  1. Thanks for the ideas as to what it can be Scorpio, I tried the heater on full and windows open and it didn't seem to make much difference to the time it takes to cool, the radiator is getting very hot, its been fine since remapping over a year ago, never had any issues with it since, how do I check to see if the radiator air flow is blocked ? I now have it booked in with main dealer for a
  2. Thanks Scorpio, its now really doing my head in. Got the caravan and can't use it, I took it out on my own today just in case it overheated and the wife got stressed, and low and behold it did exactly as before, fortunately on my own so waited for it to cool down each time. I don't blame you for suggesting the water pump as that was exactly what the garage thought it was too and the thermostat. Everything appears to be doing exactly what it is supposed to do. The header tank does not flood before it overheats, there doesn't appear to be any kinks in the pipes, the aux heater is not running, fuel consumption is average for pulling a caravan and 40+ when not pulling it, the fans are coming on as they should etc, I along with the garage are totally puzzled now. Not sure how to check for blockage in cooling system. Should the header tank be filling and leaking when the overheating occurs ? If it was the head gasket wouldn't it be overheating all the time and not just under load ? I have not left it running when overheating 130+ (over red line), then cools to 90 after about 5 minutes.
  3. ARRRRHHHHHHH, being out with caravan and Gal still overheating, its had a new thermostat and water pump. The coolant expansion tank is now filling to the top and then leaking out (message appears STOP, coolant), any ideas ? Should the expansion tank be filling right up ? and should it be leaking out to prevent over pressure ? Anyone, please, HELP !! I've had enough now !
  4. I've not yet tackled the awning that came with my caravan, I notice you have one attached, how easy is it to put up and how long does it take you ? I don't want the embarassment on site of trying to sort it out !
  5. Well, fingers crossed, collected car today, the caravan will be having a trip out tomorrow for a full engine load test run to see if it still overheats. One thing I am still not sure about is the coolant expansion tank, it doesn't show any water until the cap is removed then it goes up to the perfect level of MAX with a rush of air, is this normal ?
  6. This is our very first camping trip with 'new to us' caravan, hence the slightly off-balanced caravan, still got a few things to learn, it took the journey home for the rest of the shower water to drain away ! It took a couple staying in the plot next to us to give us a few pointers about unhitching and wooden blocks under the stabilisers on the grass ! ;) We are looking forward to many more caravanning trips in the very near future now that we're getting into the swing of it. :) Thats is when the Galaxys fixed..... :(
  7. Hi, yes I believe the amount spent so far will indeed be worth it for the future, the water pump and all coolant fluid and cam belt and tensioner have all been replaced for around
  8. Got a gas BBQ for home, so we will start taking that and as you mentioned hook it up through the caravan BBQ socket. Car being fixed this week hopefully, need to take it on a test run before loading the family in for a trip off, better Gal overheating with just me than the whole clan !
  9. OK, garage has managed to replace the water pump, they don't seem to think that there is anything wrong with it though, impellar still in place, its cost
  10. Not a lot of meat on a mouse ! If I hadn't had a after market warranty I would have become one of the ex-Galaxy owners, its just not that reliable and expensive to fix, but fortunately its bloody good when it is working properly.
  11. Gal in garage having water pump checked for impellar issues. Hopefully will be back towing within a week ! Only been away in caravan for 1 night and already missing it, we did Harrogate in North Yorks for a trial weekend, everyone very friendly and helpful, must remember to take the BBQ next time ! Its a very slow and relaxing pace of life caravanning.
  12. Thats excellent advice, you have described exactly what it was doing, as soon as I got over 50mph with caravan the temp gauge started to creep up, especially up hills, I will get the water pump checked tomorrow, is it a straight forward job to replace it, does all the coolant need draining etc first. Thanks.
  13. Well, the car is covered by warranty, so hopefully if it is something expensive it will be covered, do you think it could be the water pump, as the expansion tank is often showing no water but there doesn't appear to be a leak ?
  14. Well, after starting this post and getting the tow bar fitted and buying the caravan and looking forward to a trip off somewhere, the last thing on my mind was problems with the Gal: http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...c=13206&hl=
  15. Arhhhhhh, just been caravanning for the very first time, not had any issues with the Gal until I started towing yesterday. After about 10 miles of motorway cruising the temp gauge shot up to 130, and STOP flashed on and off with audible warning and CHECK COOLANT. I checked the level and it seemed ok, topped it up and continued on my way after it went back to temperature 90 level. Then happened again, anyone any ideas ?? Head gasket ? or maybe coolant problem ? Please HELP !
  16. Hi Paul, welcome to the forum, don't be put off by the 'lazy lag syndrome', a simple remedy, most answers to your problems will lie in this site.
  17. The tow hook is fitted and looks great, nice neat job, but the parking sensors still periodically pick up on the electrics connector, is there any way to switch one of them off, as I know which it will be, or can one be disconnected without affecting the others ?
  18. I've joined the Caravan Club on-line yesterday for
  19. Bugg#r ! What will I need to fit it in the standard DIN and a half slot ? A new surround and a new cage ??
  20. Great advice Grumpy thanks. I think the stabilisers are the manual type described in your 1st point, so will have a play. Tow hook fitter coming tomorrow so I will definately have a word about the gadget you mentioned regarding parking sensors. I have just done a HPI check on the caravan and there is outstanding finance on it (private seller), the seller didn't mention anything about it, so the whole sale might fall through now unless I can clear the oustanding debt directly myself and get a faxed letter stating no outstanding finance from the company, whilst he is here with the van. Then pay him the balance if any remaining. Is this the best way to do it ? I can't see any other option, as if I pay him in full and he states he will pay it off, he may not, and do a runner. It is also an offence to sell any type of vehicle with oustanding finance.
  21. Well, that radio that I pictured above, the Sony, do you think it is standard fit size (i.e. DIN +third) like a Ford 6000 radio ? or bigger ? I am worried now, I have got it off ebay and it may not fit !
  22. I dropped the idea of the eonon2626 because it is double DIN size, whereas the Galaxy is only DIN and a third size, so it would mean removing bits of trim above the climate control panel, and the unit would stand proud of the dash. There was always the option of cutting away the panel below the cup holders and doing away with them. So I've bid on the one above, looks better than the Ford radios and if the seller is to be believed it will actually fit straight into a standard Galaxy mk2 slot and hopefully have the same wiring, it does have multichanger controller. I am sure with a bit of butchering of the dash the eonon will fit beautifully.
  23. Ok, I've seen this will it fit ok, it states its from a 2003 Ford Galaxy ?
  24. Thanks for all the great advice, I have a mobile fitter coming out this week to fit a fixed one, hope it doesn't interfere too much with sensors, the caravan I am getting comes with a wheel clamp and hitch lock included, I have got an insurance quote of
  25. Well, we've been and left a deposit today, so we're in with the caravanners, another road hogger ! Just need a tow hook now, anyone any advice on choosing who to fit one and any tips on what to look out for ?
