  1. I have a DVD player plugged into the rear accessory socket permanently. If the DVD unit is in standby mode will this drain the battery over time ?? I suspect the answer is yes, so if the DVD player is switched off completely but left plugged in will this still use power from the socket ??? Anyone any experiences ??
  2. Its good that in-car DVD is now affordable to everyone no matter what type you get, it always looks good too when you overtake a car with in-car DVD playing in the back ! For around the
  3. Just got a great affordable in-car DVD system for the Gal, screens fit onto headrests and slimline DVD player slots into front seat back pocket. Very quick to set up and away you go on a quiet drive whilst the kids (upto 3 headphones) can watch a DVD on both screens or play one of the 25 simple games on the the other screen at the same time. Its a great way of entering the ICE without the big budget, plus the added security of not getting the things twoc-ed, it all goes into a neat bag included. All this for only

  5. At last, good service from a dealer, 4 days later car fixed with new drive shaft assembly fitted. Car even washed too. All covered by warranty, with not a penny to pay.......if only it was always like that........
  6. Sounds like its the drive shaft thats gone on it, dealers ordered a new 'shaft assembly' that I presume is the drive shaft assembly. Anyone any experience with this ?
  7. Thanks, I stayed with Gal throughout, and was then taken home from dealer by same truck.
  8. Driving back from Wharfedale the other day and suddenly the Gal started to vibrate violently. Thought initially it was a flat tyre, but no, so pulled over again and looked around and underneath, but nothing visible. So carried on and then crunching sound started in every gear, vibrating once more. So pulled into a pub car park and rang the AA, explained what the sound was and they said it was most likely the Drive Shaft or Gearbox so would relay Gal on truck to local dealer. Still awaiting dealer to get back to me with fault. Anyone else experienced this type of thing before ???? Have a warranty, hope it covers it......... :D How much ?? :(
  9. I've heard a lot on the forums regarding VAG COM, I know this to be the device for plugging in and faulting/reprogramming certain things, but just how easy is it to do it ? If you have a basic computer knowledge is it sufficient ? What about these codes that keep been mentioned, where do they come from and once plugged in is it user friendly software ? Where is the best and cheapest place to get one from. Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
  10. You managed to switch on the trip computer, how do you do that ? can it be done without VAG ?? I have the Ghia tdi 2001 model, and miss the trip option, would like to get it as an option if possible. If you do need a VAG then would it be possible to get a dealer to do it ??
  11. What type of oil do you use, either in your own DIY servicing, or the garage you have your car serviced at, i.e. the oil the garage claims they use. Only the VW TDI diesel engines please. Please take the Ford Galaxy oil option as including the Alhambra and the Sharan too.
  12. When this happened to mine it was the immobiliser. Try your master key in it, to make sure its not this problem. My problem was a missing microchip in the transponder key.
  13. I tried stopping the 'auto window up' with a banana, it cut it in half, then I tried an apple and it split the skin but then reversed all the way down, without going any further......hope this helps :D .........i must get a life !! :(
  14. Mine too sits behind the radio, plenty of space back there, which is also handy for the phone suppression lead that plugs into the back of most Ford head units for muting the radio/CD etc when you receive or make a call.
  15. Its fairly normal on any cold start diesel thats covered a few miles......mine smokes at start up only, followed by the usual bad smell.......I wonder if any of these additives like STP etc would do it any good ? Anyone ever tried them, or should we stear clear of them incase they have a knock on effect to engine wear etc. :(
  16. Global closure of all windows can be achieved by turning the key manually in the door lock on the newer Galaxys, as most of us know. However, why can't it be achieved by pressing the key fob remotely, surely this was the way it was designed originally. My question is, can it be done by reprogramming it somehow, or anyone know of a sneak way around the system to get the remote fob to work for closing all the windows if open ??? Is it maybe a Ford safety issue with kids hanging out of the windows whilst remotely closing them ?
  17. Thanks for the reassurance, I'll have to take more care in future......the red notice in the filler flap that says 'DIESEL' is a bit of a give away :D
  18. I had a dizzy moment yesterday and put just over 2 litres of unleaded petrol in my Tdi  I was in a hurry so told the attendant and then reversed to fill the remainder with diesel........my thought was that because there was so little unleaded in relation to almost 62 litres of diesel it would dilute the unleaded to almost nothing. Am I correct in thinking this.........or should I have got the whole system drained. It seems OK at the moment, no coughing or spluttering at all.....any advice would help.......theres not a lot I can do with it now anyway but just wondered if anyone else had done this before with what results. :( I blame it on my flu bug !!
  19. The dash on my Galaxy can only be described as 'loose'. It knocks on the bulk head (between engine and passenger compartment) when going over bumps, so I pushed/pulled it manually and there is movement in it causing the knocking. It appears to be the whole dash ! Are there any screws/bolts that join the dash to the frame that can be tightened ? and if so how do I get to them, as it appears there is no access.....??? <_< I found that shoving a couple of pieces of 2cm wide plastic down the gap between the windscreen and the dash it stops, as this puts tension on the dashboard and creates a small gap, and stops the movement and therefore the knocking, but looking for a better solution ! <_<
  20. Thanks for that, simple when you know how :D
  21. I am sure this topic has been covered before, however I can't find it, how do I get rid of the service interval reminder on my 01 Galaxy (text one) ?? I service it myself so do not have the need for the reminder. Is there an easy way or is it a trip to the local Fraud dealer?
  22. Mr T, where did you get these and how easy was it to do the chrome bits ? I was thinking of getting some for mine, did you go to Ford ? and do the old panels come off easily ?? Is it a one spanner job (Haynes equivalent !) ?
  23. Bought a recent additional remote key fob from ebay for
  24. DIY.............the only reliable option unfortunately......... :)
