  1. Be honest !....if you were from macclesfield would you tell everyone.. :) May just be a bit pressure loss through the relief valve in the header tank.....hopefully not the cylinder head gasket.
  2. Its a thermal fuse...easily replacable if you can find the correct one. Examples below. http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=470
  3. The gearbox going into limp mode can be caused by many things. The commonost is failure of the gearbox ECU.....or the ECU receiving implausible signals from other components. I would recommend using VagCom ( or similar diagnostic software/hardware ) to interogate the vehicle.........NOTE ......you have a Ford Engine and VagCom will not speak to this. Have a browse on Ebay .....there is lots of stuff on there....Diagnostics software hardware. Also plenty of copies of the Ford TIS manuals ( all illegal.....though I think most people on here have one ) The RED warning brake light means that there is a potentially critical failure of the braking system and the vehicle may be unsafe to drive ! The ABS light may just be a dodgy sensor or it may be picking up a problem with the braking system......best to ignore this for now as it does not affect the safe operation of the vehicle.
  4. Hi Mick.....and welcome. Thanks for your comments...however I would describe my knowledge as limited and i rely on mainly relaying information from more technically aware members. This manual is actually for a Left-hand drive Seat Alhambra so should be 99% ok for the Mk2 Galaxy....other than the controls will may be rversed left/right but should still be very helpful. Don't know when the 6 speed boxes came in....however it should be kind of obvious whether 6th is there or not :)
  5. You can look at the Coding in the Central Electronics. Try below...for further info. http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/V...ral_Electronics
  6. mejor que estar gorda y fea :16:
  7. Using vagcom...or similar....you can easily determine whether remote locking is available on your vehicle. Also it is worth getting for its other diagnostic capabilities. Or could always borrow someones key and try programming it to the car.
  8. Personally I would look about 8 inches above the hedgehog .....pic below
  9. Are you sure the belt is still correctly tensioned ?
  10. Not aware of any specific item for the Galaxy. Lots of generic big boxes available that should do the job......B&Q etc. There is a luggage net available for the Galaxy but it is pretty much useless.
  11. Mine's an old bag of spanners and I am too humiliated to post pics of it. But that's enough about the wife..... the car's too awful to post pics of as well.
  12. Assuming the vehicle has been for a drive after cleaning the switch....there is still a problem. The brake switch could still be faulty....it has 2 sets of contacts....1 for the brake lights and 1 for the Control Unit. There is no need to disconnect the battery to reset the ECU......EVER !....it is reset when you turn the ignition off.
  13. Hi Mike, Like the S-Max....very nice indeed. Glad your back :) Even gladder you've got rid of the Merc :)
  14. Nice to see correct use of the past participle though.
  15. Make sure you have about a half to one second gap between unlock turns. Sometimes you have to do 4 rather than 3 turns....can be a bit twitchy. Also make sure all your windows etc are closed ( maybe ! ).
  16. No ! The ballast resistor pack is for manual air-con ( dial switch going 1-2-3-4 ) and simply reduces the voltage to the blower by passing it through a different value resistor for each speed setting....except for speed 4 which bypasses the resistors. The Blower Motor Control Unit ( Hedgehog ) is an electronic device which provides a variable voltage to the Blower motor and is in turn controlled by the Automatic Climate Control unit. The Hedgehogs in the front and back of the vehicle are identical. It usually comes in Black or Red (below) although both are identical inside and fit both the Mk1 and Mk2 models. It is a VW unit ( no surprise there then ! ) part no. 1J0-907-521. Expect to pay more at Fords ( they have to make a profit you know ! ). As mentioned check operation by swapping with the rear one first. If it is faulty....check that it is not a dry solder joint ( the unit does come apart...brute force). Plenty available on ebay or breakers yard.
  17. I think someone ate all the pies
  18. Don't upset him ........I'm hoping he posts some pics of his mum..
  19. Hi BJ not seen you for a while.....you been away :(
  20. The Nissan is half the weight and has a petrol engine so it will accelerate very quickly. However it is a crap car. There are 2 TDI's at that age the 90PS which i have and the 110PS which has a bit more poke. Don't know which one you have ? Your mileage does seem low....however it could still be correct if you are in a lot of traffic. Would expect at least mid to low thirties though. It may be best for you to run diagnostics to see if any faults exist. VagCom is available quite cheaply.......do a search on the net for this or look at the FAQ in the technical section on this site.
  21. Possibly on a high performance engine.....not really on an old low powered Tdi. If you are looking for Performance then get a V6 petrol. Doubt it would make any difference to MPG. Also not sure about the legal aspect of this.
  22. Doesn't the Owners handbook say that tyre pressure should be 3 psi above recommended when towing a caravan. Therefore 48 psi would be the correct pressure.....near enough 49 don't know how accurate the tyre pressure monitor is.
  23. Most likely the motor speed controller ( hedgehog ! ) has died or burnt out. Its obvious to find behind the glovebox as the blower is plugged into it ( one small torx or phillips screw holds it in ). Plenty for sale on ebay or you could nick the one out your rear heater unit to test.....assuming its working as well.
  24. I told you not to let your wife drive your motor :(
