  1. :D :D provided there is enough play and the pipes haven't gone too far into the valve 15 mins should be plenty, wipe a smidgen of boss white on new valve seats beforehand , lubricates :D and better chance of seal with old olives, ~I wasn't suggesting you used ballafix valves I was replying to johnb80 :D I am seriously considering fitting a couple of ballofix valves as it would only add about
  2. Job consists of undoing 3 compression fittings, removing valve, replace with identical valve. But things always go wrong......
  3. Nik, I value your input, I really do! But I am doing this as a favour for a friend, it is a 22mm pipe and has a one meter head, so I don't think I will have the buttock churning experience you did even if it does go wrong! My only real concern is is there enough gas in the can to really, truly freeze the pipe with a plug of ice that will last 30 minutes or so as the packing quotes or is that a best case scenario? I really don't want to end up spending all day flushing and sorting out airlocks in someone else's heating.
  4. They moved the CL unit to the bulkhead in 1997, so it won't be that. I would check the CL from the passenger door. Does it work on all but the drivers door? If so that would suggest a broken wire in the door gaiter.
  5. OK, I need to change a 3 port valve on 22mm pipes. Rather than drain down an aging CH system and risk air locks etc, I thought it a better idea to freeze the outlet pipes. The inlet is just above the pump and has a pump valve. So I would need to either: [*]Buy two suitable one-shot freezing kits at
  6. To be honest, fuel, a day off work and the ticket price for Alton Towers is just too rich for me! Anywhere where it costs nothing is good right now! Somewhere we can have a picnic/barbie and not worry too much about the kids playing.
  7. Just nice firm ones? I kept getting the BSOD on Tuesday night. The heatsink and fan had fallen off my Northbridge, one of the loops for the hooks had come off of the motherboard, solder and all....! I can laugh about it now....
  8. Oh lordy! Why 2?
  9. Works for me using Opera 8 and IE 7
  10. Happy Birthday Glen, your the (insert sycophantic drivel here)
  11. This can be considered as much an Alhambra/Sharan forum as Galaxy! There is no snobbery or elitism in here! My alarm goes off randomly, your not alone! The ultrasonic sensors are in the "B" pillars behind the driver and passenger front doors. Do you have a remote fob? If so pressing the lock/arm button once arms it, pressing it a second time immediately after the first time disarms the ultrasonics and that is the most likely culprit. A change of temperature can set them off!
  12. You won't be happy when your hubby is playing REM all the time......
  13. And the disk could have come out the tray in transit. So you can't necessarily blame the seller for that.
  14. And your point is?

All information is provided "As is" and no liability can be accepted arising for any loss or consequences suffered as a result of its use. One of the most common losses of power in a TDi Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra is a failed Mass Air Flow Meter (MAF). It's failure is often easy to diagnose by simply unplugging it and seeing if the engine runs any worse. If it is the same or better then it is a good bet that the MAF is past its useful life. Tools Required: 5MM Allen Key or 5MM Hex Socket Pair of medium sized Mole Grips Difficulty level: http://www.bigtrucker.co.uk/images/maf/tea.jpg Preparation: none Location on Vehicle: In the engine compartment at the left hand side when looking into the engine compartment. http://www.bigtrucker.co.uk/images/maf/001.jpg Procedure: Press down on the tab on the connector http://www.bigtrucker.co.uk/images/maf/002.jpg and pull the connector off of the MAF http://www.bigtrucker.co.uk/images/maf/003.jpg Using the mole grips adjusted so the jaws fit snuggly over the ends of the hose clip http://www.bigtrucker.co.uk/images/maf/004.jpg lock the handles of the grips and push the hose clip back up the induction hose http://www.bigtrucker.co.uk/images/maf/005.jpg Remove the mole grips If you want to make the job a little easier then you may wish to remove the top of the air filter housing. To do this, undo the three clips (one top, bottom and right hand side below the MAF) The top should then just up and lift off, pull off the vacuum pipe if fitted. http://www.bigtrucker.co.uk/images/maf/006.jpg Undo the two 5mm Cap Head Screws using a 5mm Allen Key or Hex Socket http://www.bigtrucker.co.uk/images/maf/007.jpg and pull the MAF off of the air-box making sure you don't lose the 'O' ring, pictured here correctly seated in the top of the Air Filter Housing http://www.bigtrucker.co.uk/images/maf/008.jpg The MAF removed http://www.bigtrucker.co.uk/images/maf/009.jpg Re-fitting is the reverse of the above, but make sure the pipes (induction & vacuum) are correctly replaced An easy job, about 20 - 30 minutes including time for just one cup of tea, so a one cup difficulty level!

It's failure is often easy to diagnose by simply unplugging it and seeing if the engine runs any worse. If it is the same or better then it is a good bet that the MAF is past its useful life. Replace the MAF connector That is really all there is to it. It should take about five minutes so only needs one cup of tea!
  18. You do realise if you don't get the 17.1 then your going to regret it from the word go!
  19. Assumption is the mother of all cock-ups. The "R" stands for "Radial" (as opposed to the now defunct 'cross-ply')
  20. I really do think that is you in your avatar.....
  21. All I noticed was BigJ and dipstick used repeatedly in the same sentence! :)
  22. I would not be too worried as the guy is a trader with good feedback so they buyer has protection in law. Just because it has been bought on eBay does not mean your consumer rights cease to exist.
  23. A bit old this! Still someone might know!
