playing again.....just noticed my sig.
  13. I remember those........put a Tiger in your tank ! Think I've got a sloth in mine ! Mind you it is classed as an endangered species now......reproduction problems.
  14. I would have thought you would burn that amount of oil in a month. No...maybe its just mine then. Alternatively renew oil filter there's probabably that amount in sitting in the old one.
  15. As an ex-NHS employee I can assure you that they are not perfect. However...before people start slagging them off they need to realise what is actually happening. The current practice when a member of the NHS leaves/retires is not to replace them in around 75% of cases. This workload is placed on the existing staff. For example I ended up with less staff than were actually required to do the job, which was based on a 24/7 shift pattern, there were not physically enough staff to cover the shifts even with lone working. Overtime was actively discouraged by the higher management....who were receiving their orders from above. As a department we had to consider the implications of obeying the senior management or putting patients lives in risk. Needless to say we ignored senior management and got severe flack about the overtime. The NHS is held together by the dedication and hard-working core staff. They are paid a wage far below that they would receive in the private sector. The majority of clerical and ancilliary staff are on the minimum wage...some were actually on less than this for a while ( yep this is true ). They have just been kicked in the teeth ( again ) by the Labour government who lied to them about their pay rise ( except in Scotland...there's a suprise ! ). Any other public company would have had their workers out on strike by now....however the government knows that the majority of NHS workers will not strike under any circumstances and therefore gets away treating them like sh!te.
  16. Air conn ?
  17. You did change the switch for the correct one....there are 2 and they are different....although they will physically fit in either position.......stick the old one back in and see if reverse works.
  18. When you finish the wine....hit her with the bottle..you know it makes sense. p.s. ever see the film "strangers on a train".
  19. Just something going through my mind
  20. Not with the amount of weight in the front it won't :P
  21. Points to remember........ Remember that it is better to use a cheap oil and change it more often than use an expensive oil and change it less. After a couple of thousand miles your expensive oil is worse than a new ultra cheapo. Cheap diesel rated oil is better than any ultra synthetic non-diesel oil ( when used in a diesel engine ). Diesel engines rely on the detergent qualities in the oil more than the oil quality...( within reason ). And lastly the manufacturers specs only apply to shiny new engines........if you got a 100k+ on the clock anything resembling oil will be just fine.
  22. What did the big J say........... Do unto others.....as you would have them do unto you...... Quite right in my book....just because other people are selfish I do not act the same. Turn the other cheek ( in your case you may have several ) and just take a deep breath and smile. Life is too short......enjoy the good bits and ignore the bad.
  23. Cant be me I like kids..........couldn't eat a whole one though.
  24. Yeh, I must have been charging more than you then !
  25. Why ?...........do you honestly think that old banger of yours will start ! :P
